A rearview camera image that does not display while in reverse decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the rearview camera and add a new seal or replace the camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed to Range Rover owners March 4, 2024. Interim notification letters were mailed to Range Rover Sport owners March 7, 2024. Range Rover Sport owners will receive a second notice once remedy parts become available. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is N778.

Sun roof drains failed flooding the car and destroying electronics in the passenger wheel well. This is a problem that happens with every single L405 ever produced and the manufactures answer for it is a complete replacement of the sunroof and insert. The cost of the repair will mechanically total a vehicle that's as little as five years old. The actual solution is 3.5 hours of labor and less than $100 of parts but its not acknowledged by Land Rover simply because every L405 in existence will eventually have this exact failure that is due to a poor design with dissimilar metals in a wet environment creating electrical current and causing rapid deterioration of the less noble metal (Drain Tubes). The first module to get destroyed is the audio amplifier located under the passenger seat. This part is constantly on Back Order due to the number of people experiencing this issue and is $1500. The labor to replace this item is going to triple the cost. All due to two small defective drains that they refuse to acknowledge are poorly designed.

I own a 2020 Land Rover, VIN [XXX], which is affected by NHTSA Safety Recall 26V-248 / Jaguar Land Rover Recall D126. I brought the vehicle to an authorized Land Rover dealership after the check-engine light illuminated. While the vehicle was at the dealership, I requested that the open D126 safety recall also be performed. The dealer informed me that they could not perform the recall software update because my 12-volt battery is “almost failing” and told me that I would first have to pay out of pocket to replace the battery. I am concerned about this because Recall 26V-248 specifically involves the vehicle’s DC-DC converter and insufficient electrical load balancing. According to the recall, a failure of the DC-DC converter can result in loss of 12-volt system charging and can ultimately cause loss of motive power and exterior lighting I did not bring the vehicle to the dealership because of a dead battery or because the vehicle would not start. I drove the vehicle to the dealership because the check-engine light had illuminated. The dealer is effectively requiring me to purchase a 12-volt battery before they will perform the open safety-recall remedy. I have asked for documentation showing the battery test results, the diagnostic trouble codes associated with the check-engine light, and the manufacturer procedure explaining why the existing battery prevents the dealer from performing Recall D126. I am concerned that the condition of the 12-volt battery could potentially be associated with the charging-system defect that is the subject of this recall. I do not believe I should be required to pay for a component potentially affected by the recalled charging-system condition simply in order to obtain the federally mandated recall remedy. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether Jaguar Land Rover and/or its authorized dealer may require an owner to purchase a replacement 12-volt battery as a condition of performing Recall 26V-248, particularly whe INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION

The mechanic determined that the hybrid battery needed to be replaced. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V248000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. **Component/System:** 48V Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle system, including the DC/DC converter subject to JLR recall D126, MHEV battery/Battery Energy Control Module, starter generator/alternator system, 12V charging system, telematics control module, and related vehicle communication/electrical modules. The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. **Description of Complaint:** My 2020 Land Rover Range Rover P400 MHEV, VIN [XXX], experienced serious electrical and high-voltage/MHEV system failures involving the 48V mild-hybrid system and DC/DC converter system. Before the original failure, the vehicle displayed the warning message **“High Voltage Shutdown Not Possible — System Live.”** The warning would appear on the instrument cluster while driving. The vehicle later displayed **“Stop Safely — Electrical Fault Detected.”** The vehicle then shut down while in operation, and steering assist was lost/steering became locked or extremely difficult to control. This created a serious safety risk because the vehicle lost power/drive functionality and steering assistance while being operated. The vehicle was taken to Jaguar Land Rover Parsippany for the D126 DC/DC converter recall/interim repair. The DC/DC converter is part of the 48V MHEV system and manages power transfer between the 48V and 12V electrical systems. After the D126-related repair, the vehicle would not start at pickup and had to be jump-started. The dealer later diagnosed a telematics control module issue/parasitic draw, but the vehicle continued to have electrical and high-voltage warnings. After the interim DC/DC repair, the **“High Voltage Shutdown Not Possible — System Live”** warning returned while driving. The malfunction indicator/check engine light also came on. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had stated that failure was experienced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

On March 11, 2026, the vehicle's DC/DC Converter failed completely without warning. It was towed to the Land Rover of Monmouth (NJ) where this failure was confirmed. The failure of the DC/DC converter resulted in the vehicle going completely "dead" while driving with my wife and children. There was no warning. Fortunately for my family and I, it occurred on a side street by my home and did not occur on a highway or other busy road. Had this occurred on a highway or busy road, this would have absolutely put our lives in danger. As noted, the failure of the DC/DC converter was confirmed by the Land Rover of Monmouth (NJ) authorized dealership (I have a video from the dealership stating and confirming the failure). There were zero warnings at the time it occurred; it just lost power and shut down. Based on my research after this incident, it appears to be a pervasive problem with Land Rover and while there appear to be active recalls for certain Land Rover models, inexplicably, there is no current recall for this particular model. My wife and I are very concerned that even if/when it is repaired, this will happen again. This is the primary vehicle my wife uses for transportation with our young children and I am extremely afraid of the risk that this poses to their lives. I've notified the dealership from where I purchased it and was directed to contact Land Rover USA. I have not heard back from Land Rover USA. This well-documented, pervasive defect puts lives at risk and is extremely dangerous. As an attorney, I find Land Rover's knowledge of this frequent and extensive issue -- while only having a limited recall and not providing any information to owners of other Land Rover vehicles -- is a reckless disregard for the safety of others and creates an unreasonable risk of harm to others, like my family.

I am filing this complaint regarding my 2020 Range Rover Full Size Plug-In Hybrid, which has been inoperable for over three months due to ongoing fault codes and software-related issues. The vehicle has been at an authorized Land Rover dealer for an extended period. The dealer has confirmed they are unable to proceed without direction or software updates from Jaguar Land Rover corporate engineering. For the last 60+ days, the issue has been repeatedly escalated between the dealer and corporate engineering with no actionable resolution, no repair authorization, and no clear timeline provided. I have even reached out customer relationship center file customer compliant which has not been responded to by LRNA/HQ. My case number is CASE:[XXX] Vehicle Background: •Vehicle would not charge beyond 80%. I scheduled an appointment with the local dealers to inspect. LR: Identified a coolant issue within the high voltage system. oRepair: We were able to get covered by LR per a service bulletin; however, the repair process took over a month. •November Subsequent issue: Check engine light appeared along with a “rotten egg” smell after charging. I returned the vehicle to the dealership. oRepair: LR identified power distribution box resistor out of target range with resistance causing over-charging. This took a month and believe a software issue may have caused this as well as cannot happen on non-plug in. oReplacement of both the power distribution box and battery cost $1,471. •December: Picked up the car and parked it for a week while out of town. The first week back I drove to work and the check engine light came on again. I have not yet received the vehicle back and it continues to throw powertrain codes. On May 25th, 2025 around noon, I was backing up my Range Rover out of the garage to go and buy some items, after I exited the garage I felt that the car had bumped an item in the back, I did not see anything on the back view camera because sometimes it is slow to load up and also I did not hear any warning noises from the rear sensors, I moved the car forward trying to avoid further bump and to my knowledge I put the rotary gear selector in parking mode and got out of the car, at that point the car started moving backward, and I got stuck between the open door and the backward moving car, I tried to put my hand on the break to stop the car and I manage to stop the car at the time when the car hit a bench under the tree, and I got pinned between the open door and the bench that was stopped by the tree. I had a major trauma to the right side of my body, I was rushed to the nearest hospital, when it was decided that I need to be transported to a larger facility via ambulance. Radiology tests showed a large hematoma on the right side of my body between the rib cage and the pelvis along with a flank hernia with pertruding of the right colon. My home security camera caught the incident, unfortunately, I am unable to upload the file because your system does not allow.Mov type of files.

There is a current recall from January of last year that is affecting surround view cameras not currently working. My vehicle is experiencing the same issue but is not showing listed in the recall. Due to cameras not working it puts my safety and other at risk as I am not able to see when backing up or the surrounding areas especially when towing. A dealership may be looking into it soon as this issue just began. No other warning the cameras just don’t turn or are blurry, fuzzy and flicker. This includes all cameras. Front sides and rear.

the brakes failed to function while I drove. I almost hit the car in front of me. the brake booster was not functioning. the engine check light appeared suddenly, but with that other messages too, and also that was safe to continue to drive with caution. Just to mention two more messages that appeared on the display were: Stability control not available and Hill descent Control not available. I had to press extremely hard to break the car and of course I had to drive very slowly. I was cough of guard and almost hit a car in front of me at the traffic light. afterwards I just drove very slowly to my house. I checked the errors on my car and did research (I did not go to the dealership because they just extort money from you). I found out that the auxiliary battery failed. I replaced the battery and reset the system and the new battery information and that fixed the issue. I read on the Land Rover forums similar experience from many owners of this car. I believe there is a serious design flow because the low voltage of the auxiliary battery should not have caused the brake booster to malfunction while I drove. Just to mention that this auxiliary battery is an additional battery, (it looks like a motorcycle battery) and the main one is still healthy. And this is a hybrid (PHEV) car. Lots of source of energy to power important modules in the car which should not depend on the small auxiliary battery. Plus, the engine was running, meaning the alternator should be enough to power the modules that failed. I was very scared and happy that it was not my wife who drove the car. I have a report that was generated by the diagnostic tool that I use. A lot of errors popped up during that scary drive home. I attached the report I recorded from my diagnostic tool.

In June 2023, I started my car and I got 2 error messages "Hill Descent Control not available" and "OK to drive with caution stability control not available", then when pressing the brake, it was very difficult to press the brake and stop the car. I took to the dealer and they replaced the secondary auxillary battery. In July 2024, I started my car and received the same 2 error messages and had trouble using my brakes again (same issue as in 2023). My car is again at the dealer, and I am told that the secondary auxiliary battery has failed again, and they can't figure out why. This seems to be a serious and dangerous situation, and I read online that there have been other complaints from other owners. My 4-year/50k mile warranty expires in October 2024, and I would like Land Rover to cover any future issues (at the very least) following the warranty period since this seems to be a recurring issue.

The 2020 Range Rover, under warranty with 33,200 miles, has been inspected by the insurance and determined to be a total loss due to an electrical failure that caused the SUV to catch fire. The driver and a 4 year old were in the vehicle when the electrical failure started. The fire was behind the child seat, on the rear right hand seat, in the trunk compartment. The risk of serious bodily injury or death to a 4 year old and a female adult passenger was imminent. On May 23, 2023, departed my residence in San Diego, CA in my 2020 Land Rover Range Rover (hereafter referred to as LRRR) at approx 8:30 am with my 4 year old son, seated, buckled and secured in his car seat, positioned in the rear passenger side of the LRRR, enroute to his preschool, located at the Schwartz Federal Building in San Diego, CA 92101. It is an approximate 12-15 minute drive and 7 miles one direction on both surface streets and highways. The weather was cloudy approximately 65 degrees F, clear visibility on the road and dry. Approx 10 minutes into the drive, we were traveling southbound on Interstate 15 and transitioning to Highway 94 westbound we smelled something “funny” which at the time I could best describe as burning celery. As I was driving in moderate morning commuter traffic, I lowered the windows and we still smelled the odor, I raised the windows and still smelled the odor and then again lowered the windows with no change and no ability to determine if the odor was internal or external. There were no warning lights/indicators illuminated on the LRRR dash or alarm sounds. At approximately 8:45 am, I parked the LRRR on a public street, parallel to curbside in the area of 904 State Street, San Diego, CA 92101, exited the vehicle, unloaded my son and left to complete preschool drop off. A recall was repaired on the vehicle in July 2022. Within 48 hours of repair, a high voltage warning appeared on the vehicle. The vehicle was taken in for service however the service department at Land Rover Tampa refused to check the warning because the light was not on at the time the vehicle arrived at the dealership. Approximately 2 weeks later, the low battery warning appeared on the vehicle and every electrical function of the vehicle began to shut down within 15 minutes of the warning. The vehicle was completely disabled and couldn't even have a battery jump or replacement. AAA was called and after inspection, AAA refused to sell a new battery because the diagnostics determined that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle had to be towed twice before arriving to the retailer. The retailer initially attempted the repair the issue and disregarded the diagnostic from AAA by replacing the batteries however it it did not work. The retailer attempted to repair the issue 4 more times prior to returning the vehicle to the owner August 12, 2022. However, at pick up the low battery warning appeared once again and the service advisor stated that the warning would go away after driving. Less than 24 hours later, the low battery warning reappeared, the vehicle immediately began to shut down and the vehicle was completely disabled after crossing 4 lanes of traffic. The retailer towed the vehicle to its service department and attempted to repair the issue again. Unfortunately, the repair did not work and the vehicle was towed again on September 23, 2022 after the retailer was test driving the vehicle. The vehicle is still inoperable as of January 12, 2023. The vehicle is unsafe and Land Rover Corporate and all retailers are aware of this issue.

On December 17, 2022 I got back in my car from an earlier outing and had no brakes whatsoever. There was no warning, only a warning light afterwards that read something along the lines of "*** brake problem. Still safe to drive." The car is under warranty so I had it towed to Tacoma Land Rover. The brake situation was so dire that I sealed the key in an envelope, warning people there were no brakes. Long story but they determined that the brake failure was caused by a "dead auxiliary battery." I believe they said they replaced the battery but they might have recharged it since I wasn't asked to pay for a new one. If this had happened on the highway, I and others could have easily died. I'm afraid my safety is still at risk because there simply was no warning. I was fortunate that I was downtown late in the evening so there weren't many cars or pedestrians. I don't know if Land Rover had anyone inspect anything. There is no mention of it in the paperwork. I have asked them several times to change that "discharge" paperwork to reflect a "complete brake failure" but they do not reply. Paperwork currently reads something along the lines of, "...customer reports brake pedal is hard to depress..." and that's not the case at all.

The vehicle was taken land rover mission viejo located at 28701 marguerite pkwy, mission viejo, ca 92692, (949) 359-5157, where it was diagnosed with needing a gear shift module to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact also stated on april of 2020, she was unable to start the ignition. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed back to local dealer jaguar land rover ventura, where it was diagnosed with needing a mild hybrid electric vehicle (mhev DC2 dc) to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. I ran to the car, opened the driver door, and tried to stop it but fell. the car ran over my foot and hit the front of the house that caused it to stop. prior to this incident it was in for service for a foul odor that was coming from inside of my car. they had it in the shop twice and made a repair that did not fully correct the issue. a few days prior to this incident I noticed there was an issue on acceleration. after about 10 miles an hour it would start to hesitate then go into the next gear. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) is upgrading its Preliminary Evaluation (PE25006) of front steering knuckle fractures on model year (MY) 2014 through 2017 Range Rover Sport vehicles to an Engineering Analysis. ODI opened PE25006 on June 27, 2025, after receiving 12 Vehicle Owner's Questionnaire (VOQ) reports of the front aluminum steering knuckles fracturing in these vehicles. The reports describe the fractures occurring at the joint where the steering knuckle attaches to the upper control arm ball joint in one or both steering knuckles. Fracture of the front suspension knuckle can lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm. Detachment of the upper suspension arm results in the driver’s inability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. ODI reviewed information supplied by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in response to Information Request letters as well as reviewed the data with JLR on numerous occasions. ODI further reviewed relevant data on a peer vehicle with a significantly similar steering knuckle design, the MY 2014 through 2017 Range Rover. Much of the information is contradictory and requires a deeper analysis that is available in an Engineering Analysis. On August 5, 2025, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) filed safety recall 25V514. This recall covers certain MY 2014 and all MY 2015-2017 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. The remedy for recall 25V514 addresses knuckles with and without a visible fracture. Knuckles that have developed a visible fracture will be replaced with a new knuckle of a substantially similar design. Knuckles with no fracture visibly present will have a brace attached to the upper portion of the front steering knuckle. JLR states that the purpose of the brace is to prevent the component from completely separating should a fracture develop. NHTSA continues to receive allegations of fractures occurring in the front steering knuckles of Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles. Two of the most recent VOQs received by ODI involve front steering knuckle fractures occurring on MY 2020 and MY 2021 Range Rover L405 vehicles. ODI will continue to investigate the component design and assess the potential safety risk as part of this Engineering Analysis and evaluate the recall remedies for Recall 25V514. Further, the scope of this Engineering Analysis will be expanded to include MY 2018-2022 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport vehicles as they have a substantially similar component design.
