Takata recall - how do I replace my air bags when my infiniti dealership no longer handles infiniti and takata will not honor my recall expense? I live in a city of over 200,000 people but the nearest dealership IS 300 miles away and I am handicapped. if I have to have someone take it elsewhere how will I be reimbursed. I should not have to pay for this recall which I can not afford.

I am the second owner of this vehicle. The dashboard has been melting since 2012. I took my vehicle into a new orleans infiniti dealership who told me to contact the manufacturer because there was a recall on the bubbled melting dashboards. I called the manufacturer in 2012 and they told me that the recall had expired. I asked them why didn't I get a notification they stated that the notification went to the original owner. At this time they updated their system with my address and contact into. I tried again in 2016 they told me the same thing, that it expired. I tried again august 2018 and was told that the recall was extended but once again it expired in 2014, this IS very frustrating because I called in 2012 and was told I no longer qualified only to find out that it was extended and I still wasn't notified of the extension. My 'luxury' leather seats have also begun cracking and tearing up. I am so displeased with this experience. I have owed my vehicle for 8 years and will never purchase another infiniti, this IS a luxury brand vehicle and I am very embarrassed to ride around with anyone in my vehicle because this IS always the first question people ask about....what happened to your dashboard?? Please help me get this resolved.

My 2006 FX 35 dashboard has bubbled. it IS so ugly that we had to buy a covering to cover it up. I am very disappointed that this IS happening to a car that we spent a lot of $ on and IS supposed to be a "luxury" car -- my husband goggled and found there was a recall in 2015 on 2006 infinity FX 35 and also found that infiniti admitted to using a poor material on their dashboards which was the reason they are all completely falling apart and bubbling up. [xxx] called immediately to see how we could go about getting the vehicle fixed and was advised the recall expired in 2015 -- and that a letter was never sent to me, it went to the original owner (we bought it in 2015) and there was nothing they would do for us. This IS the worst customer service we have ever received -- infiniti should take pride in their vehicles and should own their mistake and pay for all customers who have been affected -- they then asked him which infiniti dealer he went to for servicing to which he replied I have gone to the one in annapolis, maryland. to replace this dashboard, it will cost around $1,500 or more -- I will never purchase another infiniti again if infiniti doesn't do the right thing and help out their customers -- inadequate notifications were sent out and were never followed up on, I was never advised anything of this by my local dealer, and now I am being left to pick up the pieces financially. I am disgusted by the poor customer service we have received and the unwillingness to help us as I am not a "valuable enough customer" since I don't utilize the dealership for my services -- if infiniti doesn't do the right thing and pay for the dashboard that was destroyed by their poor materials that they used, not because of the fault of its drivers, sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr

I received a letter in the mail from infiniti indicating an important safety recall of the passenger side airbag. The letter indicated I would receive a second notice soon. I waited two weeks and did not receive an additional notice. I called the main national consumer affairs department and a case was opened. I have since called five additional times and received no call back. nothing has been done to correct this important recall. My case number IS: [xxx]. this has happened in the past regarding the bubbling of my dashboard. This also was a recall and when I finally called because I did not receive a notice of this problem, I was told that recall had expired so I no longer could take advantage of it. I continue to get the runaround every single time I call or email. I can never get answers or anything fixed. this IS incredibly frustrating especially when the letter indicated that passengers should not ride in the passenger seat because of this recall and danger. Again I have not heard anything from infiniti as promised or when I have called. the last time I spoke with a representative was on september 8. Please help. Thank you. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr

Takata recall see attached notification received in august of 2016. Note red and underlined areas. infiniti advised owners to handle this recall in an unacceptable way for two reasons 1. airbag deployment while driving IS likely to cause a wreck which could endanger others unrelated to the recall 2. metal pieces would not just hit the passenger seat, they would go throughout the vehicle the first of my many calls to infiniti ended with no solution, no plan for loaner cars or replacement and saying they had really been hit by surprise. the second call I got a case number and was told all of my calls were being recorded. I received a call from infiniti that they had an interim fix, to call my service manager and ask for it. but, that when the real replacement part was available, they would have to replace the interim one with it. my service agent told me, he can't do it because it's the same part that's in the car now. it's activity to appear they are doing something. infiniti confirmed it being the same part. each person has a different spin, from asking how many miles my car has on it to telling me the interim part won't cause harm if the airbags are deployed in an accident (even just a fender bender) because they put bubble wrap around it. infiniti IS not communicating, not being honest and endangering many lives. their unethical business practices leave no doubt that they are trying to hide what they are doing from nhtsa too. as the sole guardian of a 9 year old, I pray nothing happens to me when I drive the car to work every day and it's hard to explain why she can't go somewhere because she can't ride in my car anymore. I don't have the money to trash the car and start over but I do have the morals and values that keep me from selling it to someone else. someone has got to step in and make infiniti do the right thing.

- Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant…
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.

These re-notifications, in English and Spanish, will urge clients to contact their retailer for a free recall remedy as soon as possible! INFINITI expects this targeted outreach activity to motivate a higher percentage of clients to complete the Takata recall. Similar initiatives for other manufacturers have seen a significant jump in response rates and completed repairs in the following weeks. We need retailer support to make this effort successful! - 10152986Subject: Takata Completion Objectives for Q4 INFINITI is continuing to ask its retailers to urgently help increase customer participation in the Takata recalls to help it achieve 100% customer recall participation for the following vehicles: - 2001 I30 - 2002-04 I35 - 2003-08 FX - 2002-03 QX4 - 2006-10 M Sedan INFINITI expects to upload the next refreshed owner list to DBS around the middle of February. At the time of monthly updates, we reassign owner lists based on retailer buy/sells. We anticipate having this automated within DBS by the end of the fiscal year. This is an extremely serious safety issue and INFINITI is taking significant and unprecedented steps to increase client recall participation but it needs retailer help to achieve its remedy goals. A separate communication will be released later this week informing regional personnel of the requirements for bonus payout in Q4. The Q4 objective is based on the average number of repairs in Q3 multiplied by the number of service days in Q4 (Mon-Sat minus any holidays). Retailer engagement is critical with this effort. It is a company-wide responsibility to make it a priority to replace these dangerous airbag inflators in affected vehicles. Further, increasing recall participation represents significant gross profit opportunity for our retailers. Regional personnel can access current completions via the tableau Takata tracker (https://tableau.na.nissan.biz/#/site/SLSMKG/views/TakataCampaignReport/TakataCampaign?:iid=1). Q4 objectives will be updated in the tableau Takata tracker by the end of the week, but current overall completion rates are included above.

- 10152500Retailer Engagement for Takata Awareness INFINITI is committed to the safety and security of its clients and their passengers. As you are likely aware, INFINITI has initiated multiple field actions to execute the Takata Airbag Recall in accordance with the schedule set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). INFINITI has employed a variety of methods to reach affected clients to increase repair completion. However, your help is needed to raise awareness to remedy the approximately one hundred twenty thousand vehicles that remain unrepaired. This is a serious issue and we need everyone?s help to further increase recall awareness. INFINITI is asking all retailers to provide their employees with instructions on how to identify vehicles affected by the Takata airbag recall and encourage them to help draw an affected owner?s attention to this danger. Your employee?s actions could save someone?s life or prevent a significant injury. Supporting Materials To assist with this request, each retailer will receive thirty ?Takata Airbag Recall Alert Cards? by December 5, 2018. Each ?Alert Card? has eight (8) individual tear off cards (written in English and Spanish) that can be distributed to owners to make them aware of how to check their vehicle for an open Takata recall, and of the importance of having the repair performed. To facilitate identification of affected vehicles, your employees can download the free Airbag Recall App from the App Store or Google Play. This app will work for any brand vehicle affected by the Takata recall, and will inform your employees if any of the affected vehicles listed below have an open Takata recall. Affected Vehicles: - INFINITI: - 2001 I30 - 2002-2004 I35 - 2002-2003 QX4 - 2003-2008 FX35/45 - 2006-2010 M35/45 - NISSAN: - 2001-2003 Maxima - 2002-2004 Pathfinder - 2002-2006 Sentra - 2007-2011 Versa Sedan - 2007-2012 Versa Hatchback

When removing the protective covering, care must be used to avoid scuffs, scrapes, cuts, and other abrasive contact to interior trim components. DO NOT use sharp objects like razor blades, box cutters, knives, etc. when removing the plastic interior trim protective covering. - 10149806TRANSMISSION & ENGINE AUTOMATED DATA COLLECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC REPORTING SERVICE INFORMATION To support proper diagnosis and to promote Fixed-Right-First-Time ? Infiniti may review CONSULT-III plus (CIII plus) data relating to vehicle operation and function to help with vehicle diagnosis and diagnostic validation. IMPORTANT: For transmission/engine repair or replacement, retailers are required to connect C-III plus and perform ?Diagnosis (All Systems)?. Performing C-III plus ?Diagnosis (All Systems)? is also required prior to contacting any Infiniti call center (i.e. TECH-LINE, PCC, or WCC) for diagnostic support or claim preauthorization. NOTE: For additional information regarding Automated Vehicle Data Collection, refer to IWBI/18-019. To support Automated Vehicle Data Collection, your C-III plus must have the Diagnosis result reporting function-Setting turned ON. If Diagnosis result reporting function-Setting is OFF: - It may cause dealer consideration for Audit or the Anomalous Repair Control (ARC) program, where applicable. - It may result in a repair being non-warrantable. Refer to the Service Procedure on the next page to confirm your C-III plus ?Diagnosis result reporting function-Setting? is turned ON.
- 10149803Infiniti USA Electronic Field Communication Subject: Takata Completion Objectives for Q3 INFINITI is continuing to ask its retailers to urgently help increase customer participation in the Takata recalls to help it achieve 100% customer recall participation for the following vehicles: ? 2001 I30 ? 2002-04 I35 ? 2003-08 FX ? 2002-03 QX4 ? 2006-10 M Sedan INFINITI expects to upload the next refreshed owner list to DBS within the next week. We will also be reassigning VINs to retailers based on information changes. We didn?t reassign any VINs in Q2 to avoid any mid-quarter objective impact. If VINs were repaired out of network, the retailer/region with the original assignment received credit for the repair. This is an extremely serious safety issue and INFINITI is taking significant and unprecedented steps to increase client recall participation but it needs retailer help to achieve its remedy goals. A separate communication will be released later this month informing regional personnel of the requirements for bonus payout in Q3 and Q2 results. The Q3 objective is based on the average number of repairs in Q2 multiplied by the number of service days in Q3 (Mon-Sat minus any holidays). Retailer engagement is critical with this effort. It is a company-wide responsibility to make it a priority to replace these dangerous airbag inflators in affected vehicles. Further, increasing recall participation represents significant gross profit opportunity for our retailers.
- 10149802Infiniti USA Electronic Field Communication Subject: Retailed Vehicle Open Campaign Report Lists Updated The lists for each retailer?s Retailed Vehicle Open Campaign Report has been updated today in DBS. We made our best effort to reassign vehicles to retailers based on the most recent owner information we received. The complexity of filtering out brokers (banks, salvage yards, and insurance companies) and reassigning VINs based on updated owner information affected over 123K records between INFINITI and Nissan, so we are unable to summarize the changes at a regional or retailer level. We suggest the retailers download their lists and have their outbound call centers compare information if necessary. If you have questions, please let us know. Additionally, we will have some enhancements coming in DBS effective November 17, 2018: Owner Data Updates (NNA side): 1. VIN, Campaign Code, and Source are the unique fields 2. Compare all fields except Remove Flag and Comments to see if there is a difference. a. If there is same VIN, Camp ID, and Source and all other fields are also the same then the record will be updated without changing Remove Flag and Comment field b. If there is same VIN, Camp ID, and Source and any other field is different, then the record will be inserted, in this case Remove Flag and Comment field will be blank as this is new record. The remove flag is being removed so the retailer will understand the information they previously flagged for removal has been updated and should be tried again before reapplying the removal flag. c. The retailer benefit of A & B above is duplicate records for the same VIN, Camp ID, and information source with the same customer contact information will no longer display in DBS on the Retailed Vehicle Open Campaign Report.
