I was driving to work when my transmission failed. There was no warning. I was driving about 60mph, and had to merge to the side of the road. I had to get it towed, and it was determined the radiator failed, causing radiator fluid to get into the transmission. This ruined the transmission. Cost IS about $4,000 to replace, and third party warranty IS refusing to cover any of it.

My 2009 nissan pathfinder (after the warranty ran out), started having issues with the transmission and overheating. lo and behold we have an issue where the radiator and transmission fluid IS mixing. this appears to be the same problem others have reported as a failed transmission fluid cooler integrated in the radiator that allowed engine coolant to mix with and contaminate the automatic transmission fluid. There were no warning signs leading up to the failures other than a sudden jolt of the vehicle like the transmission was slipping. this always happens while the vehicle IS moving at slow and high speeds.

When driving uphill on long mountain roads and shifting the automatic transmission down to 2, 3 or 4, the car won't stay in gear. After a few minutes of driving it will shift by itself into 5 without allowing you to shift down again. You can only go into d or stop and shut down the engine. The transmission shop already replaced the shifting assembly, inspected the entire transmission & wires from the computer. No problem could be identified but the issue remains. The car will stay in lower gears when driving downhill. It's a mystery and very expensive to diagnose further. Do you have any ideas? The local nissan dealer IS unable to help. They worked on the computer and main circuit boards about 5 yrs ago ' could the have possibly caused this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

I was entering a parking lot and turning into a parking spot. As I applied the brakes the brake pedal went to the floor and the car proceed towards a brick wall and window. I immediately started pumping the brakes and got a "soft pedal" just off the floor and the car stopped just before crashing into a major grocery store window. being experienced with cars I immediately checked the master cylinder for fluid which was full. Checked all the wheels for leaks and were dry as well as the lines. I went into the store and called for someone to pick me up. On returning to the car about 30 minutes later I started the car and applied the brakes and found them to be normal. on doing some online research have found this has happened to many people that drive the same platform vehicle not just the pathfinder. Unitl this problem IS identified and corrected there easily could be a major accident involving injurys. I am now driving my pathfinder with the vdc button in the off position and it was suggested that I also remove the ABS fuse as there IS somekind of conflict between the computer systems software causing the brake system to shutdown. some people have spent $1,000 of dollars having systems rebuilt replacing master cylinders, pads and rotors only to find it has not corrected the problem. repeating this not just the 2009 pathfinder problem but includes all nissan vehicles that share the same platform and braking system.

On February 29, 2012 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) received a letter petitioning the agency to conduct a defect investigation into MY 2005-2010 Nissan Pathfinder, Frontier, and Xterra vehicles [the subject vehicles] for automatic transmission failures related to failed transmission coolers.NHTSA conducted a comprehensive review of data related to this subject. Our report, documenting this review, is available in the document file for this defect petition. It will also be published in the Federal Register. Of the 2,505 referenced complaints, 638 relate to a potential hazard (unable to maintain speed, no motive power, engine stall) and 1,867 concern customer satisfaction issues including, but not limited to, repair cost, vehicle shudder and shake, and engine overheating.Taking into account the allocation of agency resources and priorities and the likelihood that additional investigation would result in a finding that an unreasonable risk to highway safety exists, we conclude that further investigation is not warranted and deny the petition.ODI Complaint ID numbers are referenced on the next page.

• 10192615SERVICE INFORMATION The information in this bulletin is provided to help ensure correct diagnosis and repair of fluid leaks. All fluid leaks, when properly diagnosed, should be repaired (whether under warranty or customer pay) to ensure proper vehicle operation. However, certain normal operating conditions can be misdiagnosed as a leak requiring repair. Unnecessary repair or replacement of parts in connection with incorrectly diagnosed "leaks" can negatively impact customer satisfaction, be time consuming and costly, and if not performed correctly can lead to future repairs. See this bulletin for further detail.
• 10192597SERVICE INFORMATION When servicing run flat tires or low profile tires: - Special equipment and procedures are required to avoid damage. - Specifically, Tire Pressure Monitor transmitters (TPMS sensors) can be damaged when improperly dismounting and mounting tires. - TPMS sensors becoming damaged during mounting or dismounting tires are not covered under warranty. - To avoid such damage, ensure that the tire changer being used and the operator of the tire changer is capable of servicing run flat and low profile tires. - Operator?s manuals for such tire changers must be followed. See this bulletin for further detail.
• 10192591SERVICE INFORMATION After ECM reprogramming, the Calibration Verification Number (CVN) needs to be automatically calculated prior to State emissions testing (also known as Inspection Maintainence, I/M, or SMOG testing depending upon location). Allowing the vehicle to idle for 22 minutes will allow for faster CVN calculation. It is recommended that customers utilize this method if the vehicle needs to be tested for emissions soon after ECM reprogramming. See this bulletin for further detail.
• 10192532SERVICE INFORMATION NOTE - Failure to follow the procedures in this bulletin may result in the denial of a warranty claim. In an effort to protect the paint finish, Paint Guard Film (PGF) is applied on many new Nissan vehicles. Paint Guard Film is a temporary white plastic protective film that is applied by the factory to the horizontal painted surfaces of the vehicle. The PGF protects the paint finish during vehicle handling, transportation and storage from harmful elements such as acid rain, iron particles, bird droppings, tree sap and other environmental contaminants. NOTE - Paint Guard Film CANNOT remain on the vehicle for more than six months after the vehicle's manufacture date. PGF must be removed at the end of six months. See this bulletin for further detail.

• 10192506IF YOU CONFIRM: Squeal/Squeak noise from the front brakes: While moving forward or reverse, with very light brake application (pedal pressure), after the vehicle has been sitting, typically overnight ("cold" brakes), at speeds less than 10 MPH, while traveling straight or turning. ACTION: Replace the hardware on both front brake calipers with the kit listed in the Parts Information in this bulletin. See this bulletin for further detail.
• 10192478SERVICE INFORMATION Starting with 2010 Model Year, Nissan vehicles have been gradually incorporating a new type of DTC known as Permanent DTC or P-DTC. If a vehicle is equipped with P-DTCs, all emission related DTCs will also set a P-DTC if the MIL is turned ON. A listing of which DTCs that will also set a P-DTC is found in the DTC Index in the EC-Engine Control section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM). If a DTC repair is performed and the DTC erased, a vehicle may fail an Emission Inspection and Maintenance test if the P-DTC is not also erased. See this bulletin for further detail.
• 10192474SERVICE INFORMATION If a customer describes lack of power or poor acceleration, perform the following checks before attempting any repair: * Check for stored DTCs. * Check if the driver is resting their left foot on the brake pedal while accelerating. Advise the customer not to rest their foot on the brake while accelerating. * Use CONSULT-III plus in Engine Data Monitor to check operation of the brake lamp circuit signal. Monitor the brake switch during the incident; it should be "OFF". Please see this bulletn for further details.
• 10192394SERVICE INFORMATION Related to communication codes U1000, U1001, U1002, U1010: - Always diagnose the communication codes first. - When a module reports a U1000 code, it is typically operating normally; however, there is a communication error external to that module on the CAN network. - U1000 indicates an error. V-CAN diagram or CAN Diag Support Monitor provides data to determine the location of the error. See this bulletin for more information.
• 10192326SERVICE INFORMATION The specifications for the intake and exhaust valves and valve lifter service parts have been changed. * The valve stem length of both intake and exhaust valve has been increased (Figure 1) and are a direct replacement for the shorter style valve. * The related valve lifter cup has been shortened (Figure 2) and the point at which the valve lifter contacts the valve stem has been shortened (not shown). These service parts will require that the valve and valve lifter be replaced at the same time. See this bulletin for further details.
• 10192305SERVICE INFORMATION Information necessary to service the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) safely is included in the "RESTRAINTS" section of the Electronic Service Manual (ESM) for each vehicle. IMPORTANT: Turn the ignition switch OFF, disconnect both battery terminals, and wait at least 3 minutes before performing any service on the SRS. See this bulletin for further detail.
• 10192293SERVICE INFORMATION Replacement Engine Control Modules (ECMs) for many newer Nissan vehicles are now "Blank" ECMs. Blank ECMs come without software and must be programmed (not reprogrammed) before they will function. See this bulletin for further detail.
