Unlatched doors may open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for any issues with the KV system, disabling the KV mechanisms if necessary, and update the KV Latch software, free of charge. The recall began November 30, 2020. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-452-4827. Land Rover's number for this recall is N476.
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Ranger Rover and 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles. Due to a problem with the Keyless Vehicle Latching System (KV Latch), the doors may appear to be closed but may be unlatched.

The unlatched door may open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for any issues with the KV system, disabling the KV mechanisms if necessary, and update the KV Latch software, free of charge. The recall began July 18, 2019. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N335. Note: Vehicles in this recall were previously recalled under recall number 15V-385 and need to be remedied again.

Risk
If a hole is worn into the brake vacuum hose, a complete loss of braking assistance could occur, lengthening the distance required to stop the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake vacuum hose and correctly route it, as necessary, free of charge. Any brake vacuum hose that is damaged will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began March 2, 2015. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is P052.
Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Range Rover vehicles. In the affected vehicles, due to insufficient clearance, the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) connector located in the driver and front passenger side seat of the vehicle may become disconnected.
Risk and remedy
Risk
If the connector becomes disconnected, the driver and/or passenger seat side air bag may not function. In the event of a crash necessitating side air bag deployment, the seat occupant is at an increased risk of injury.
Remedy
Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will modify the area around the connector to prevent it from becoming disconnected, free of charge. The recall began on January 16, 2014. Customers may contact Land Rover at 1-800-637-6837, Option 9. Land Rover's number for this recall is P037.

Fuel tanks shields have rotted. I have researched this and it appears that the reason this problem occurs is because of a process called galvanic corrosion. The fuel tank shield is bolted onto an aluminum heat shield, and the pairing of these two different metals accelerates the corrosion. Land Rover has acknowledged this problem and it’s given priority due to the fact that this is a safety issue being that these shields are also responsible for holding the tanks in place.

The metal gas tank shroud (cover) on the bottom of the car is completed rotted away and there is no longer anything protecting the gas tank from rupture. This was brought to my attention by an automotive service center as well as my own visual inspection. My understanding this shroud not only protects the tank but also helps support it to the car.

Door latch is not locking door in place, yes it is available for inspection. Our safety is at risk due to the door will always be open and it is unlatched if driven. There is a potential hazard to other vehicles on streets and the highway due to this problem. Contacted dealer in San Antonio Texas to report the problem they indicated no recalls and they did not seem interested in the matter. The problem has not been confirmed by the dealer. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer or others. No warning or indication of a problem prior to the failure.

Driving on phoenix city street 51ST avenue going south at 5:00 pm in afternoon. failure of a engine/cooling system outlet pipe led to expulsion of all coolant, overheating of the engine to its shutdown within three minutes, the engine got so hot it ruptured a fuel line over the engine spraying the engine compartment with gasoline. unaware of the fuel leak I attempted to re start the vehicle to move it into a nearby parking lot. I eventually restarted it and I limped it into the parking lot where it continued to leak fuel. the engine was blown from the overheating and requires a complete rebuild or replacement at $15K to $35K in cost. the landrover service director robert lyler, confirmed that failure of the outlet pipe IS common. it occurs randomly and without notice or any signs of fatigue or wear. It's failure IS always a massive rupture, never just a leak or small spray. I received only a 5 second warning that the coolant was low. no other warning lights appeared and the temperature guage never showed the high temperature or overheating. my family and I are lucky that the engine did not catch fire and the fire follow the fuel line to the gas tank ending in an explosion. the vehicle IS now at the landrover north scottsdale dealership. it has not been repaired. the extended warranty company refused to pay saying that the part was a wear and tear/maintenance item and I have filed a claim with land rover corporate but have received no response as of this claim. please see attached document for a more detailed description of the incident.

Land rover part # knb 500023, listed as knb 500080 in the range rover kit accessory booklet IS for a tow hitch, that has a high failure rate. Filed case with land rover and they refuse to correct part under their land rover protection plan in force. The unique part male end IS inserted into a female integrated part of the chassi and together forms a 2" x 2" class III capable of towning 77016 # with a tongue weight of 550# as imprinted or forged on the land rover part. there are cases on record in other countries that there IS a high degree of failure rate when the vehicle IS towing trailers according to the manufacture specification. So report that the locking system , does not latch full and reports of these 5# part will fall off while the vehicle IS in motion. I have had two failure on towing and consider this a highway safety issue subject to immediate recall.

Aug 3, 2015 car dial shifter put in park, stopped on my 10% grade driveway. Car was on! Left to check mail box with door open, noticed car was moving very slow. Went back to car tried to reach brake, leg was caught in car and speed picked up evidently in reverse, fell on back, car door rolled over me with legs over head. Snapped 5 hamstring tendons, 2 avulsion fractures. I had reported on this site. Never heard back. Now jeep has a recall on the same type of computerized gear shifter. On consumer affairs there IS another rangerover evoque reported going into reverse (before mine did)when in park with running and door open. Driver went back to get car and it was up street in reverse against mailbox.

Bought pre owner range rover sport from a maserati of daytona (beach, fl) on 5/6/16 , on test drive with sales person noted poor brakes and shimmy at 65mph. Requesting tech inspection report and noted on"we owe you" dealer form brake issue. On 5/7 brought rrs back to dealer and complained. Gm said cant help! on 5/9/16 meet with service person robert. He furnished ro # docs373198 dated 5/6 showing pre sale inspection and 7 jobs performed. Oil to lr specs. Ok; however, 4 wheel alighnment not to lr specs; new front and reear pads and notation" rotors machined. Lr doesnt permit machining of rotors, must be replaced. on 5/1816 inspected by land rover of orlando , fl; brakes failed due to warping and had to have 4 rotors replaced. $1315 cost not under lr 4 years warrantee; but maserati of dayton gave 60day/3000 miles and only 300 miles driven to fl lr. . on 5/7/16 send repair facility certified mail complaining on brakes; on 5/25/16 drove car to ny lr of huntington, due to wife having appointment in cancer hiospital in nyc. 5/25/16 2ND lr dealer reinspected rrs and also found rotors warped. contated jlr and finally got lr specs on maximum run out (test for warped rotors) lr spec .002-005 maximiun. Actual on 5/18/16 measured at .006. Warped rotor cased irratic braking and shimmoing/ judder at 65mph braking and with new pads not braking properly and for safety, fade occurring. filed complaint with florida (state of sale) repair facility enforement and mediation center case # 1605-197576 against daytona dodge fl reg # mv-01534 repair facility and send copies of all original ro by seller dealer and two lr dealers. Car not usable in ny, due to vibration and unsafe braking. sent certified mail , gm letter asking repair facility to pay under 60 day/3000 warrantee to lr of hungton, ny for repairs exceeding $1700 or so. florida case manager has 30 days.

A diagnostic I obtained found a constant 12 volt draw on the battery more reasonably explaining why the 3 batteries were drained dead... Dealer had me using a "trickle charge" plugging into an outdoor electric outlet each night which only delayed the inevitable dead battery. I attempted to lemon law unsuccessfully under nys law... TL* the contact was a body shop owner and was doing front end repairs on a 2013 land rover range rover. The contact stated that the vehicle was traveling 5 mph in a driveway at the time of the incident. The contact stated that the vehicle had severe damage for a very minor accident. The contact stated that the manufacturer did not have the part for the contact to order. The minor incident caused the front end driver side shock tower to break away from the vehicle. The contact stated that the way the front end was made, the damage should have been a minimum of $2,500 instead of $50,000. The manufacturer stated that they did not have a repair for most of the damage the vehicle suffered from the incident. The failure mileage was unknown.

It could have hit kids that are usually in the area. lr/rr looked at it for two weeks then told me I must have left it in reverse and got out of the SUV somehow before it moved. They were not going to do anything about it. When I got in the SUV after it hit the mailbox it was still in park. long story short IS lr/rr IS doing nothing for us. Now the body shop IS telling us the repair parts that I have to pay for will take up to one year to get in. We have been over 60 days and still they have no eta for the parts. What a joke for a company of this size. My wife will never agree to drive this SUV again with this issue. Never buy a rr/lr. *tr

The new generation 2013 range rover, released in december 2012, does not have adequate windshield washer spray nozzles. they are unable to apply washer fluid to clear an obstructed windshield at any traveling speed. this creates a dangerous driving condition during any winter driving which will lead to accidents. land rover corporate offices are unwilling / unable to address this design flaw in any manner. they would only "refer this design complaint" to their corporate design engineering in solihull, england.

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant…
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.

On May 24, 2019, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (JLR) submitted two Part 573 letters to NHTSA describing door latch defects that could result in doors opening while driving in certain model year (MY) 2013-2016 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with JLR?s Unilatch Keyless Vehicle (KV) entry system.Recall 19V-392 (JLR Recall N335) describes a KV lever binding defect in approximately 65,385 MY 2013-2016 Range Rover and MY 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles built between May 9, 2012 and March 5, 2015. Moisture intrusion may result in KV motor bearing corrosion, which may prevent the KV lever from returning to the home position and prevent the latch pawl from properly engaging the latch claw. Vehicles recalled under 19V-392 will be checked for a pre-existing error state and mechanically disabled if an error is detected. If no error is detected, the vehicles will receive a software update that will disable the KV entry function on the vehicle.Recall 19V-390 (JLR Recall N336) describes a defect in the KV latching system of left-side doors in approximately 28,671 MY 2016 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles built between October 1, 2015 and May 27, 2016. A spring in the KV latching system may jam between the outside transmission lever and chamfer bush, preventing the latch assembly from returning to its correct position and fully latching the door. Vehicles recalled under 19V-390 will have the left-side latch assemblies replaced with assemblies that meet the engineering specification.ODI?s analysis of consumer complaints and field reports identified a total of 161 latch failures in the subject vehicles, including 57 involving doors opening with the vehicle in motion. The analysis found that 157 of the latch complaints and 56 of the door opening in motion incidents involve vehicles and latch assemblies covered under Recalls 19V-390 and 19V-392. On June 11, 2015, Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA describing a defect condition in the electronically controlled door latch systems of approximately 65,372 model year (MY) 2013-2016 Range Rover and MY 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport that may result in incidents of door opening while driving (NHTSA Recall No. 15V-385, JLR Recall P068).On August 4, 2017, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ17-005 to investigate claims of doors failing to latch and/or inadvertently opening while driving (latch malfunctions) on MY 2013-2016 Range Rover and MY 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles that had received the remedy for 15V-385 or were built after the recall remedy had been implemented in production (the subject vehicles). ODI has received 5 unique reports (VOQs) related to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. All five VOQs allege experiencing at least one incident of a door opening inadvertently while the vehicle was in motion and were repaired by replacing the malfunctioning latch assembly. One minor injury was reported where the consumer did not seek medical care.ODI's analysis of information provided by JLR in response to the Information Request (IR) letter for RQ17-005 identified 43 additional complaints and field reports related to door latch malfunctions in the subject vehicles, including 14 additional allegations that a door opened while the vehicle was in motion. In addition, ODI's analysis of JLR warranty claim data provided in the IR response identified an additional 564 vehicles that received latch replacements to address customer concerns with latch malfunctions, including 72 additional incidents of doors opening while in motion based on ODI's analysis of customer concern narratives.ODI has upgraded this investigation to an Engineering Analysis (EA18-004) to further assess the recall remedy, scope, and frequency.
