If the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant, debris and moisture that get into the switch may cause a short circuit and the switch assembly may overheat and melt, increasing the risk of a fire.
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the switch, applying a lubricant if no abnormality is found. If abnormality is found, the PWMS circuit board will be replaced, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin December 20, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's number for this recall is C0M.

The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the…
If the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire.
Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Toyota IS recalling certain model year 2004-2010 passenger vehicles. the accelerator pedal can get stuck in the wide open position due to its being trapped by an unsecured or incompatible driver's floor mat.
A stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop the vehicle, which could cause a crash, serious injury or death.
Toyota filed an amended defect report on november 25, 2009, stating that dealers will modify the accelerator pedal and, on certain vehicles, alter the shape of the floor surface under the pedal. these changes address the risk of pedal entrapment due to interference with the floor mat. redesigned accelerator pedals will become available beginning in april 2010 and dealers will replace any modified pedal with the new pedal if desired. also, dealers will replace any genuine toyota or lexus all-weather floor mats with redesigned all-weather mats, or repurchase the previous mats from owners who do not want the new ones. additionally, software modifications will be installed on camry, avalon and lexus ES 350, IS 350 and IS 250 models that will ensure that the brake overrides the accelerator in the event both brake and accelerator pedals are applied. toyota will begin mailing letters to owners on december 31, 2009. owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331, lexus at 1-800-255-3987.

A while back I was driving on a residential street my vsc message came on and I notice a jerk in the tires if it was sliding, so I immediately pulled over turned the vehicle off hoping it could be a sensor failure so after sitting for 5 mins I turned the car back on notice the message wasn't there anymore I then begin to drive the vehicle for a good 5 mins and the car did the exact thing vsc message came back on the car begun to feel like it was sliding so I pulled over again sat about 10mins this time, turned the car on the message wasn't there I start driving 5 mins later the same exact thing happened again.
As I was driving a loud noise came on inside the car my ABS light and brake light came on and then my brakes failed almost causing a huge wreck and from what I have read it IS the ABS accutator or brake accutator which I guess IS the same thing but apparently a lot of the toyota camry hybrids are having this issue where the breaks are failing and causing accidents but yet there are no recalls for it and apparently the part cost 2,900 from toyota which IS insane when it should be a recall because it's a major safety issue
My car will not let me accelerate past 40mph. Once I do pass 40mph my check engine light and check hybrid system light comes on and the car shuts down right after. This IS all when driving the vehicle. The first time happened on the highway when I went 65 and it cut straight out.
Check vsc system as well as ABS and tire lights come on. Known issue with toyota. Had a maintenance program, but won't help me because it didn't start to occur until 1 month after expiration date. They don't send notifications. You have to wait until the problem occurs which could be after it causes an accident!
Vehicle was in motion going straight on a city street, and "check vsc system" notification turned on. Brake light, ABS light, and (!) all came on. Brakes became shaky when pressed.
TL* the contact owns a 2007 toyota camry hybrid. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle jerked. In addition, the traction control, emergency brake, and vehicle stability control warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to toyota chula vista (650 main st, chula vista, ca 91911, (619) 591-0900) who stated that the vehicle was not covered under the extended warranty and provided a repair quote. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 204,000.
Few days ago while driving - the warning "check vsc system" indicator came on with four warning lights - brakes, exclamation traction control, ABS and skid control. Suddenly brakes started acting strangely and soft and jerky. took the vehicle to fred anderson toyota and after diagnostic test was told that it IS code 1392 which requires replacement of ABS control module (the cost to replace was quoted as $2875.37 - we declined to get it fixed. called toyota customer service - they reviewed my complaint but declined to help.
I got in my vehicle today in the vsc light came on. I have researched over google, and everything points to a $3,000 repair, or a recall repairable by toyota. I would like to see if I am eligible for that recall repair.
Brakes did not activate, went very soft and pushed to the floor. "Check vsc system" message, brake light, traction control light, and another light (in attached image) all came on after the brakes gave out. I was able to use the emergency brake to stop the car off the side of the road. Turn the car off and back on. Brakes worked again, but all of the warnings are still on. Also, seems like the it's just regular brakes and anti-lock system IS not working.
Sometimes after starting the vehicle it won't move to drive or back up. this happens three to four times already since 2009 or after it IS in a parking position and change direction the steering wheel lost control or direction this happen 2X already.
Check vsc & hybrid system lights went on and now my brakes are acting funny.
Wife and kids were coming home and brakes went to the floor and ABS lights came on. Took the car to a mechanic and mechanic stated to contact toyota for open recall and service campaign. Toyota IS no help whatsoever
Was driving when my brakes went soft and my vsc warning popped up on my dashboard .never had a issue with car till now.i have about 160K miles on it.looked online and looks like a lot of people are having the same issues with there car.
My vehicle's brakes failed resulting in rear-ending the car in front. This happened on a freeway going straight at 10 am. My vehicle was moving at about 20 miles/ hr when I stepped forcefully on the brake pedal as the car in front of me slowed but I did not lurch forward, my seat belt did not tighten to pull me back and my bag pack that was on the front passenger leather seat stayed where it was. My vehicle behaved as if I had not braked. When I stepped on the brakes, I could see asphalt between my vehicle and the vehicle in front. my vehicle's front bumper, grill and hood was damaged. The vehicle immediately in front of mine had dents on the rear bumper and the trunk. There was a third vehicle in front of the one in front of mine that was also damaged, however, I do not know the extent of the damage. The impact occurred at a low speed which did not cause my seat belt to tighten and did not cause my backpack on the passenger seat to slide forward.
I was driving my vechicle yesterday that was just in the shop since saturday saying that they replaced everything that was wrong because previously my breaks locked up on I-95 and I couldn't stop. I got the vechicle back yesterday and I was driving home from work and my breaks failed again causing me to rear end the person in front of me. I could not stop. Absolutely no breaks!! The vechicle was in motion trying to come to a complete stop. I believe the ABS break aculator / module in the vechicle IS bad. The company whom I bought it from I believe should take responsibility for this accident considering they're the ones who stated they fixed the vechicle
Driving on freeway, power steering went out. Ps light came on pulled over, turned car off for few min, started it up and worked ok. It's hppeed 6 times so far.
I was crossing an intersection after the vehicle on my left stopped. A ford pickup came barreling out of nowhere, swerving around the other vehicle. I believe the driver was going faster than he claimed on the police report (included). We collided in the intersection front-left-to-front-right. My car was spun around about `50 degrees to the right, ending up across the sidewalk. Both vehicles were totaled. The olther driver's airbag deployed and he received a cut on his forehead. my takata front and sidecurtain airbags did not deploy, and I was thrown into the driver's door, breaking four ribs, a vertebra, shoulder blade and my collarbone. In the rebound to the right, my right wrist and right arm just above the wrist were broken. The fractures were set under anesthesia, and I spent 8 days in the hospital and about 7 weeks in a convalescent/rehab facility. I am now undergoing weekly ot for weakness, lack of mobility, and pain in my right hand and wrist, and poor mobility and pain in my right shoulder.
ABS module IS constantly cycling . vcs light and brake light are on. the brakes are soft. the repair IS aprox 3K dollars
ABS actuator IS broken, there wan an extended warranty on the hybrids up until 150,000 miles.
I had taken my car to a dealership to get my brakes and rotors changed ,around september of 2018, about a week later the traction light would come on whenever I stepped on the brakes . I took the car back to the place where I had gotten the brakes done and they said there was nothing wrong. I finally took my car to another mechanic, so they could diagnose the car , when I got back my car, the vsc, traction ,and brake lights were on. They claimed it was the ABS module.
My car has all of the light on dashboard IS on and on screen it says "check vsc system"
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
On June 25, 2014, Toyota initiated a Warranty Enhancement Program (ZE1) to extend warranty coverage for the brake actuator assembly and skid control ECU/brake pedal stroke sensor in certain MY 2007 to 2011 Toyota Camry hybrid vehicles. Toyota's program covers repairs related to two conditions:internal malfunctions of the Brake Actuator assembly; and overly sensitive monitoring logic for the Brake Pedal Stroke Sensor.Primary coverage provides warranty enhancement until November 30, 2015, with no mileage limitation. After the primary coverage period ends, secondary coverage is provided for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the date of first use, whichever occurs first. In addition, on July 10, 2014, Toyota initiated Limited Service Campaign E0U to replace the Brake Reservoir Tank in MY 2007 through 2011 Toyota Camry hybrid vehicles. The LSC will be available until June 30, 2017, and will only be available at an authorized Toyota dealer.ODI's analysis of failure data determined that the majority of records were related to the Brake Actuator condition, which appeared to be the causal component in 734 complaints/field reports and 864 warranty claims. The Brake Pedal Stroke Sensor (80 reports/189 claims) and Brake Reservoir Tank (91 reports/44 claims) conditions were identified in far fewer records.Analysis of the failure data indicate that each condition provides warning prior to any reduction in power assisted braking, with less than 10 percent of all reports and claims involving diagnostic codes or complaint narratives indicating increased braking effort or reduced brake effectiveness. In addition, most of the incidents in which reduced braking assist appears to have occurred involved operation in a reduced assist mode and not a sudden, complete loss of power assisted braking.ODI assessed reduced assist mode in a subjective driving evaluation which indicated that the brake system provided normal and harddeceleration capability with reasonable increases in pedal effort.Less than one percent of reports and claims analyzed by ODI included evidence indicating a complete loss of power assisted braking occurred and this mode requires operation for a significant period of time with multiple audible and visual warnings.Repair expense was cited in many of the complaints reviewed by ODI, especially those related to the Brake Actuator, which had repair costs exceeding $3,000 according to some complaints.High repair cost appears to have been a factor in the only crash identified by ODI for the fault conditions identified by Toyota, which involved a Brake Actuator failure that was diagnosed but the owner declined repair approximately eight months prior to the reported crash incident. This preliminary evaluation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding that a safety-related defect does not exist. For additional information regarding this investigation, including analysis of the Brake Actuator, Brake Pedal Stroke Sensor, and Brake Reservoir Tank fault conditions and failure experience, see Attachment A to this closing resume.
