Toyota Motor Engineering & manufacturing North America, Inc. (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Camry and Camry HV, model year 2013 Avalon and Avalon HV and model year 2014 Corolla vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the windshield wiper switch assembly may short circuit. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of…
A short circuit could cause inoperative windshield wipers, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wiper switch assembly, free of charge. The recall began on November 8, 2013. Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
The camry hybrid covered only by warranty enhancement zkk are suffering the same dangers from brake booster pump assembly failures as those toyota covered by toyota safety recalls (D0H & K0L). By excluding camry hybrids with defective brakes from the D0H and K0L safety recalls, toyota IS leaving the owners to helplessly experience life-threatening brake failure or malfunction before toyota will provide the replacement brake components needed to make the vehicle safe. The law requires toyota to prevent the life-threatening dangers of this brake defect before the failure occurs. Toyota's cost-cutting strategies are causing crashes and injuries. injuries and crashes caused by the brake defect explained in this letter have occurred and been reported to the national highway traffic safety administration. Toyota's decision to provide a reactionary, post-failure repair - instead of a preventative safety recall remedy - explains many of the crashes and injuries on nhtsa's safercar.gov website. Below IS a list of relevant complaints from safercar.gov. 'C' indicates a 'crash' and 'i' indicates 'injury': 10681105 (c), 10883971 (c), 10971542 (c), 10664739(c)(i), 10807100 (c), 10794987 (c), 10605988(c), 11154818 (c)(i), 10606258, 10592072, 10967838, 10626061(c), 10604544 (c)(i), 10569158 (c)(i), 11090508 (c)(i), 11057737 (c)(i), 10779877(c)(i), 10722560 (c)(i), 10692225 (c), 10560809 (c), 10523025 (c), 10502158 (c), 10616767 (c), 10641347,10611145, 10596979, 1051996, 11003054, 10597316, 10705883, 10875822, 10510996, 10564619 c1256, c1253, c1252, and c1391 - indicating dangers and noncompliance - are being stored in vehicles excluded from the past safety recalls. *tr
We have had all four door lock actuators replaced... Before 40,000 miles!!! And all within six months of each other...ugh!!! But at least they were under warranty, thank god, because if they weren't, it would have been $1,700. I know this IS a very common problem with toyota products, I guess they just have very weak door lock motors. This IS the order they went out in: drivers, rear passenger, front passenger, and rear driver. Before they actually went out, they would intermittently not work. You could see the door lock indicator trying to move, but it couldn't move all the way into the locked or unlocked position. It seemed to happen when it either was super cold or super hot outside. What was super annoying was if one door lock didn't lock, the entire car unlocked itself. So you would walk away thinking the car was locked, when it really wasn't. Eventually they just quit locking and unlocking all together. Other than that, the car has been flawless. We absolutely love the car, we are toyota people for life! However, I figure if enough people complain about them, toyota will recall them or do some sort of service bulletin for them.
Unauthorized acceleration of the car in a parking lot. The car was in a slow right turn while preparing to park, and the car surged forward without application of the accelerator pedal. Driver headed toward a tree in order to miss a public utility box but a high curb assisted in stopping the vehicle.
The windshield wipers stop working. The switch IS not changing speed. The wipers just stopped in the middle of their movement cycle. The vehicle was in motion under the rain. The driver and passengers were in danger of crash.
Plastic part of the release button broke either after release or when trying to buckle up. It would no longer latch. Under 75K miles on the car and I am only driver.
Car will not start unless I use a battery charger.
I put a suitcase in the trunk on its side. It was touching the inside top of the trunk. In removing the suitcase the spring mechanism , that holds the trunk open, was dislodged. This caused the trunk lid to fall heavily on me.
Driver door lock actuator stopped working 41,000 miles. Purchased car new from toyota dealer. Lease.
When I coming to a slow down or stop on the city street or the highway, I felt the brake pedal loosen up and the car started to roll forward. The car came to stop after I pushed very hard on the pedal 2 to 3 times. This happens most time.
When driving between 40-45 mph, a vehicle ran the stop sign on a side street on to the street my wife was driving on, and she hit the vehicle broadside. her safety belt was securely fastened, however the shoulder portion of the belt gave way, and my wife struck the steering wheel with her chest, pinning her wrist in between herself and the steering wheel. the airbags also did not deploy. *tr

TL* the contact owns a 2014 toyota camry hybrid. While driving various speeds and depressing the brake pedal attempting to stop, the contact's vehicle would not stop and rear ended another driver. The contact suffered minor injuries to the neck that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was towed to a collision shop where the contact was informed that the brakes were not functioning. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the hydraulic braking system failed and would need to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000. The vin was not available.
I purchased a 2014.5 toyota camry XLE hybrid on november 3, 2014. recently, the vehicle emits a foul order when the air conditioner IS turned on. I took it to a local dealership who tried to tell me that all cars have this problem. I see there IS a class action lawsuit for 2012 model year vehicles, and toyota IS still producing vehicles with this problem. the dealership offered to do a foam clean of the system and install a charcoal filter for the tune of $150 without any guarantee that this would even fix the problem. the smell happens when the vehicle IS in motion, and we are just now coming in to warm weather in my part of the us, so that's why I'm noticing the smell at this time.
Rear view mirror, night time driving, viewing of vehicles approaching from rear IS distorted by the bright image that appears in the mirror. This make driving unsafe as your eyes have to readjust to viewing the roadway ahead of you. Plus it makes it very difficult to judge the distance between your vehicle and the vehicle behind yours.
TL* the contact owns a 2014 toyota camry hybrid. While driving 75 mph with the cruise control activated, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure recurred shortly afterwards. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,300. The vin was not available.

I was exiting off the highway and approaching an intersection. Although my foot was depressing the brake, the vehicle did not slow at all. I pressed the brake a lot harder and the ABS activated. *tr this IS a hybrid vehicle and the braking IS different than with regular cars. vehicle was taken to toyota very shortly afterwards. They said they found nothing and that the brakes were in good working order. This was the only incident.
At approximately 10:30 am, on 3/10/2015, while my wife was making the final approach (approximately 5 ft.) to a parking spot at the mill bakery, navoo, il; she experienced an unintended vehicle acceleration. The hybrid car was running on its electric motor when my wife began to step on the brake to slow the car to a stop. While braking, the car turned on the gas engine and accelerated with enough speed to leave leave rubber tire marks on the parking surface. The car jumped the parking barrier and damaged the lower portion of the right-front bumper. My wife continued to step on the brake and was able to stop the car. When my wife returned to our home in missouri on 3/11/2015, I reported this problem to the toyota company, my local dealer and insurance company. *tr

This IS a copy of my safety complaint to consumer report magazine regarding potentially fatal flaw in toyota hybrid camry cars. I am writing this to express my strong disappointment in cr's shoddy car reviews, in this case, hybrid camry. not once has your reviews of this car mentioned the major and potentially fatal flaw in this car when driving it at night: the headlights of the cars behind seen in the rear view mirror are distorted, making it nearly impossible for the driver to correctly judge distance or relative position of the cars approaching from behind. instead, one sees a blurred window of parallel, intertwining, and confusing rays of light. It makes changing lanes nearly impossible and driving on a busy highway at night, especially when it IS raining, extremely dangerous and terrifying. I believe that this car need to be recalled and fixed as soon as possible. To that end, I am sending a copy of this email to the department of consumer safety and the headquarters for the toyota company. *tr
Since I have bought this vehicle since january 2014, I have experienced steady deterioration of driver seat leather cushionness. Right now it has decreased by one and half inch to two inches. I have filed a case file #1407011080 with toyota on july 1, and visited dealer to get my seat examined, but toyota has not replaced my driver seat. I have even contacted toyota customer service two times both via email on july 14 and phone call on july18. But there IS no response or not even a simple follow up. Due to very less cushionness in my driver seat, I am experiencing pain in my legs and hips.please have toyota fix this issue asap by replacing vehicle seats. *js
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
On September 19, 2019, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a defect petition from Mr. Roger Hogan requesting that the Agency investigate and recall certain Toyota Prius, Prius PHV, Camry Hybrid and Avalon Hybrid vehicles for a brake actuator valve wear condition covered under Toyota Customer Support Programs ZJB and ZKK (subject CSP?s). In support of his request, the petitioner identified 117 NHTSA complaints allegedly related to the subject CSP condition, including 60 reporting crashes. On September 30, 2019, ODI opened Defect Petition DP19-004 to evaluate the petitioner?s request for an investigation. In August 2020, the petitioner notified the Agency that he was withdrawing his petition. Because the petitioner has withdrawn the petition, we are denying the petition as moot and no further analysis of this petition is necessary.NHTSA is authorized to issue an order requiring notification and remedy of a defect if the Agency?s investigation shows a defect in the design, construction, or performance of a motor vehicle that presents an unreasonable risk to safety. 49 U.S.C. ?? 30102(a)(9), 30118. Because the petitioner has with withdrawn the petition, the petition is denied as moot. This action does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The Agency notes that it is not required to receive a defect petition prior to opening a defect investigation and will take further action if warranted by future circumstances.
