Nhtsa recall number 11v-244 recall, manufacturer recall number: r1108. I recently purchased this vehicle which was in seattle wa. I live in illinois and took this car yesterday to anderson nissan in rockford, il for the open recall. I was told that their inspection showed no rust and due to the life of this car, no further action will be taken on this recall. my concern IS that now that this car will be exposed to snow and salt, it will rust!! This car IS in good condition and I hope to get many more years out of it (odometer IS 152,500 miles). I contacted nissan consumer affairs, case# 24193883, who said that my request to remedy the strut housing (i was told by the dealership that the fix IS remove rust and then apply paint) will be referred to their regional office. What recourse do I have on this issue?

I am writing as requested on our phone call on january 3 2015 as you are aware my wife and eleven year old daughter were nearly in an accident on december 15 2014. My 1999 nissan pathfinder had gone back to the dealer in 2014 as there was a recall on strut tower failure in high road salt sections of the country. they repaired the driver side strut tower and half of the passenger side tower the enclosed pictures show where they stopped the repair. This IS where the tower failed. According to my mechanic if they had completed the procedure correctly this part of the tower would not have failed causing the brake lines to separate and break. *tr

I had the pathfinder tested for the rusted strut mount and corrosion issue in 2011. now it IS more than three years since I had the recall performed but I have no way of knowing if the pathfinder three and a half years later IS now safe to drive. what IS the nhtsa policy on rust-related issues when an owner would like to keep their vehicle but with increased driving time on salty roads, they no longer have access to the recall that was designed to ensure safety? I am at the point where I have to make a substantial investment in major maintanence on the vehicle yet I do not know if the vehicle would pass the recall that it was tested for some 40 miles ago and, more importantly, three very hard winters on salty streets. *tr

After a 1500 mile trip back from new york state I pressed the brake pedal while starting the car and putting it into drive and the pedal went to the floor and all brake fluid went onto the ground in my driveway. Due to extreme road conditions in the northeast salt and snow the brake lines in the rear of the vehicle completely failed I lost both front and rear brakes at the same time. After a $1500 repair on both brake lines and exhaust the car was back on the road again. Now 3 years later the brake lines under the hood have failed thankfully in the driveway, all fluid lost and no brakes from or rear. *tr

I took my car to the mansfield ohio nissan mmg dealership to be inspected for a corrosion recall. The dealership provided me with a loaner while the inspections were carried out. Nissan decided that the car was not repairable and offered to buy the vehicle for $5,600. I had a few days to consider the offer but was under immense pressure and threats that I would have to pay for storage charges for my car on their lot and also the loaner car if I did not accept their offer. The dealership even threatened resorting to "other measures" which I interpreted as "call the police" if I did not either accept the offer or return the loaner car. We are a single income family, partially disable spouse who can't work with 2 kids in college so I can't afford a car payment or to take a loss on the vehicle. I told nissan that I could not afford their offer because I had decided about a year ago that I need to get another 100K miles out of this car and then proceeded to invest about $4,000 into major maintenance that would extend the life of the car. I was willing to prove all of it with receipts. I was told by nissann that they would never pay me for this maintenance, no matter what. I asked for a copy of the inspection report so I could assess the risk and that was denied. I could not financially afford the offer and could not longer tolerate the stress of worrying about not having a car or the police after me so I returned the loaner and picked up my car and have put it back into full service. When leaving the lot I hear a noise in the front and felt something in the steering that I have never noticed before. I have since heard it a few more times. I asked nissan if this could have been caused by the inspection but they are not answering me. Why would corrosion make a noise ? I'm scared to drive the car, can't afford the offer, can't handle any more threats. Help ? *js

This IS for nissan pathfinder voluntary safety recall campaign 1996-2004 pathfinder in salt states left front strut housing corrosion campaign ID # r1107 nhtsa # 11v-224. I dropped in pathfinder in the dealership at the end of sept.2011. the dealership told me that the car was unrepairable and leased a car to me. I have not got any information until march 27, 2012. dealership called me said that car was fixed. dealer told me that they did not think it was repairable, but nissan wanted them to repair. based on nhtsa safe recall compendium (a guide for the reporting, notification, and remedy of motor vehicle and motor vehicle equipment in accordance with title 49 of the united states code, chapter 301 and supporting federal regulations) prepared by the recall management division office of defects investigation national highway traffic safety administration u.s. Department of transportation, under II recall remedy (page 10) that if the repair period exceed 60 days, manufacturer needs to replace the item with an identical or reasonably equivalent item or for a vehicle, refund its purchase price less a reasonable amount for depreciation. but now nissan does not follow this rule and asked me to take the car back. I don't know which department will take care that nissan IS against the nhtsa rule? *tr

1999 nissan pathfinder. Consumer writes in regards to reimbursement of expenses related to the nissan salt states recall *tgw the consumer stated in march 2010, she noticed the vehicle was difficult to steer and making a grinding and rubbing noise during steering. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop where it was documented that the driver side suspension, left housing and left side strut seams were rusted and broken due to major corrosion. The corrosion caused parts of the unit to rub against the steering column which caused the grinding noise. It was found that the strut and apron were not safe to support the driver side suspension. The repairs were made to the driver left side of the vehicle's strut to correct the driver-side suspension and overall steering. The consumer IS seeking reimbursement as she referenced recall #11v244000. *jb

In their Defect Information Report (DIR) of April 20, 2011, Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) notified NHTSA that it would conduct a safety recall of certain 1996-2004 Nissan Pathfinder and 1997-2003 Infinity QX4 vehicles to repair corrosion damage to the driver's side front strut tower. The vehicles included in the recall are those that were originally sold, or are currently registered in salt belt states including Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia. The DIR states in part, ...the strut housing may crack and pull away from the inner hood ledge assembly. This could lead to the strut housing panel separating and contacting the steering column lower shaft.Contact with the steering column lower shaft can cause steering difficulties and may require an increase in steering effort by the driver. If the steering column lower shaft completely fractured it would result in a total loss of steering control. In some cases, the strut housing panel can contact or affect adjacent brake system components.Complainants reported experiencing either steering or brake system issues, and in some cases, both.Nissan dealer's will inspect the strut housing and, based on the level of corrosion found, make an assessment as to how to remedy the vehicle (see defect information report for additional details). Brake system components adjacent to, and in the area of, the strut tower (i.e., brake master cylinder, left front brake line, ABS wire harness, etc.) will also be inspected.
