The contact stated that he had purchased two tires from Walmart that were installed in the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle started wobbling. The contact stated that the failure occurred increasingly as he continued driving, causing him to pull to the side of the road. The vehicle was taken to Walmart, where it was inspected, and the contact was informed that the rear tires were out of round and the tread had separated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that he needed to drive to the nearest Goodyear dealer for the tire replacements; however, the nearest Goodyear was 100 miles away. The tires were not replaced. The contact was awaiting a call back from the manufacturer. The tire failure mileage was approximately 200. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
Air bag light IS on, we find a recall that IS open and active. Bright vehicle to yaklin for repair and they declined the repair because the part has been discontinued.
Jeep developed communication issues, dash displayed "no bus." one morning I started the jeep and went to shift to gear and the passenger air bag deployed. Took it up the road and back thinking I had a communication issue to diagnose, the drivers air bag deployed turning on my road. Seemed to happen when pressing the brake.i learned about the recall corrosion in air bag module may lead to inadvertent deployment. I dropped my vehicle off to nye dodge jeep RAM in oneida ny. Repair order was made nov 14TH 2019. I was given a 1-800 number to call, placed 4 calls before my case was escalated correctly. Made numerous calls to the 800 number and eventually on 12/5 maybe 12/6 an inspector came and inspected my vehicle. With basically no progress after a month and a half I picked up my vehicle. With a couple more calls to the 800 number and being told were "on hold" with chryslers end my vehicle IS still not fixed and the 800 number calls all end with well leave a message for whoever IS in charge with your case to call you, they have yet to call going on 3 weeks. I was told the airbags are not available from chrysler. Looking for a solution or to at least get the module installed in the right location and ill source airbags. It has been an absolutely ridiculous amount of time to not have any answers and my recall not completed.

Nothing I tried to call dealer and they were not very helpful. I think they feel if they ignore people they won't have to fix our cars.
My name IS [xxx]....bought a 1998 jeep cherokee limited approx. 2001 from a private owner...from northboro ma.....mint condition...only 11,000 mi. ....owner told me he bought it for his wife so she could plow their quarter mile long driveway.....he installed a small plow assembly on jeep....when asked why he was selling he told me it wasn't enough truck to get the job done.....driveway had multiple sharp curves and a significant incline....i bought this for my wife to run local....groc, school, etc.....she loved it.....never once had it on the freeway.....i took it one day on the i-495....hit a dip where there was a bridge...going about 65....this vehicle started shaking so violently I thought it was going to literally fall apart around me.....very scary [xxx]....subsequently had the front end looked at.....found some loose [xxx]....solid....wife never had it on hwy....i took it again a yr later....same [xxx] thing....i thought maybe the previous owner did some damage installing the plow assembly.....sold it as-is with very specific concerns about the front end to the buyer......what do I do.....i buy a 2001 cherokee sport....my wife loved her jeep...."i want another one!"....ok honey...figured was a one time problem because of the plow assembly.....wrong....3 mos in.....im going down hwy....same exact [xxx] thing....like when the second plane hit the other tower on 9/11....not a coincidence....not 2 jeeps in a row....that's when I did a little research..."death wobble"......im lucky to be alive....you've got to do a recall on this before someone gets killed. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr
I think my jeep IS remotely bugged somehow, ABS light comes on and my brakes work, ABS light goes out and my brakes make noise and pedal goes down further like I have no brakes. Also, temperature gauge IS steady then suddenly it goes up and down. I have checked fluids, had brakes inspected (replaced pads and front rotors) I went to police said they had no way of testing for bugs.
It started with the lights turning off when I hit a bump. The whole jeep would go dark. instrument panel, overhead lights, driving lights, all of them! then after parking the jeep, day or night, the alarm system would go off all by itself. the door switches locking and unlocking while I was driving down the road. then there was the radio that would turn on and off by itself. then the windows decided to stop going up and down. when I would start the jeep the instrument panel gauges wouldn't move, turn on. So, I would turn off the jeep and restart it. Some of the gauges, would turn on but others, would not, like the fuel tank gage, speedometer gage. during the summer months, there would be a puddle of water on the passenger side floor board. I still to this day don't know what caused it to happen every day and each time it was turned on. then there IS the transmission and rear end that started having problems. It started to slip out of gear and the rear end made a noise. I had all the oil levels checked out, but still it would happen. I do recall getting a flyer in the mail, regarding a recall, but it also said that the dealer, did not have the parts to fix the problem. why would you send out a flyer that you have no way of fixing because you can't get the part's? ! and are you even concerned about the worry you put me through? it became another reason to park the jeep. how could you do.this, to so many people? with all these strange things happening to the jeep, I had to do what was best for my safety, as well as, those who were on the road driving around me. I just couldn't live with myself, knowing that I could have cost someone or myself injury or death, by having the jeep on the road knowing it was having so many problems. it has now been close to three-years since the last time I drove it.
TL* the contact owns a 1998 jeep cherokee. While the vehicle was parked, all the doors became difficult to open. The contact had to apply force to the push button on the door handles in order to open the doors. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The ignition switch sticks, passenger door locks doors when opened and closed, passenger side window front and back will not go down all the time and sometimes they will.
Got in the vehicle to go to an appointment, and the airbag warning light was illuminated. Also, I no longer have cruise control, or the use of the horn. I was told by chrysler that there may be a future recall on the clockspring mechanism that controls these items. I was also told that while it IS highly unlikely, there IS a chance that the airbag could inadvertently be deployed for no reason. I am still waiting for a recall to begin. The part to repair the car IS over $250. I am still driving the car as I am on social security and can't afford the parts. My hope IS that I don't have a takata airbag on top of it all!! *tr
At approximately 55mph vehicle began what has been described by other jeep owners as "death wobble', a violent shaking in the front end that only goes away after slowing down. I don't recall hitting any heavy bumps, just the usual road cracks common on highways in southern oregon. After the first occurance, every time the vehicle reaches approx. 55Mph the shaking reoccurs.i have been told that this IS caused by poorly designed components in the original design of the cherokee (xj) model as well as other jeep models using the same front suspension design. My mechanic told me this IS very common, and that chrysler should have addressed this long ago, but did not. When will they finally address this issue?
My jeep IS losing speed and stalling .i have already replaced senors as well spark plugs wires and rotor cap button etc it IS stillstalling out. *tr
Bought this vehicle not knowing of the gas tank design problem and now im stuck with a vehicle that I don't dare to drive or sell. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1998 jeep cherokee. The vehicle was equipped with a plastic fuel tank located near the rear bumper. A trailer hitch had not been installed by the manufacturer. The manufacturer was not notified. The contact had not experienced a failure.
TL* the contact owns a 1998 jeep cherokee. While driving approximately 10 mph, there was a sudden decrease in engine rpms and all of the gauges registered at zero. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 300,000. updated 4/13/15*cn the bcm was replaced. However, the problem continued. Updated 04/21/15*jb
The right side of the jeep hit a small bump in the road and the entire front of the car began to oscillate at high speed. the only way to make it stop was to slow down on the highway during traffic. I had to slow down to approximately 30 miles per hour. after the oscillation stopped we began travelling again and got up to 55 mph again. a small bump in the road was hit and same situation occurred. this vehicle has a completely stock suspension system and we've only owned it for approximately 2 years. *js
I was on my way to work headed south on I-69 in fort wayne, indiana. I had just passed the indiana state road 14 underpass when a semi truck tire and rim (the whole thing) came off a semi truck and rolled across three lanes of traffic where my jeep hit it. it hit the front passenger side of my jeep. directly in the front but the right half of the bumper/front end. the tire then went under my car where it forced me to slide in to the cement median in the middle of the highway hitting my driver side front bumper at about 35 miles an hour or so. my airbags did not deploy. *tr
Air bag light comes on and all gauges stop working-- pressing hard on the face of the gauge cluster or smacking the top of the dash restores everything.. Owned it for 4 years and previous owner said they experienced it before me.. Now it has started a new additional problem, "check gauges" light comes on and volt meter pegs to the right at 19 volts. Smacking doesn't help this, it just goes away in a few miles... *tr
Local jeep dealer key - moline, il) further damaged my vehicle while attempting to install safety recall n45/nhtsa 13v-252. The rear bumper attaching studs were twisted of the frame while preparing to install the (recall required) tow hitch to improve protection of fuel tank from a rear end collision. The safety of my vehicle has been further degraded - key dealership has contacted chrysler - however, no solution has been presented to me to date. Meanwhile, I do not feel safe transporting my family in such an unsafe vehicle with a loose and rattling bumper! *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
ODI has completed an extensive analysis of rear crash fuel tank system integrity data for the subject Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Liberty vehicles (SVs).As of June 2013, ODI knew of 56 post-collision fatal fires, 28 non-fatal fires, and 6 fuel leak incidents (totaling 90 incidents, 75 fatalities and 58 injuries) involving the SVs.Based on this analysis, ODI issued a Recall Request Letter (RRL) on June 3, 2013 requesting that Chrysler recall the Grand Cherokee and Liberty vehicles due to the rate of fatal, non-fatal fire, and fuel leak incidents when compared to peer vehicles (compact and medium SUVs) built during the same time period. In the RRL, ODI described how the location of the aft-mounted fuel tank made the SVs vulnerable to rear impact crash fuel tank failures.During the analysis, besides the high speed/high severity crashes present in both the SV and peer vehicles, ODI observed a significant number of low and moderate speed rear impact crash related fires and leaks, particularly in the Liberty. The data also demonstrated that SVs originally equipped with towing hitch receivers (trailer hitches) appeared to be under-represented in rear-impact related fuel tank failures. In the RRL, ODI requested that Chrysler provide its response by June 18, 2013, otherwise NHTSA might proceed to an Initial Decision that the SVs contain a safety-related defect.Chrysler responded to the RRL on June 4, 2013 and vigorously disputed the tentative findings of the RRL.Among other things, Chrysler argued that the SVs had an overall safety record superior to their peers, met or exceeded all applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS) and only experienced fires in severe high energy rear impacts.Nonetheless, while continuing to maintain that the SVs did not contain a safety-related defect, Chrysler proposed a recall (13V-252) of approximately 2.5M (1.6M currently registered) model year (MY) 1993 - 1998 Grand Cherokee (ZJ) and MY 2002-2007 Liberty (KJ) vehicles on June 18, 2013.The recall remedy submitted by Chrysler would employ a hitch receiver assembly consisting of a steel cross-member behind the fuel tank with forward-projecting arms bolted to the frame rails on either side of the fuel tank. For the MY 1999 - 2004 Grand Cherokee, Chrysler indicated it would conduct a customer satisfaction campaign and inspect vehicles equipped with aftermarket tow hitch receivers, and if necessary, replace any such hitch receivers whose conditionmay increase the risk of fuel system failure in rear crashes.Examination of the available data established that the MY 1999 - 2004 Grand Cherokee did not pose the same magnitude of safety risk as the MY 1993 - 1998 Grand Cherokee and MY 2002-2007 Liberty, particularly in low and moderate speed rear impacts.Because the agency has concluded that the vehicles do not present an unreasonable risk to safety, ODI is closing its investigation of the MY 1999 - 2004 Grand Cherokee.Although it was not within the scope of the Petition initiating this investigation or the Preliminary Evaluation preceding this EA, ODI also examined the performance of the MY 1993 - 2001 Cherokee as part of this investigation.NHTSA's assessment of the available data for the Cherokee did not establish an unreasonable risk in comparison to peer vehicles.ODI does not approve proposed defect remedies. While offering to install hitch receiver assemblies on the MY 1993-1998 Grand Cherokees and 2002-2007 Liberty, Chrysler did not, in ODI's view, provide enough evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed remedy in rear impacts. The Complete Summary for this Closing Resume (EA12-005) can be seen by
