Started to leave for a trip with our 2010 Keystone Cougar 27ft 5th Wheel, got about a block away and the trailer overhang portion was started to come down on the back of our truck so drove back home and unhooked the trailer. Discovered that we have a flex frame issue, broken welds in the overhang portion. Total failure of the pin box while towing! Posed significant road hazard if we had continued driving. The whole overhang portion would have fallen on top of our truck and caused a wreck. Opened a case file with Keystone about the upper deck frame flex failure. They did not offer any assistance due to the age of the trailer. Adam Hahn with NW Bearing & Brake Mobil RV in Tucson was able to diagnose the problem for us. The 5th wheel can no longer be towed now.
We had three blow outs on our trailer tires during a trip this fall. the three blow outs occurred on three different dates. the tires are cooper omni st 235/80r16. the first blow out occurred 8/21/2015 on I-470 just past the denver airport. this blow out caused damage to the trailer on the passenger side of the vehicle. the second blow out occurred somewhere northeast of santa fe, nm on I-25. this blow out was on the driver's side of the vehicle. this blow out also caused damage to the trailer. the third blow out occurred approximately one mile west of the arkansas border on highway 412. again, this caused damage to the passenger side of the trailer. these tires had less than 7,000 miles on them. the tires were purchased in late december 2012.
