When I started driving the truck the dash was just cracked up then I had to change the heater core and while putting the dash back in it broke all up and now there are sharp edges all across the top at this time the truck was parked and the yard but now how it IS while driving I have to hold the radio and the gauges back
Vehicle was off and parked in driveway, upon entry the next morning found a smoldering fire and a burned ignition/steering column w/ extensive fire damage. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1995 dodge RAM 1500. The contact noticed a fuel odor coming from the vehicle while parking. He then noticed fuel leaking from the top rollover valve. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 205,000.
The dash started cracking about 4 months ago, and then started breaking into sharp, jagged pieces that jump out at me when driving down the road, and the truck has hit any kind of uneven road or bump. Not only IS it very distracting, but the pieces are very sharp.
Dash IS cracking everywhere. Also the vin plate has also fallen and cannot be read by police and or state patrol. This IS now an issue because of that and the sharp pieces that keep falling off.
TL* the contact owns a 1995 dodge RAM 1500. The contact stated that the dealer (bert ogden chrysler dodge jeep RAM, 8421 w expy 83, harlingen, tx 78552, (956) 734-2462) inspected the vehicle and indicated that the vapor canister purge valve needed to be replaced; however, the part was no longer in production. The contact was unable to determine if the manufacturer would be able to provide the part for the dealer to complete the repair. In addition, the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 00v135000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was contacted to determine a solution. The failure mileage was unknown.
Dash board crumbles, we have looked to find another dash board and found out this IS a problem, almost a joke, we have been told it's a dodge dash board.. They all do this. I believe it's a safety issue if the truck were involved in a mvc then the pieces of the dash would become flying objects.. And injury any one sitting in the truck. We have owned several dodge caravans and never had a problem like this or seem such an across the board problem with so many vechlies. Dodge needs to offer a replacement a fix.. Before the worst happens.
TL* the contact owns a 1995 dodge RAM 1500. While the vehicle was stationary, the headlight switch burned out and caused the headlights to become inoperative. The dealer replaced the ignition switch, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 264,000.
The dash on my 1995 dodge RAM 1500 IS broken into pieces and getting worse I am worried about wires shorting out and causeing a fire and also the paint IS almost gone from the roof and hood of the truck I have seen both issuses on many other dodge trucks and think something should be done to compensate owners for the cost of repaires to there trucks its not our fault its a manufacture defect
TL* the contact owns a 1995 dodge RAM 1500. When the vehicle was shifted into the reverse position, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle failed to reverse. The contact shifted back to neutral and then to reverse, and the vehicle reversed. While driving at approximately 45 mph, the vehicle started to shift without being prompted. The failures recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 97v084000 (power train). The failure mileage was approximately 125,000. The vin was unavailable.
The dash and lower dash bezel in my truck are crumbling more and more every day. Pieces fall of if you hit a bump in the road. The cup holders are no longer functional because of this and if it continues like it IS the gauge cluster will no longer be held in place. Ontop of all this if the vehicle were involved in a wreck where the air bags deployed the passenger would get a face full of plastic shards from the dash ( what little IS left of it) resulting in injury and possible blindness.dodge has plenty of resources and money to fix this issue. Yes the vehicle IS 20 years old and out of warranty but there are plenty of vehicles much older with solid dashes still in one piece. Dodge claims this IS just cosmetic but as broken as mine its become more than that. Im sure they would rather pay to have some dashes replaced with better materials than a lawsuit when someone IS injured by the defective plastic.
A male driver was coming to a stop on a paved surface and before he stopped completely the air bag deployed and injured the driver. No other vehicles or objects were near the truck when the air bag deployed and he did not slam on the brakes.
I was working and a couple of employees came in yelling the my truck was on fire.the keys was out of the vehicle yet a electrical fire started under the steering column burning all the drivers side dash. Craked the front windshield and bubbled it up. It took less then 10 min to do all of it if it wasn't for people at my work there IS no telling what would have happened.
Filled up the fuel tank with gas and it just started running on the ground for about a few minutes. *tr
Dashboard has significant cracks. These cracks run from the windshield to front of dash (plastic parts) the failure of the integrity of the dashboard could lead to corrosion of wires and other safety components that are under the dashboard. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1995 dodge RAM 1500. While driving at an unknown speed, the headlights failed without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was experiencing the same failure specified in nhtsa campaign number: 99v024000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
While driving to work...at approx 40mph my low beam head lights went out and smoke came out of the of the dash board to the left of the steering wheel...i was able to shut everything down and no other damage was caused however after getting the truck home it was discovered that the headlight switch had over heated and melted down after my experience and other reports I have read online I would like to ask that nhtsa campaign number: 99v024000 be updated to include 1500 models as well. *tr
This has not only happened to me!! I have seen from repair shops that this IS a regular thing. The timing cover will start leaking at seam with block. At the chanel where water goes to waterpump. The metal there gets ate up by the antifreeze and thins the wall till there IS a cupped out place at the seam . The aluminum gets eroded there. I have never seen this happen on any other car. 5.9 liter V8, 360 cubicinch engine. The metal there has to be substandard!! it IS not the gasket but the timing cover that IS defective. It will cause the engine to run hot. The timing cover IS sub standard. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1995 dodge RAM 1500. The contact stated there were two major cracks in the center of the dashboard that extended to the drivers side. Also, the contact stated that when the headlights were illuminated the dashboard would emit smoke. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the light switch box, pigtail connector and the entire dashboard needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 168,356.

I own a 1995 dodg RAM 1500 pick-up.. I was driving at a speed of 50mph when I wanted to come to a stop I almost didnt stop and nearlly crashed into someone luckly I was able to swerve and not hit them, my brakes had almost failed.. I get home and look under my truck for leaks in brake lines, I find that my line was cracked right under neath were the back of the cab meets the front bed of the truck.. The line runs on top of the frame and right below the bed of the truck to me it seems like the line IS not supported well and do to maybe from bouncing up and down in the line caused wear and tear on the line from the metal on the bottom of the bed of the truck.. I have seen numerous staements from peole on the internet haveing same issues also and nearly crashing, I feel there should be a recall of some sort on this issue and be taking care of before someone else crashes and possibly killing or hurting another person.. Now I have to spend $200.00 to get it fixed with money I dont have.. Seriously something needs to be done about this... Also my brake lines are excellent all around the truck and have no rust.. *tr

I have a 95 dodge RAM the dash IS cracked all over, hasn't been a big problem until now because I have to replace the heater core and its behind the dash just recently while driving at night pieces of the dash fell off and my heat stoped until I got the pieces out.. Called dodge said it was my problem because there isnt a recall, told me to buy a new one that IS made out of the same stuff for 300.00 bucks .there IS a big problem with these dashes maybe a recall will come in effect after some one dies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
Dash cover has cracked leaving sharp edges and dangerous exposure to underdash components. *tt
My 1995 dodge RAM 1500 has the same faulty switch that the 3500 model has, but dodge will not cover it because you have not yet forced them to. This faulty switch causes the head lights to go out with out notice for good or it will just allow them to flicker on and off.. It also has the possibility to melt down and cause a fire. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Odi has identified 30 incidents where it IS alleged the seat back collapsed in a rear impact crash.these incidents are alleged to have contributed to 23 injuries and two deaths.the data presented to odi show that the seat back strength of the front seats comply with federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 207. Seating system.according to daimlerchrylser the front seats were designed to collapse rearward in rear impact crashes as part of the energy absorptioncapabilities of the seating system to reduce the chance of serious injury to the occupant.rates of occurance were compared to peer vehicles, and it was shown that the performace of the subject vehicle was comparable to those vehicles.in view of the forgoing, it IS unlikely that nhtsa would issue an order for the notification remedy of a safety defect in the subject vehicles as defined by the petitioner at the conclusion of the investigation requested in the petition.therfore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize the nhtsa's limited resources to best accomplish the agency's mission, the petition IS denied.for further details, refer to odi's response to the petition published in the federal register vol.69, no. 60 , dated march 29, 2004.
Mr. Larry a. Sackey submitted a petition to the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) by letter dated april 18, 2003, requesting that nhtsafurther investigate the defective collapsible steering shaft system on 1987-1995 vehicles manufactured by the daimlerchrysler corporation.in part because of 49 cfr ? 30120(G), nhtsa has decided to limit the scope of the petition vehicles to 1993-1995 models, excluding the 1993 jeep grand cherokee and 1994-1995 dodge RAM series trucks that were recalled (93v210 & 96v230) for steering column failure.if the analysis of these vehicles had identified a potential problem, the scope could have been expanded in an investigation.a review of odi's data base shows no recent complaints and a lack of a complaint trend concerning the subject issue on the subject vehicles as a whole or by individual models.therefore, the petition IS denied.for details, see federal register notice volume 68, no. 130, july 8, 2003.
The headlamp switch in the subject vehicles can over-heat and fail resulting in loss of head lamps and possibly other lights.daimlerchrysler conducted a series of tests and determined that the 3500 series IS prone to generating head lamp switch temperatures in excess of the switch lubricant threshold of 100 degrees centigrade.when this occurs, the lubricant solidifies and adheres to the switch contach surfaces increasing internal resistance and therfore, temperature.daimlerchrysler informed the nhtsa that it would initiate a recall of 79,3665 model year 1994-1997 dodge 3500 series RAM trucks only based on additional testing from which it determined that the 1500/2500 series vehicles nominally operate significantly below the temperature threshold of the switch lubricant.owners of 1500/2500 series trucks were sent a notification letter advising of the proper methods for adding aftermarket lighting accessories.
Steering box output (pitman) shaft breakage resulting in loss of control.
