As a result, the fuse IS located in the output circuit rather than in the intended input power feed circuit, and may not offer the intended protection in the event of an electrical short to ground.
Dealers will install a new wiring harness, or replace the mating electrical component. the recall began on february 18, 2008. owners may contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.
On certain pickup trucks, passenger vehicles, sport utility vehicles, and motor homes chassis, the speed control deactivation switch may, under certain conditions, leak internally and then overheat, smoke, or burn.
This could result in an underhood fire.
Dealers will install a fused wiring harness. owners of the passenger cars included in this campaign will be instructed to return their vehicles to their dealers to have the speed control deactivation switch disconnected as an interim repair. as soon as repair parts are available (expected october 2007), owners will be instructed to return to the dealers for installation of a fused wiring harness. the recall began on august 13, 2007, and mailing completed by september 19, 2007. owners may contact ford at 1-888-222-2751.
On certain natural gas vehicles, if a flame from a vehicle interior fire becomes locally directed at the natural gas fuel tank located immediately behind the rear seat, the flame could damage the fiberglass wrap on the tank weakening the tank.
If the strength of the tank IS significantly compromised, it could rupture, increasing the risk of a fire.
Dealers will install an insulator behind the current seat back. owner notification began on january 7, 2004. owners should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673.
In order to enhance police office safety, model year 1992-2003 crown victoria police interceptor (cvpi) vehicles will be equipped with shields designed to help protect the fuel tank in high-speed rear-impact crashes. ford also will be offering an optional trunk package designed to improve the safe transport of sharp-edged, heavy equipment in these vehicles.
Some high-speed rear-impact crashes have resulted in fuel tank punctures and fires in cvpi vehicles.
Ford has advised us that shield kits have been available since late october and will be installed on police interceptor vehicles at no cost. the optional trank package will be available by the end of 2002. ford has established a new web site at www.cvpi.com to answer additional questions about the safe use of cpvi vehicles.

If this occurs while the vehicle IS moving, reduced steering control could occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the lower control arm ball joints (2).
This IS not a safety recall in accordance with federal regulation 573. however, it IS deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. ford IS initiating an owner notification program for owners of certain 1995-1997 crown victoria model vehicles with police, taxi, and commercial fleet packages and town car vehicles with the livery package. these…
This could lead to brake fluid loss for the rear brakes and, potentially, increased stopping distances.
Dealers will inspect the brake lines for wear, install two new tube bundle clips, and check the brake lines for proper clearances. if the brake lines are worn, the damaged section of the brake line will be replaced.
Vehicle description: police and taxi vehicles. the hood latch striker can wear or become detached from the hood.
Either of these conditions can result in the hood opening without warning while the vehicle IS being operated impairing the driver's visibility.
Dealers will install an improved hood latch striker (vehicles with 1992 model hoods) or revised striker plate attaching fasteners (vehicles with 1993-1997 model hoods).
The pitman arms were not fully lubricated at the assembly plant. The "ball joint" at the outer end of the pitman arm can become contaminated and corrode.
Such corrosion can result in abnormal wear of the joint, resulting in separation of the joint. Loss of steering control can occur increasing the risk of a vehicle accident.
Dealers will inspect the vehicles and if the joint IS found to have significant wear, the arm will be replaced. Those pitman arms not replaced will have the "ball joint" fully greased.
When in the secondary latched position, the driver door latches may open when subjected to transverse loads less than that specified in fmvss no. 206, "door locks and door retention components."
The driver's door, when closed only to the secondary latched position, may not sustain a 1,000 pound transverse load.
Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the driver door latch.

#1 - I constantly have my engine light on and during 2 inspections I received a safety/emissions recall printout, defect # dr-1209 for mass air flow sensors. both times I have taken it to the local dealer and they claimed there's no recall for it. I just noticed on the nhtsa site, that recalls only go back as far as 1999. they also said that since it's no longer a "police owned" vehicle, they wouldn't fix it. # 2 - I have been getting a constant severe fuel smell that permeates through the car which IS exacerbated with warm weather and or when the car warms up. #3 - there's a constant issue of the car vibrating when being driven at 55 - 60 mph.
TL* the contact owns a 1996 crown victoria. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road. The contact stated that the manifold had failed for the second time in ten years. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The independent mechanic diagnosed that there was a small fracture in the manifold. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufactured was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

I purchase my vehicle on october 24TH, 2011 from a private party who said, "the coolant leak", but the vehicle over heated when I drove it home less than 3 miles away the hood of my car was smoking. After taking it to a local mechanic with my friend who drove his car to ensure my safety, my car began to over heat after driving it for 10 minutes! I was so frantic that I thought I was going to burned up in the car. the mechanic told me the next day it was the intake manifold and inform me that this may be a recall and to check with the ford corporation and I did called ford corporation and found out this vehicle had control cruise harness and a intake manifold recall ID IS 01m02, the dealership for camelback ford in phoenix, mr. Chad mcdowell offer this recall number but his employee [xxx] offer to help me fix the both problems, then later on negated. I feel a recall of any vehicle should never be expired base on these issues of safety and regardless of a settlement that may have been reached, there are millions of people who need to have their vehicle repair to make it at least a whole again as much as possible and avoid a possible injury or death. I found the recall of this intake manifold offering consumer up to $ 750 to repair the car without any receipts? what about the people who purchase the vehicle afterwards, IS that fair. now my concern IS that I am smelling gasoline when I am driving and I believed it may have something to do with the gas line or the sensor, and I hate putting more money into the vehicle. I fear that the mechanic will tell me its going to be a costly matter and it's never going to stop with this car and I just want to get rid of it or have it repair as it should of been by the dealership but the ford company would not approve it. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6).*tr

My 1996 ford crown victoria was being driven a 7 mile drive to church on a sunday morning. the driver of my car noticed the car was going very fast, (approx. 80 miles per hour.) the driver stepped on the brake, but the car would not slow down. After riding the brake for about 4 miles, the panicky driver called a relative for help. the relative told the driver to pull over on the shoulder of the road to get the driver out of the danger of the highway. after holding the brake down for so many miles, the car finally slowed to around 40 miles per hour. our car struck a van trying to make a turn into their church parking lot. our car was filled with smoke and shaking violently before hitting the van. after being examined by two mechanics, our cars acceleration was caused by a faulty cruise control. the car's damages as well as the drivers and passengers mental anguish was tremendous. My car IS still sitting in a body shop parking lot waiting to be repaired. *jb

Dear sir or madam: I am aware of the ford campaign 05n04 regarding the composite intake manifold replacement program. my 1996 crown vic fell to this defect to on 11/20/06 which resulted in a needed replacement using the prescribed ford repair kit. my local ford dealer said the repair program had expired with no reimbursement possible. after soliciting fords comments directly (reply can be forwarded) I interpret their response that part failure, while the same as others, did not happen soon enough and therefore ineligible. in your opinion IS there any recourse to appeal their denial for claim? are you still receiving letters/emails that this IS an ongoing problem? might there be another judgment against them to cover others with this same failure? your help IS appreciated. thank you. *nm updated 02/15/07. *Jb
My wife while traveling to visit her son in a distant city, she pulled into a shopping center to call him, he lived nearby. He came to the shopping center in an effort to lead her to his residence. When leaving she noticed smoke and thought the vehicle caught fire. Further investigation proved it was an ant-ifreeze leak. the failure was the intake manifold produced of an inferior material (nylon) a crack developed at 100614 miles causing the antifreeze to leak out and overheat the engine and cause more damage. within several day the auto went to the repair shop and the intake manifold was replaced a substantial cost. There was no recall present with this event however ford motor company had a class action suit with this event as its center piece. unfortunately the failure on my ford occurred after the class action suit expired. The suit was limited by a time frame. My thought IS all nylon manifold will fail far short of the expectations of the life of the engine. *jb
My intake manifold began leaking approximately 2 days after I bought IT,6 months later it's leaking in a second location. *nm
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
In a letter dated february 25, 2005, ford motor company (ford) notified odi that it would be conducting a customer satisfaction program (ford no. 04B26) to correct a rear brake line chafing concern in approximately 44,000 model year (my) 1997 ford crown victoria and grand marquis non-fleet vehicles equipped with electronic traction control that werebuilt after march 19, 1997.these vehicles have an additional rear brake line and a mastic patch causing reduced clearance from a stiffening rib in the floor pan.odi?s analysis showed higher complaint and warranty rates related to rear brake line failures in this population than in other subject vehicles and peer mid-sized passenger cars that were evaluated during the investigation.vehicles involved in ford?s program will have the rear brake lines inspected for contact with the floor pan stiffing rib.if there IS contact, but no abrasion or leakage, the brake lines will be repositioned.if there IS abrasion or a leak IS evident the brake line will be repaired.if necessary, both of the rear brake lines will be replaced. Though ford does not admit to a safety-defect in the subject components, odi believes that the facts in this investigation show otherwise because the insufficient clearance in the routing of those brake lines may result in leaks in those lines that may result in increased stopping distances.odi IS designating the campaign a safety recall (nhtsa recall no. 05V-086).because of the low rates of brake line failures in the remaining subject vehicles, a safety-related defect has not been identified in those populations and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists in those vehicles.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.for additional information, see the attached closing report.
Odi has received 40 complaints alleging rear brake line failure in the subject vehicles, including 8 that have been received this year.an additional 192 reports and 478 warranty claims have been received from ford.a leak in the rear brake line can cause extended stopping distance.a search of odi's complaint database for peer vehicle complaints, using the same brake line failure criteria as for the subject vehicles and the same model years (1995-97), identified only 1 complaint involving general motors caprice/implala/88/98/regal vehicles and only 2 complaints involving chrysler lh-cars.the investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis to further evaluate the frequency, scope, and causal factors related to rear brake line failures in the subject vehicle population.
In september 2002, a fuel cylinder in a natural gas powered vehicle (ngv) exploded during a fire.ford and vrtc test engineers jointly examined the incident vehicle and reviewed testing to determine whether the performance of the pressure relief valve (prd) was proper.the purpose of a prd IS to protect a compressed natural gas tank from overpressure by allowing the CNG to vent when the temperature reaches a specific point.the prd was removed from the failed tank and subjected to a yield temperature determination test. It was concluded that a direct flame (from the interior of the vehicle) onto the cylinder (located behind the rear seat in the trunk)compromised the hoop strength of the natural gas cylinder, thus allowing the cylinder to fail prior to the prd releasing at itsdesigned temperature.as a result of this testing and review of the involved vehicle, ford has developed an insulator to insulate the natural gas fuel tank from a locally directed flame projecting from the interior of the vehicle.insulators will be installed behind the back seat on subject vehicles to prevent future failures of this type. Ford's action addresses the concerns of odi.therefore, this investigation IS closed.
See attached report.
An explosion of a compressed natural gas (CNG) tank should not be able to occur, as the tank IS fitted with a pressure relief device (prd). This prd should release the CNG in the tank, prior to the pressure reaching the tank burst pressure.the prd did not release in the subject wisconsin police cruiser explosion.nhtsa has recovered the prd valve from the tank that exploded and testing will be necessary to establish why this tank safety valve did not release in the very high temperature fire that occurred in the police cruiser.there IS only the single known event, but due to the catastropic force of such an explosion and the potential for injury and loss of life, this investigation IS being upgraded.
Based on the low rate of fire incidents (2.5 incidents per 100,000 vehicles sold) where failure of the scds IS involved and the age of the vehicles ? 7 to 11 years ? A safety-related defect trend has not been identified and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.for additional information, see the attached closing report.
The fars data shows that the risk of fire from impact in all directions in the subject vehicles IS the same as all other sedans.the subject vehicles are not over represented with respect to the risk of fire in real-world high-energy crashes.a further discussion of issues related to post crash fires in the subject vehicles IS set out in the closing report for sq 01-014 and that report IS in the docket for this petition.after reviewing the petition and its supporting materials, as well as information furnished by ford and gm, and information within the agency's possession from previous investigations and other related actions, nhtsa has concluded that futher investigation concerning post-crash fires in the subject vehicles IS not likely to lead to a decision that the vehicles contain a safety defect.

The driver's seat, of the subject split-seat configuration, IS secured to the vehicle floor pan with four bolts.a single bolt IS located at both the front and rear of each of the two seat tracks.these tracks are located on each side of the seat.if the outboard-forward bolt fails, the seat IS retained by 3 remaining bolts.when retained by 3 bolts, the rearward movement of the left side of the seat back IS limited to approximately 4 inches.this was determined by ford testing and confirmed by odi.this minimal movement should not cause a driver to experience difficulties controlling the vehicle.ford has developed a kit to repair the seat bolt boss, consisting of a large, 3/16 inch thick washer, contoured to fit inside the floor pan seat bolt boss reinforcement.this fix was added to production vehicles in september, 1997.ford IS currently preparting a technical service bulletin, to be sent to both dealer and operators of police vehicles, announcing the availability of the kit for in-sevice repairs.a safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency reserves the right to take further action on these models if warranted by the circumstances.
