Remedy

Loss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Remedy
Affinia (brake parts, inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. the recall began on march 20, 2006. owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.
On certain minivans, the driver's air bag may become disabled due to a failure of the clockspring, which IS located in the hub of the steering wheel.

This condition will manifest itself through illumination of the air bag warning lamp, and could eventually result in a driver's air bag open circuit, if the part IS not replaced in a reasonable amount of time.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the clockspring assembly on all covered vehicles with 70,000 miles or less. for those vehicles with more than 70,000 miles, daimlerchrysler will offer an extended lifetime warranty under which it will replace the clockspring at no charge if it fails. daimlerchrysler will also reimburse owners who have paid to have the clockspring replaced on their vehicles. the recall began on october 12, 2004. owners should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Certain aftermarket replacement fuel filters, models wix filter part numbers 33576, 33577, 33734; napa filter part numbers 3576, 3577, 3734; and carquest filter part numbers 86576, 86577, 86734 used on 1996-2000 daimlerchrysler town & country, dodge caravan, and plymouth voyager vehicles, can cause the fuel lines to leak.

Aftermarket replacement fuel filters for 1995-2000 short wheelbase chrysler town & country, plymouth voyager and dodge caravan minivans part no. 18232 and date code 0237, 0249, or 0252. replacement fuel filters for 1995-2000 long wheelbase chrysler town & country, plymouth voyager and dodge caravan minivans part no. 18230 and date code 0237, 0249, 0251, or 0304. replacement fuel filters for 2001-2004 chrysler town & country, plymouth voyager and dodge caravan minivans part no. 28871 and date code 0249. these part numbers and date codes appear on the gold-tone filter. distributors and retailers will be notified to isolate and return affected inventory. owners who have had the fuel filter serviced on one of the applicable vehicles after september 17, 2002 should return their vehicle to the service facility to be inspected to see if the fuel filter that was installed IS one that IS involved in the recall. if so, the owners should have the filter replaced. to receive a full refund plus the cost of postage, owners should cut the connectors from the hoses, rinse the connectors and return them together with proof of the amount paid for the replacement part and labor, to intercontinental at intercontinental auto parts, inc., p.o. Dealers will install a seal on the vehicle fuel rails to prevent external leakage of fuel from the fuel rail crossover tube, should the existing o-rings continue to degrade. owner notification began on january 25, 2002. due to the large quantity of vehicles involved in this campaign, the owner notification will be phased over the next several months. however, if a vehicle IS leaking fuel from the o-rings, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

Cause of the collision was due to the other involved vehicle, that being a 2011 KIA soul, failing to stay within its travel lane. The KIA crossed over into the path of the plymouth voyager, with both vehicles colliding, front/left vs front/left. Speeds of both vehicles estimated at approximately 40 miles per hour. Both air bags in the KIA deployed, as did the front/passenger airbag in the plymouth voyager. The driver's airbag in the plymouth voyager failed to deploy, unknown why. Both drivers sustained injuries in the collision. The collision was investigated by the montgomery township police department, phone 215-362-2301, police report #2016-00578.

I own a 1998 plymouth voyager. at the time of the first incident the vehicle had approximately 80,000 miles on it. while driving I noticed that a number of warning lights suddenly appeared and that all of the gauges were not operating on the dash. the vehicle was brought to scap jeep/plymouth/dodge dealership in fairfield ct. the technician said that he had no clue what it was and that he would have to trace each wire and it would include numerous man hours. he also suggested replacing the main computer. if I wanted to have them fix it I would have to make another appointment. I found that the vehicle operated just fine, just could not tell mph, mileage, auto door locks failed and airbag, anti lock brakes, in addition to all other gauges. three days later all returned to normal for a few weeks and then a repeat. the problem continued with no pattern for the next few years. dealership claimed it was computers. in speaking with my local mechanic, he had another customer with same type vehicle and same problem. this customer spent in excess of $2000 at the dealership and problem still persisted. the local mechanic opened the dash and immediately found a wire that was partially broken free from a harness. he pushed the wire completely into receiver and problem solved. due to wire being frayed, he went to local junk yard to get a used harness end and replaced said piece. same problem was found with our vehicle. wire was fixed and the entire job was less than 1 hour of labor. have had no problems since. plymouth has issued no recalls or even any alerts of the problem to its dealerships. in phone calls to customer service they claim that there IS no problem. I do not believe that two vehicles in the same town are the only ones to experience this problem and hope that you look into this issue and order any recalls necessary. *tr

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the body control modular was destroyed. The manufacturer stated that the failure was not a safety issue. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for repairs per the above mentioned recall; however, he was told the clock spring assembly part was on backorder and would not be available for a month. The failure and current mileages were 183,000. The vin was not available.

This over the years has cost me untold amounts of time and money. The dash shuts off completely while driving, even though we have had everything replaced. Wipers do what they choose, if we leave them on they stay off.if we turn them off they go on. We have no dash what so ever, unable to ascertain speed in the middle of driving. Numerous times the vehicle has just shut down when coming to a stop. Radio and cd player works and doesn't at variable times. We have had all of this looked at numerous times and no one knows what to do they just make educated guesses and hope it fixes it. We have spent far too much money on this issue. The door locks work sporadic. On occasions we will lose just part of the instrument panel and have half still. For example we have lost speed odometer and gas and kept he rest. This car IS a lemon and a pending death trap. There IS never any kind of warning to owners, I am told to replace the main computer over and over. Being as its the main computer for the vehicle it also over sees many other operations of the vehicle and can cause numerous other things to happen which we may never know of until said conditions require that action and it IS not present. *Tr

As an investigator assigned to the california highway patrol, multidisciplinary accident investigation team (mait) in sacramento, and as directed by the mait operations manual, this IS to notify nhtsa/odi of the verified failure of a safety restraint system in a vehicle involved in a severe-injury traffic collision. on september 2, 2009, a 1998 plymouth voyager was involved in a collision in san joaquin county, ca. the registered owner/sole occupant in the voyager sustained injury when his vehicle collided into the rear of a 1999 chevrolet tahoe, at speed. the principal direction of force was essentially from front-to-rear through the plymouth and the frontal damage was equally distributed across the full width of the vehicle. the front passenger's srs deployed, and the driver's srs did not. the driver of the plymouth was restrained by his seat belt. A query of the nhtsa website indicated the plymouth was subject to recall under nhtsa campaign 04v-480, and daimler chrysler recall no. D17. the recall was the subject of ea04-013 of the odi. a local dodge dealer confirmed the vehicle was part of the group under recall and had not undergone correction of the condition despite records of mailed notifications to the registered owner, of valley springs, ca. the driver of the plymouth made no statement regarding the status of the srs warning indicator lamp prior to the collision, which IS under investigation by the stockton area of the california highway patrol. valley davison mait's preliminary investigation indicates that the driver?s srs components were in place on the vehicle. mait will not conduct a failure analysis investigation, as the matter IS civil, not criminal, in nature. a report of the mait findings will follow. officer c.m. Have had numerous things replaced bcm, starter, wiring harness, sensors etc. problem continues to come back eventually. has to be a chrysler defect. I had one dealership deny awareness of a problem with that year minivan and some say "you can try this for 1,000 dollars but it may only work for awhile. This should fall under the lemon law most repairs made only lasted a few months. No repairs have lasted more than a year. Please help...i love my vehicle otherwise but have no money to make further repairs or to buy a new vehicle. I started having this problem in october of 2006 and have been dealing with this off and on ever since. My van will not crank now and I have only had the latest bcm since october 2008. *Tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1998 plymouth voyager. when the vehicle IS turned off, the headlights remain illuminated and occasionally activate automatically. the failure was noticed while driving 15 mph and it drains the battery. the dealer stated that there were no recalls available and the repair was the contact's responsibility. nhtsa campaign ID number 99v116000 (exterior lighting:headlights) for the 1999 plymouth voyager was referenced. the current mileage was 94,000 and failure mileage was 90,000.

The driver air bag clockspring can develop an open-circuit condition resulting in nonfunctional driver-side frontal air bag, horn, cruise control (if equipped), and/or steering wheel radio control (if equipped).in its october 5, 2004 letter to nhtsa, daimlerchrysler stated that it will conduct a safety recall and replace the clockspring assembly on all my 1998.5-2000 daimlerchrysler minivans, built between march 1998 and august 2000, with 70,000 miles or less.it will also provide a lifetime warranty for this component on my 1998.5-2000 minivans, regardless of mileage.the details of the corrective action are described in daimlerchrysler's letter (see recall no. 04V-480).the agency believes that further expenditure of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists with respect to those vehicles covered only by the lifetime warranty.the agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances.see page 2 for additional information.

This investigation was opened january 16, 2002, based on seven reports alleging the third row seat belt retractors failed on certain 1997 and 1998 model year caravan and voyager vehicles.the reports indicated a tar like substance entered the retractor mechanism, thus causing the retractor to jam or bind.in this condition the seat belt IS rendered inoperable, as the webbing cannot retract or be withdrawn from the retractors for use.recall scope:the affected vehicles are 1997 through 1999 dodge caravan, plymouth voyager, and chrysler town & contry built on a short wheel base chassis.the inclusive dates of production are june 1996 through october 31, 1999.recall remedy: daimlerchrysler dealers will replace the mastic sound barrier patches with foam blockers, as well as, inspect and replace all third row rear seat belt assemblies contaminated by the mastic patch.
