11 recalls name the 1992 Plymouth Voyager. Newest first.
Vehicle description: minivans. the left hand windshield wiper pivot drive arm was not mechanically staked to the pivot shaft.
This could allow the drive arm to disengage from the shaft leading to a loss of wiper function. the driver's visibility would be impaired, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the left hand side windshield wiper pivot assembly.
Vehicle description: passenger mini-vans. covers on the solid stalk mounted seat belt buckles can become dislodged causing the release button to stick inside the cover. the buckle would then be only partially latched.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained increasing the risk of personal injury.
Dealers will install a cover retaining clip to the stalk mounted buckle cover to prevent dislocation of the buckle cover.
Vehicle description: passenger mini-vans. The center rear seat, right outboard side, safety belt anchor hook can become unattached from the body anchor position.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained increasing the risk of personal injury.
Dealers will replace the anchor hook retaining clip with a revised profile clip and a cover plate.
The bolts used to attach the strut to the body and the rear liftgate can accumulate fatigue damage if three factors combine. if the bolt IS loose, the gas strut IS over-pressurized, and the frequency of opening and closing cycles IS higher than for the average customer, the bolt can fail.
Personal injury could occur if the bolts break allowing the liftgate to fall suddenly.
Dealers will inspect for loose fasteners, if the fasteners are loose, the strut (and integral bolts) will be replaced. if the bolt shows evidence of torque, the bolt will be removed, larger washers will replace the existing washer and the bolt will be reinstalled and hand tightened to the target torqued.
The steering wheel armature stamping can crack and separate from the center hub attachment to the steering column.
If the steering wheel separates from the center hub attachment to the steering column, loss of control can occur increasing the risk of an accident.
Dealers will inspect the steering wheel for armature cracks in the center hub attachment area. any steering wheels showing cracks will be replaced. all other vehicles will have a reinforcement plate installed to prevent steering wheel separation in the event cracking occurs.
The ABS hydraulic control unit can experience excessive brake actuator piston seal wear causing pump-motor deterioration.
If this condition occurs, the ABS function could be lost and reduced power assist would be experienced during vehicle braking increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Dealers will test the vehicle's anti-lock brake system and repair the vehicles if necessary. Also the warranty on all ABS components will be extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles (except for the brake actuator piston assembly and the pump-motor assembly which will have a lifetime coverage). Owners will also be reimbursed for previous ABS component repair costs.

If the liftgate latch opens, occupants can be ejected resulting in significantly increased risk of injury or death.
Chrysler dealers will replace the liftgate latch with a new stronger latch assembly without charge. chrysler began notifying owners of these vehicles in october 1995.

Chrysler dealers will replace the liftgate latch with a new stronger latch assembly without charge. chrysler began notifying owners of these vehicles in march 1996.
Fuel tank flanges were not bent as required to allow the specified clearance for the fuel tank mounting straps and fuel lines at the tank.
The unbent flanges to the fuel tank will damage themounting straps and/or fuel lines. The damaged mounting straps may break causingthe tank to drop and the damaged fuel line will leak fuel. In either case a firecould result if the spilled fuel IS exposed to an ignition source.
Repair the flange by bending to the correct angle; replace damaged fuel lines and mounting straps.
The zinc plating operation performed on the upper steering column shaft coupling bolt caused hydrogen embrittlement and breakage of the bolt.
Fractures of the upper steering column shaft couplingbolt result in a lack of coupling load on the shaft and loss of steeringcontrol.
Replace the zinc plated bolt with a phosphate plated bolt.
The brake pedal pad attachment to the pedal arm may not have adequate strength due to mislocation of welds, and could break.
Failure of the pedal pad to pedal arm attachment resultsin loss of braking ability, and could result in an accident.
Replace inadequate brake pedals with properly manufactured pedals.
TL* the contact owns a 1992 plymouth voyager. The contact stated that the brake system failed. The brake pedal stuck to the floorboard while driving approximately 40 mph and the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the motor pump assembly failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer advised that nhtsa campaign number: 96v099000 (service brakes, hydraulic) was performed and the lifetime warranty for the motor pump assembly expired. The failure mileage was 95,000.
TL* the contact owns a 1992 plymouth voyager. The contact stated while driving approximately 45 mph there was a loss of power steering without any warning. The steering wheel became extremely difficult to maneuver. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired nor was the failure diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
TL* the contact owns a 1992 plymouth voyager. The contact received notification of a recall under nhtsa campaign ID number: 96v099000 (component: service brakes, hydraulic: antilock) and had repairs performed by the dealer. Following repairs, the anti lock braking system and brake warning lights remained illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer advised the brake actuator piston assembly and the pump motor assembly would need to be replaced. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. The approximate failure and current mileages were 138,000.
I have a 1992 ply voyager. in 2004 I had to have the engine and transmission changed since both were defective. the engine was $4,251.25 and the transmission was $2501. I have the receipts. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1992 plymouth voyager. the contact discovered a recall pertaining to the ABS in his vehicle and took it to the dealer. he was informed that they were not warranting the repair. in 2003, the contact experienced brake failure and was informed that the repair was made under warranty at that time. the failure and current mileages were 11,800.
Tl*the contact owns a 1992 plymouth voyager. while driving 15 mph uphill, the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. the vehicle finally came to a stop 5 seconds later. the ABS and brake warning indicator lights illuminated. the repair shop stated that the master cylinder was leaking fluid. the current and failure mileages were 70,000. updated 01-14-08. *kb the ABS pump was replaced. Updated
My 1992 chrysler voyager has bendix 10 ABS brakes and once the brake booster was out. Our local chrysler dealer made certain that the booster pump was burned out. While the pump was already replaced in 2000 they said the warranty covers only 1 pump per vehicle!! As I know recall 96v-99 (chrysler recall #685) refers to a lifetime warranty (for booster electrical pump). Short life, isn't it? *Tr
1992 plymouth grand voyager SE has peeling paint. The peeling paint has caused windshield loose and has become a safety hazard (they're not supposed to come loose in a crash). The most recent windshield replacement has shown rust starting to form around the paint. *nm
Dt: the contact stated there was nhtsa recall 96v099000 involving the anti lock brakes. the vehicle was repaired accordingly to the recall. he felt though the recall repairs have not corrected the problem because the vehicle continued to have anti lock brake problems. . there have been no further repairs due to the expense.
Headlight lenses cloud up un many of these vehicles to the point it restricts the amount of light that passes through the lens which in turn gives poor visability. If the manufacturers choose to continue using these covers then they should replace them free of charge when cloudy.. this IS a safety hazard. *ak
Brake light turned on while vehicle was being driven. Brakes did not operate. Vehicle was taken to dealer for repairs three times, but the problem recurred..
Brakes were defective. consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who stated that consumer's computer was defective, and it would have to be replaced for $1400.00. after taking the vehicle to another dealer it was discovered no defects on the computer. the brake pump was found to be defective.*ak
While driving vehicle vibrated. Consumer heard a beating noise coming from the rear driver's side of the vehicle. Consumer saw the tread separate from the tire through rear view mirror. Firestone, fr410, dot vdmo 41A 4100, p205/70r15. *Ak
Around 4/30/04 you sent us a vehicle owner's questionnaire. We filled out the forms and sent them back to you, but have not had a response back. the brake actuator piston & the pump-motor assembly have a lifetime coverage, but chrysler want us to pay for other parts not necessary to get more money from us. we believe if these two parts are replaced the brakes will work fine. Big a brakes agree with us, but we have not been able to get chrysler to fix the brake problem. we would like a response from you so we know where we stand on this situation.*ak
When the brakes are depressed vehicle will not stop. Consumer claims that the brakes were fixed under a previous recall, but problem still persists. dealer insists that the problem IS the hydraulic control unit.*ak
I have a 1992 plymouth voyager. due to a defect in the engine, I had to have it rplaced in april of 2002. then this april, I had to have the transmission replaced. simply put I had to have the engine replaced due to excessive smoking through the tail pipe. I am sure you have had other reports of this. it costs me $4,251.25 to replace and the transmission was another $2500. I do believe that chrysler should reimburse me for this. I have copies of historical maintenance reports for my van and copies of the bills for the engine and trasmission. when I had the engine replaced my regular place of repair, goodyear, said it need an expensive valve job and this may or may not resolve the problem. thanks you for reading this.
Paint on roof peeling off also hood and side rear panel passengers side
Airbags did not deploy in broadside crash suspension IS messed up steering wheel wobbles hard when turning engine failed 6 months after van was bought and scores of other problems
Airbag light came on, then the cruise quit working, and now the horn does not work. I believe the clock spring IS defective creating a safety hazard in that the airbag IS inoperative and the horn does not work.*ak
When stepping on the brake pedal ABS light would came on, and vehicle would experience extended stopping distance. *Ak
The brakes were repaired under recall# 96v099000 in august 2001. the brakes were intermittent after the repair and now the brakes are not operating at all. the dealer will only do the repairs at the owner's expense because the brakes are out of warranty. *ak the dual function pressure switch repaired the power to the pump. the accumulator was needed for it to maintain the correct pressure. the dealer did not complete the recall. no repairs were found in the ABS wiring. *scc *jb
While driving brakes failed, as a result, vehicle was totaled. Dealer notified. *Ak
The brake pedal became hard when applied. *nlm
The wheels locked up, and the mechanic replaced the cv shaft, 3 miles down the road shaft broke again. *jb
On 21 february 2003, the bolt used to attach the right strut to the body and the rear liftgate broke not allowing the rear liftgate to open. A review of recalls for my model of vehicle (1992 plymouth voyager) on the nhtsa complaints database disclosed recall # 97v079000. The recall summary advised that owner notifications began during august 1997. I was never notified of this recall.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Alleged failures of windshield wiper systems
Alleged windshield wipers fail while in use
Cfas petitioned the agency to conduct a defect investigation on windshield wiper failure on 1989 and later chrysler models which should include, but not limited to spirit/acclaim: dynasty/new yorker/landau; lance/lebaron; shadow/sundance; caravan/voyager.however, based on odi's complaint records, only certain minivans will be investigated

After an extensive investigation and analysis, chrysler has identified the defect as a fatigue failure, origination in the heat affected region of the projection welds of the steering wheel hub to steering wheel armature attachment.the hub IS the portion of the steering wheel assembly that connects it to the steering column shaft and IS attached to the underside of the steering wheel assembly by 4 welds.if cracks develop in the heat affected region of the welds and propagate through the steering wheel armature to each of the welds, the steering wheel can separate from the hub.this IS a slow progressive failure which normally occurs at high mileage.in some cases complainants have reported a looseness or wobbling of the steering wheel prior to separation.to remedy this defect, chrysler will inspect the steering wheels of the affected vehicles for cracks in the hub area.if any cracks are found, the steering wheel will be replaced.all other vehicles will have reinforcing plates installed which would prevent a steering wheel separation should cracking occur.

Liftgate latches in the subject vehicles have failed in low and moderate speed impacts resulting in occupant ejections, injuries, and fatalities.there are two failure modes associated with latch failure: fork bolt-detent lever bypass, and inertial unlatching.nhtsa analyses of chrysler and peer minivans took the form of static and dynamic crash testing, engineering evaluations, complaint and field analyses, and real world data analyses.a technical report discussing these analyses can be found in the engineering analysis technical report in the public viewing file.chrysler has advised nhtsa that it will conduct a campaign to replace the latches on all the subject vehicles.the chrysler campaign will consist of notification letters to all owners; free replacement of all latches with stronger, safer latches regardless of the age of the minivans; national advertising to promote customer awareness of the campaign; quarterly reports regarding campaign completion rates; as well as additional measures to ensure a high completion rate, above and beyond the actions that normally would be taken in a formal safety recall.these include follow up written and telephonic notifications to owners who do not bring their vehicles in for corrective action.nhtsa firmly believes that the crash performance of the latches on these minivans raises serious safety concerns, and that the campaign addresses these concerns.the chrysler corrective action will increase the strength of the liftgate latches and decrease the potential for inertial unlatching, thereby reducing the risk of crash-related openings of the liftgate and possible occupant ejection through the liftgate opening.owners of chrysler minivans will get a stronger, safer latch free of charge at the earliest possible time, without the need for further technical investigation and complex and time-consuming litigation with an uncertain outcome.based on the above, odi IS closing this investigation.
