If the driver brakes prior to a crash, the ELR will not lock at the correct g-force level, increasing the risk of injury.

Safety is at risk if leakage of fuel becomes evident. I have only casually discussed recall notices with my local parts department. No warning lights at this time. The subject vehicle is a 2016 Range Rover and is my daily driver. The vehicle has a carbon steel fuel tank cradle (P/N - LR071011) that has a common failure of the steel cradle that is the only component that holds the fuel tank in place. When the fuel tank cradle corrosion is significant the fuel tank is no longer secured to the vehicle body and the fuel tank can otherwise shift or drop away from the vehicle. The fuel tank cradle on my vehicle is completely corroded through and missing most of the structure necessary to hold the fuel tank in place (see pictures attached). I can physically move the fuel tank by hand and have now used ratchet straps to temporarily hold the fuel tank in place. Land Rover knows this issue is a serious safety concern but has provided no recall to remedy the problem. The dealer wants more than $3500 to replace the fuel cradle. I believe this repair should be provided on a expedited basis by Land Rover free of charge to the vehicle owner. Component Failed & Availability: The high-pressure fuel system and the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) have failed. The vehicle is currently available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The vehicle experiences severe heat-soak depressurization, causing unpredictable engine stalling, sudden loss of power, and violent pressure lag during hot starts and acceleration. This creates a severe crash hazard when attempting to enter or maneuver in traffic. Simultaneously, the primary airbag/restraint matrix is faulted, meaning occupants are unprotected if an accident occurs due to the stalling. Warning Lamps & Symptoms: The Check Engine Light is illuminated, actively displaying DTC P00C6-00 (Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low - Engine Cranking Bank 1). The SRS warning light is also continuously illuminated.

On July 27, 2026, while driving westbound on SR-62, the vehicle unexpectedly moved laterally and collided with the left-rear area of a commercial tractor-trailer. In the days before the crash, I recall hearing a knocking noise from the front and experiencing the vehicle pulling, but I did not understand these as signs of a safety defect. After the crash, the right-front upper suspension/steering-knuckle connection was catastrophically separated and displaced, the wheel and hub were out of their normal position, and the vehicle was not drivable. Photographs and videos preserve the post-crash condition. The vehicle was subject to an unrepaired JLR D041/NHTSA 25V-514 safety recall for cracking of the front suspension upper knuckle joint. The recalled defect can cause the upper suspension arm to detach, compromise vehicle controllability, and increase the risk of a crash. The same failure mechanism is under NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA26003. The police report attributed the vehicle’s movement toward the adjacent lane to an unsafe lane change. However, no component-level mechanical inspection was performed, and the recalled steering-knuckle condition was not evaluated. I did not intentionally initiate a lane change. The vehicle’s observed trajectory is consistent with, but does not by itself prove, a sudden loss of directional control caused by a suspension or steering failure. An independent collision-repair assessment documents major right-front suspension, steering, wheel, cooling-system, and possible structural damage requiring computerized measurement and further inspection. The vehicle, failed components, and original photographs and videos have been preserved and are available for inspection. I experienced persistent neck soreness and stiffness after the impact; no ambulance transportation or medical treatment was requested at the scene.

The fuel tank shield is bolted onto an aluminum heat shield, and the pairing of these two different metals accelerates the corrosion. Land Rover has acknowledged this problem and it’s given priority due to the fact that this is a safety issue being that these shields are also responsible for holding the tanks in place.

I am filing a complaint regarding an unresolved safety recall on my Land Rover vehicle that has remained unrepaired for over seven (7) months. The recall was issued in or around August 2025. Since that time, I have repeatedly attempted to have the recall repair completed through an authorized dealership, Jaguar Land Rover Buffalo. On March 6, 2026, at approximately 1:25 PM, I contacted the dealership at (716) 831-3100 and spoke with a service representative. I was informed they are still “waiting on instructions from Land Rover” and are unable to perform the recall repair. As of today, more than seven months have passed since the recall notice, and no repair, interim remedy, or timeline has been provided. The dealership has not offered: •A temporary repair or mitigation •A loaner or alternative transportation •Any estimated timeframe for resolution This delay appears unreasonable under federal safety recall requirements and leaves a known safety defect uncorrected.afety Risk: The vehicle continues to be operated with an unresolved safety defect, increasing the risk of malfunction, accident, or injury.

The shield was the original part and functioned as a skid plate for the undercarriage; however, due to the corrosion, the fuel tank was no longer protected. The dealer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.

The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front suspension made an abnormal sound while driving over a bump in the roadway, while depressing the brake pedal, or while turning. The sound became louder over time. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. I am reporting a catastrophic engine failure involving a 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged 5.0L (VIN: [XXX] ) with approximately 88,000 miles. The vehicle experienced sudden engine failure due to a timing chain malfunction. Timing chain failure in this engine platform can result in immediate engine stall and total loss of propulsion without warning. A sudden engine stall while driving presents a serious safety risk, including loss of power steering assist, reduced braking performance, and increased risk of collision. The 5.0L AJ133 engine used in 2013–2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles has a documented pattern of premature timing chain and timing chain tensioner failures. Numerous owner reports indicate similar failures occurring before expected service life. In my case, the timing chain failure caused catastrophic internal engine damage requiring full engine replacement. The failure occurred despite proper maintenance and without prior warning indicators sufficient to prevent breakdown. This issue represents a potential safety defect because sudden engine failure can occur while the vehicle is in motion, creating hazardous driving conditions. I am requesting that NHTSA review this issue for potential investigation into premature timing chain failure in 2013–2017 Land Rover Range Rover 5.0L Supercharged vehicles. This era of Land Rover products used an inferior metal for the fuel tank shield where they corrode prematurely. The shield has almost completely disintegrated where it no longer will support the fuel tank. If the fuel tank falls, it will come in direct contact with the driveshaft and destroy the tank leading to a massive fuel leak and subsequent fire. My tank is currently held up with ratchet straps to avoid this happening. With the exception of the fuel tank shield, every other undercarriage component is rust/corrosion free.

Fuel tank on both sides is rusted through, tracking this shield holds the actual plastic tank in place and prevents the tank from coming lose. Pieces of the metal are literally rotted and rusted.

I am submitting this email as a formal safety defect notification regarding a front suspension knuckle cracking condition observed on my 2016 Range Rover Td6, which appears to directly correspond with Land Rover Recall D027. Attached are photographs of the passenger-side front suspension knuckle showing a distinct structural crack running vertically through the knuckle body at the upper control arm mounting point. The crack is continuous, visible from multiple perspectives, and is not consistent with a normal casting seam or cosmetic surface feature. According to the recall description, cracking in this location may result in loss of clamp load and potential separation of the suspension arm, posing a significant risk to vehicle control and occupant safety. The condition observed on my vehicle appears consistent with the failure mode identified by the manufacturer. I am submitting this information to: - Document a real-world instance of the suspected defect - Provide photographic evidence supporting the concern - Support evaluation of recall scope and remedy effectiveness This submission is provided in the interest of vehicle safety and defect reporting. The shifter knob retracts but the indicator light stays on “D” for several seconds and I can’t restart the car. It has happened when I’m in an intersection waiting to turn left and has stranded me in the middle of the intersection. I have reported this problem several times to the dealership but they say they can’t reproduce the issue and there are no advisories from Land Rover. I have a suspicion that Land Rover knows about the issue but has no fix for it

Good morning, Some time ago Land Rover Corporate made me aware of the recall about the suspension failure that can happen without warning, but to date there is no fix and apparently no parts to fix the problem so I am in need of guidance as to what to do, what recourse do I have should this fail as I am driving, etc? I do not have another vehicle to drive in the meantime and given the recall it makes me nervous as most of my driving is at highway speed as I work in multiple locations each day depending on project. What are my next steps to remedy?

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is upgrading its Preliminary Evaluation (PE25006) of front steering knuckle fractures on model year (MY) 2014 through 2017 Range Rover Sport vehicles to an Engineering Analysis. ODI opened PE25006 on June 27, 2025, after receiving 12 Vehicle Owner's Questionnaire (VOQ) reports of the front aluminum steering knuckles fracturing in these vehicles. The reports describe the fractures occurring at the joint where the steering knuckle attaches to the upper control arm ball joint in one or both steering knuckles. Fracture of the front suspension knuckle can lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm. Detachment of the upper suspension arm results in the driver’s inability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. ODI reviewed information supplied by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in response to Information Request letters as well as reviewed the data with JLR on numerous occasions. ODI further reviewed relevant data on a peer vehicle with a significantly similar steering knuckle design, the MY 2014 through 2017 Range Rover. Much of the information is contradictory and requires a deeper analysis that is available in an Engineering Analysis. On August 5, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) filed safety recall 25V514. This recall covers certain MY 2014 and all MY 2015-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The remedy for recall 25V514 addresses knuckles with and without a visible fracture. Knuckles that have developed a visible fracture will be replaced with a new knuckle of a substantially similar design. Knuckles with no fracture visibly present will have a brace attached to the upper portion of the front steering knuckle. JLR states that the purpose of the brace is to prevent the component from completely separating should a fracture develop. NHTSA continues to receive allegations of fractures occurring in the front steering knuckles of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. Two of the most recent VOQs received by ODI involve front steering knuckle fractures occurring on MY 2020 and MY 2021 Range Rover L405 vehicles. ODI will continue to investigate the component design and assess the potential safety risk as part of this Engineering Analysis and evaluate the recall remedies for Recall 25V514. Further, the scope of this Engineering Analysis will be expanded to include MY 2018-2022 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles as they have a substantially similar component design. From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.

On May 24, 2019, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (JLR) submitted two Part 573 letters to NHTSA describing door latch defects that could result in doors opening while driving in certain model year (MY) 2013-2016 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles equipped with JLR?s Unilatch Keyless Vehicle (KV) entry system.Recall 19V-392 (JLR Recall N335) describes a KV lever binding defect in approximately 65,385 MY 2013-2016 Range Rover and MY 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles built between May 9, 2012 and March 5, 2015. Moisture intrusion may result in KV motor bearing corrosion, which may prevent the KV lever from returning to the home position and prevent the latch pawl from properly engaging the latch claw. Vehicles recalled under 19V-392 will be checked for a pre-existing error state and mechanically disabled if an error is detected. If no error is detected, the vehicles will receive a software update that will disable the KV entry function on the vehicle.Recall 19V-390 (JLR Recall N336) describes a defect in the KV latching system of left-side doors in approximately 28,671 MY 2016 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles built between October 1, 2015 and May 27, 2016. A spring in the KV latching system may jam between the outside transmission lever and chamfer bush, preventing the latch assembly from returning to its correct position and fully latching the door. Vehicles recalled under 19V-390 will have the left-side latch assemblies replaced with assemblies that meet the engineering specification.ODI?s analysis of consumer complaints and field reports identified a total of 161 latch failures in the subject vehicles, including 57 involving doors opening with the vehicle in motion. The analysis found that 157 of the latch complaints and 56 of the door opening in motion incidents involve vehicles and latch assemblies covered under Recalls 19V-390 and 19V-392. On June 11, 2015, Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA describing a defect condition in the electronically controlled door latch systems of approximately 65,372 model year (MY) 2013-2016 Range Rover and MY 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport that may result in incidents of door opening while driving (NHTSA Recall No. 15V-385, JLR Recall P068).On August 4, 2017, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Recall Query RQ17-005 to investigate claims of doors failing to latch and/or inadvertently opening while driving (latch malfunctions) on MY 2013-2016 Range Rover and MY 2014-2016 Range Rover Sport vehicles that had received the remedy for 15V-385 or were built after the recall remedy had been implemented in production (the subject vehicles). ODI has received 5 unique reports (VOQs) related to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles. All five VOQs allege experiencing at least one incident of a door opening inadvertently while the vehicle was in motion and were repaired by replacing the malfunctioning latch assembly. One minor injury was reported where the consumer did not seek medical care.ODI's analysis of information provided by JLR in response to the Information Request (IR) letter for RQ17-005 identified 43 additional complaints and field reports related to door latch malfunctions in the subject vehicles, including 14 additional allegations that a door opened while the vehicle was in motion. In addition, ODI's analysis of JLR warranty claim data provided in the IR response identified an additional 564 vehicles that received latch replacements to address customer concerns with latch malfunctions, including 72 additional incidents of doors opening while in motion based on ODI's analysis of customer concern narratives.ODI has upgraded this investigation to an Engineering Analysis (EA18-004) to further assess the recall remedy, scope, and frequency.
