4 recalls name the 2004 GMC Yukon XL. Newest first.
Certain federal-mogul replacement wheel hub assemblies with the brand names: national, carquest p/nos. 515020, 515021, 515025, 515053, 515054, 515059, and 515060, shipped between january 23, 2006, and december 20, 2007, sold for light duty and medium duty trucks. the inboard retention nut used to maintain hub bearing assembly can loosen resulting in an ABS…
Wheel separation can result in a vehicle crash.
Federal-mogul will notify customers and will replace the hub assembly free of charge. the recall began on february 7, 2008. owners can contact federal-mogul toll-free at 877-489-6659.
On certain trucks equipped with an 8.1L V8 (rpo l8-vin g) engine have a condition in which the engine fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip may fracture resulting in inadequate retention of the damper.
If the damper comes loose, a fuel leak may result. fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Dealers will replace the engine fuel rail pulse damper retainer clip free of charge. the recall began on august 31, 2006. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 and GMC trucks at 1-866-996-9463.
Certain trucks, sport utility vehicles, and vans equipped with bosch hydro-boost brake assemblies, the hydraulic brake booster pressure accumulator may crack and separate from the hydro-boost assembly during normal operating conditions.
If a separation occurred and the hood of the vehicle were open, fragments from the accumulator could cause injury to people in the immediate area. the presence of this crack or fractured surface could allow the hydraulic fluid to leak from the accumulator circuit of the booster assembly. the loss of fluid would cause increased steering and braking effort and a crash may occur without prior warning.
Dealers will test the hydro-boost assembly for functional operation of the two-function valve. if the hydro-boost assembly fails the test, dealers will replace the assembly free of charge. The recall began on march 23, 2005. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, GMC trucks at 1-866-996-9463 and hummer at 1-800-732-5493.
Certain sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, and passenger vans fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 135, ?passenger car brake systems.? some of these vehicles were produced with an out-of-specification brake hydro-boost housing relief valve bore.
Consequently, the valve o-ring seal may fracture. steering efforts may be slightly increased while braking or parking. under certain driving conditions, a fractured seal may require a slight increase in the applied brake pedal effort to achieve the same vehicle deceleration rate as prior to the seat fracture.
Dealers are to replace the hydro-boost relief valve. the recall began on june 18, 2004. owners should contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339; chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438; GMC at 1-866-996-9463; or hummer at 1-866-486-6376.
While driving on the freeway at 75 mph I felt significant reduction in speed and the rpms went pretty high. It felt as if I had my foot on the accelerator and the brake at the same time. There was also a burnt smell. After a few minutes it went back to normal. This continued to happen sporadically so I took it to my mechanic he inspected the vehicle could not find an issue he also ran a code scan. No codes pertaining to this issue only knocker sensor and O2 sensor. I replaced those anyway. Then a few days later I was driving to work at it happened again going about 55 mph it felt like the transmission had downshift to a very low gear there was smoke and really bad burning smell. I pulled over immediately and called my mechanic. He towed the vehicle to his shop still could not find a problem. After several months of sitting I had to drive the vehicle home. After approximately 5 miles there was smoke and small flames coming from behind the front drivers side wheel. My mechanic checked the brake, it had engaged without me pressing the pedal and stuck. Now we are having issues getting brake fluid to the rear brakes. Possibly the proportioning valve.
A severely cracked dashboard in 5 different places right over the air bags.

2004 yukon XL with 91,880 miles. replacement left front wheel bearing/hub failed catastrophically at 6,046 miles of service. the bearing separated completely leading to a towing event. vehicle was on an interstate highway and traveling at 70 mph, in a straight line when this occurred. service technician said the drive shaft on the 4WD vehicle was the only thing retaining the wheel. the prior bearing was replaced at 85,878 miles. the bearing was installed at aftermarket service center. the hub face has the following numbers etched on it. 730-0093, 12fr18107. when I look this up it appears to be a bearing made by gnb. *tr
Cluster dashboard fails to light up when the key turns on the vehicle. none IS the dashboard indicators move or light up, not able to see speed, miles, gas gage, etc. it takes 40 minute into a drive before it turns on randomly.
Instrument panel shorting out and flashes back on with different languages.

The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 182,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 GMC yukon XL. While driving at any speed and applying the brakes, the pedal would stiffen and not moved downward completely. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was driven to a mechanic who diagnosed that the power assist brake system failed. The vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 04v045000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 130,000.
While driving down the highway the hood opened causing the driver to not be able to see. upon investigation the welds that secure the hood latch broke loose.
My 2004 yukon has at least three major leaks in the brake lines caused by corrosion. Research found that this defect was identified shortly after the vehicles were sold new but refused to issue recalls. I was in a near accident when my brakes went completely to the floor suddenly. Also the stabilizer system fails without notice and the dash instrument cluster (gas gauge, temp gauge, voltage and oil pressure gauges works on and off.
Excessive corrosion on brake calipers, bleeders and all bolts are rusted and unmovable. brake lines are rusted and leaking. *tr
The brake lines on my 2004 XL yukon went out leaving me helpless with my 5 year old twin daughters. I was out doing errands yesterday when I was traveling 55 miles an hour on a major side highway when I went to brake and my foot went straight to the bottom of the floor.... I was not able to stop I was petrified because I was in full traffic. I pulled off the road into the grass to prevent an accident. This was the most frightening situation I have ever been in. When my husband arrived home I explained what happened , he looked under the truck to find all I said all of my brake lines were corroded and rusted and crumbly to the ground. He said he never saw anything like this. We have had several used cars in our lifetime and this IS the first to ever experience brake line failure!!!!!! I called gm to discuss my dilemma and hopefully get help with the repair and confirm my husbands findings. We were advised they will do the tow to the dealership for the diagnostic, but we would have to pay for the diagnostic. We were also advised this was a maintenance issue. Well if we would have ever thought that we would not be in this predicament today... Well here I am still waiting to hear back from them about the tow. I also called the gm dealership and they said they are aware of the problem and they had several cars in there dealership right now for brake line repair, but could do nothing with absorbing the repair cost. I would have to go to general motors and take it up with them.... At this point I am thankful for being alive with my beautiful twin daughters which could have been crippled , dismembered or even dead I am seeking from general motors compensation for repairs of my brakelines on my gm XL yukon 2004. *tr
The speedometer will work sometimes but most of time it wont. Also the other gauges in dash board will quit working. The period of time of it not working has steadily increase. It has caused both my husband tickets or warnings because it does not work. The other gauges ( the oil, temp and rpm )are unreliable. I checked with a mechanic and he says this IS common for the model I have. To repair they have to remove the dashboard. *tr
When I start the vehicle and go to the corner store turning the vehicle off, come out of store to restart vehicle it will not start it may take me 10 minutes to 4 hours to get the vehicle started again. Meaning I have been stranded at grocery stores, work, school functions. Attempting to get the vehicle started again I am constantly turning the switch. At this present time I have not drove my truck in almost 5 months. And I have been making truck payments on a vehicle I can't drive.... At this time not sure if it IS ignition switch or pass lock I know both parts should be covered because it IS a default from the manufacturer. *tr
I have a 2004 GMC yukon XL and on 10/21/13 my brake completely gave out. Luckily I was only going about ten mph and was able to roll to a stop. This was a very scary and unsafe condition. My son usual drives this truck to school and work thank god he was not behind the wheel. Upon inspection I noticed the brake lines are completely corroded. The brake line under the drivers side front door just behind the ABS unit corroded through. All of the brake lines show major corrosion. This vehicle only has 76,500 miles on it. This should never happen to a vehicle with this little use. May I add that I keep the vehicle mechanically and cosmetically meticulously maintained. I would like to be notified if there IS any action taken by GMC to resolve or repair these issues. Furthermore if any class action suit arises I would like to be notified. Through my research this seems to be a problem all over the country causing many accidents. GMC should acknowledge and fix this problem before someone gets killed. Thanks *tr
Speedometer does not go back to 0, it IS giving a false speed
The rubber boot that holds the grease in on the lower & upper ball joints on both left & right side have blown out. *tr
Speedometer and tachometer went jerky. *tr
While driving/ braking normally, brake pedal sunk down to floor. Luckily I was driving slow and no other cars were around because stopping at 30 mph took a very long space. I found out that 1 brake line rotted through till it leaked and 3 others needed replacement. GMC does not make replacement lines they need to be custom made. *tr
This IS second gm vehicle that I have had this problem it goes into reduced engine power often.spent over 3,000.00 trying to fix first vehicle and never did. Dealers don't know how to fix. This IS dangerous, was passing a truck today on 2 lane road and veh went in to reduced power.will not buy another gm product.... *js
I have a 2004 GMC yukon XL at the time I noticed the damage to the rear hatchback window, the truck only had 45,000 miles on it at the time, the extent of the damage IS the hinges has broken away from the glass which I truly believe IS a design flaw.i have taken a strap and tied the glass down to prevent it from falling out on the interstate, causing damage or injury to another vehicle, the glass itself has not been broken or damage but it IS the hinges which has seperated from the glass. *tt
Reduced power indicator on information center comes on intermittently, when it does, vehicles goes into default mode & can go max 30 mph (very dangerous, was almost rear ended). Never know when it might happen. You can pull over shut engine off sit for a little while & it will start up & run fine until the next time the reduced power light comes on. Have had it @ several shops & replaced throttle sensor, traced wires, replaced grounds, inspected harness but doesn't seem to help. I see on the online message boards there IS a lot of problems that gm can't seem to find a fix for. It IS very dangerous, someone IS going to get killed. *Tr
TL* the contact owns a 2004 GMC yukon XL. The contact was exiting a parking space at 3 mph and depressing the brakes when the pedal was depressed into the floorboard abnormally. The emergency brake was used to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic who inspected the failure. They informed the contact that all the brake lines were rusted and corroded and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 116,000. Form returnd no change
TL* the contact owns a 2004 GMC yukon XL. The contact stated that the air conditioner in the rear no longer functioned. The contact also received an adjustment of service notice from the manufacturer and the air conditioner in the front was repaired, but not the rear. The dealer replaced the power connecter and the resister blower. The contact felt that the failure of the rear air conditioner was a manufacturer's defect. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 92,000.
