Vehicle description: MINI vans built with 3.3L and 3.8L engines have fuel rails with nitrole rubber o-ring seals that can degrade over time. fuel leakage from the underhood fuel injection fuel rail could result, increasing the likelihood of a vehicle fire.
Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
Dealers will install a seal on the vehicle fuel rails to prevent external leakage of fuel from the fuel rail crossover tube, should the existing o-rings continue to degrade. owner notification began on january 25, 2002. due to the large quantity of vehicles involved in this campaign, the owner notification will be phased over the next several months. however, if a vehicle IS leaking fuel from the o-rings, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
The serpentine belt comes off causing the power steering to fail, and the alternator not to work. this has occurred off and on since the vehicle was new. this failure occurs in motion when the streets are wet and a bit bumpy.
TL* the contact owned a 2000 plymouth voyager. While driving 30 mph, the driver crashed into a wall and the air bags failed to deploy. The driver was fatally injured. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
My minivan has a badly corroded driver side strut tower that chrysler knows IS a product flow yet will not authorise repairs to. This places all owners families and the general public at grave danger when this tower. *tr collapses for the vehicle looses steering and the wheel falls off. I feel a recall IS in high order before someone gets injured or killed.this may have happened already.all minivans from 1996-2000 are affected. All my calls have fallen on deaf ears. Own up to your product flaw chysler and do the right thing! You got government bail out money how about bailing out your customers and the general public at large. I hope my family or the general public will not succumb to this product defect.
Driver's side upper strut tower sheet metal rusted through - passenger side strut tower, like new(no rust at all) many other like vehicle complaints found on internet search. *tr
Over the past 5 years - since the replacement my serpentine belt on my 2000 chrysler voyager has popped off 4 or 5 times. Since our local dealer IS no longer here I had to pay $93.21 today to have the belt put back. The mechanic checked the belt and tensioner and found both in practically brand new condition and good working order. He could not find a reason why it would come off. Each time it has come off was after a rain. In researching this problem online I found that it has happened a lot to many others also. My former dealer's mechanics also could not explain why this occurs. This IS a dangerous situation that needs a quick and permanent solution since all the power controls such as steering are managed by this one belt. Once out you no longer have any power assisted steering. *tr updated 06/30/11 *bf updated 07/01/11
TL* the contact owns a 2000 chrysler voyager. The engine serpentine belt was replaced july 2009 when the vehicle was taken to the garage for routine maintenance. Less than one month later, the serpentine belt failed. One month later, the belt completely fractured from the vehicle while driving 25 mph. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic where the serpentine belt was replaced. The failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 111,000.
I own a 2000 chrysler voyager SE 3.3L. the driver's side strut tower had severe rust almost to the point of rusting completely through. vehicle has approx 146K miles. I was forced to pay a local body shop to repair the damage and install a new strut tower cap. *Tr
During a very heavy rain, I hit a big puddle which caused the serpentine belt to come off the pulleys. My mechanic said it IS a common problem with this vehicle. The result IS no power steering, no alternator to charge the battery and no water pump to cool the engine. I drove it until the temp gauge showed hot and then shut it down. No major damage resulted. Mechanic put belt back on for $15.00. 135K miles on vehicle and IS very dependable. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chrysler voyager. While driving in excessive rainy conditions, he noticed that the battery light appeared on the dashboard and the vehicle no longer had power steering. there were no prior warnings and the current and failure mileages were 89000. updated 12/07/09 *bf the serpentine belt was replaced. Updated 12/09/09
The strut towers of 2000 chrysler voyager are completely rusted out. if they break apart it will likely break through the hood or windshield causing serious accident and or injuries we were told by bloomington chrysler (the dealership where we purchased the vehicle) it would be $1000.00 to repair. they told me they have repaired over 30 similar vehicles just this summer 2009 with same problem. *Tr
Four tires tread separation all same tread wear douglas tire 215/70r14 I have photos available of today's tire and will photograph the remaining two serial numbers and check for the fourth at the wal mart that replaced it. Property damage was negligible but I was prepared for the tire failure I rotated them to the rear due to the belt wearing through the center of the tread. *Tr
Tsb #2304402 and nhtsa #10000317: I have this problem of a rusted out strut tower. my mechanic informed me that it could be dangerous to drive. although this IS a common problem for 1996 - 2000 minivans for all three chrysler models during those years, there IS no recall by the manufacturer, and there should be. *Tr
I have a 2000 chrysler MINI van and my serpentine belt keeps coming off when it rains. this has happened 4 times in one year. they have replaced the belt and fixed the tensioner its in the shop right now and waiting for a belt kit to fix the problem (gates system kit). why isn't there a recall on this problem? *Tr
My mother, brother, and I were on an emergency trip to arkansas in the middle of the night on 09/01/08. we had just gone through kansas city, mo when my brother (who was driving at the time) lost control of my 2000 plymouth voyager van and was able to get the van off to the side of the interstate. luckily, there was not a crash involved. the front driver's side tire was shredded down to nothing. he put on the spare tire and we stayed over night at an ihop restaurant. in the morning, we went to walmart and had the tire replaced for $84.74, and we were able to continue our trip. when we returned home to omaha, ne, I went to sears where the tires were originally purchased in may 2005. the manager of the garage at sears went out to look at the tire the shredded and also inspected the other tires. he was surprised by the look of the shredded tire (which I kept as evidence of the damage) and he also noticed that both passenger side tires were splitting on the sidewalls the same way that the blown tire did. the manager ordered three new tires, and they were mounted on 09/28/08. I have "road hazard plus service agreement" with sears, but it still cost me $317.96 to replace the 3 tires. sears adjusted the bill by $35.11 and $26.33 (tread adjustment) for the 2 tires that had splits on the sidewalls, but I had to pay the total cost of the tire that shredded. I was very upset by the whole situation. the tires were only 3 years old and had about 33,500 miles on them (75,000 mile warranty). the manager gave me the following number: pjkcwkhr1005, but I don't recall what it was for. in the end, it cost me $402.70 ($84.74 + $317.96) to replace the tires (i kept the walmart tire as a spare). I believe that these tires were a defective, bad batch of tires, and that I should be reimbursed by either goodyear or sears. I would like to know if there have been any other complaints about these particular tires. the tires are goodyear p205/75s14 weatherhandler LS. *Tr
My son was driving our minivan 2000 voyager and the factory wheel or rim cracked into two halves damaging the tire by cutting the side wall. I am not sure the other three rims are safe. *tr
Just informed from mechanic that my front strut towers are rusted through. driver side IS completed rotted away and passenger side should happen after this winter. my 2000 plymouth voyager has under 60,000mile and has only 2 owners. I have researched that this IS way too frequent in voyagers from 1996 to at least 2000 for their not be a mandate recall on this. the repair cost can cost up to $3000 which most people cannot afford. through my internet research, I am aware that chrysler issued some sort of suggested fix for the problem in 1992 but not a recall. this IS a serious problem and I know if at least 6 people personally that are having the same problem. something needs to be done! *Tr
Rust has been developing on top of the drivers side front rust tower for several years. having just taken auto classes became aware that this IS a problem that affects safety. dealers have not mentioned it in the past (while under rust protection warranty). the car IS running fine presently, but this IS going to be a safety issue when the strut tower separates from the rest of the car due to rust. this IS a design flaw for this car. I have been told that IS common. there IS already a tsb on it (23-044-02). the repair will cost $1,000. I have asked chrysler for assistance on it and they will not provide any. I have not had the repair work done yet. there IS no date of incident, this has existed for at least 5 years, but been unreported. *tr
On 11/05 the dealer replaced the master cylinder because it was leaking. I now notice it IS leaking again. The fire wall IS all rusted, I don't know what damage IS being done from the fluid dripping down. *tr
Airbag light stays on horn does not work bad struts, loud struts sounds. *tr
Serpentine belt comes off while driving in or after a rain or after snow melts, wet road conditions. this belt controls the power steering and IS almost impossible to steer, except straight. the females in my family can not control this vehicle. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chrysler voyager. while driving 15 mph, the fan belt disengaged when driving through a puddle of water. the vehicle lost power. the dealer replaced the fan belt. the failure occurred on two occasions. the dealer stated that the water would cause the fan belt to hydroplane. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 119,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 chrysler voyager. while driving 25 mph, the front air bags deployed without warning or an impact. a police report was filed. the driver was rushed to the emergency room because his eyes were burning and his vision was limited. the vehicle was towed to his residence. the current and failure mileages were 110,000.
Serpentine belt repeatedly comes off. replacing idler pulley, tensioner pulley, and belt remedies the situation for 6 months or so. the problem IS so prominent in other vehicles with the same engine that gates and goodyear sell a kit that will permanently fix chrysler's goof up. failure results in loss of power steering and loss of battery charging. vehicle continues to run until the battery dies. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2000 plymouth voyager. when the roads were wet and the contract drove through standing water the serpentine belt would slip off the vehicle. the failure mileage was 39876. the vehicle was towed to a dealer four times, and the dealer replaced the belt. however, he could not diagnose the cause. the current mileage was 78904. *ak
TL*- the contact called regarding the 2000 plymouth voyager. the contact stated that the vehicle was involved in a recall for the clock spring. after the recall repair was done the horn stopped working, and the vehicle did not have power when accelerating. the contact took the vehicle back to daimler chrysler ,where the recall work was done, and the dealer refused to diagnose the vehicle. The dealer stated they performed the required recall repairs. the contact took the vehicle to another diamler chrysler dealer and once she told them she had recall repairs done on the clock spring the dealer refused to work on the vehicle, and told the contact to take the vehicle back to the original dealer who performed the work. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000, the current mileage was 70000. *ak
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
The driver air bag clockspring can develop an open-circuit condition resulting in nonfunctional driver-side frontal air bag, horn, cruise control (if equipped), and/or steering wheel radio control (if equipped).in its october 5, 2004 letter to nhtsa, daimlerchrysler stated that it will conduct a safety recall and replace the clockspring assembly on all my 1998.5-2000 daimlerchrysler minivans, built between march 1998 and august 2000, with 70,000 miles or less.it will also provide a lifetime warranty for this component on my 1998.5-2000 minivans, regardless of mileage.the details of the corrective action are described in daimlerchrysler's letter (see recall no. 04V-480).the agency believes that further expenditure of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists with respect to those vehicles covered only by the lifetime warranty.the agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances.see page 2 for additional information.
