These records cover every 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
8 recalls name the 1992 Plymouth Grand Voyager. Newest first.
Vehicle description: minivans. the left hand windshield wiper pivot drive arm was not mechanically staked to the pivot shaft.
This could allow the drive arm to disengage from the shaft leading to a loss of wiper function. the driver's visibility would be impaired, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the left hand side windshield wiper pivot assembly.
Vehicle description: passenger mini-vans. covers on the solid stalk mounted seat belt buckles can become dislodged causing the release button to stick inside the cover. the buckle would then be only partially latched.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained increasing the risk of personal injury.
Dealers will install a cover retaining clip to the stalk mounted buckle cover to prevent dislocation of the buckle cover.
Vehicle description: passenger mini-vans. The center rear seat, right outboard side, safety belt anchor hook can become unattached from the body anchor position.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained increasing the risk of personal injury.
Dealers will replace the anchor hook retaining clip with a revised profile clip and a cover plate.
The bolts used to attach the strut to the body and the rear liftgate can accumulate fatigue damage if three factors combine. if the bolt IS loose, the gas strut IS over-pressurized, and the frequency of opening and closing cycles IS higher than for the average customer, the bolt can fail.
Personal injury could occur if the bolts break allowing the liftgate to fall suddenly.
Dealers will inspect for loose fasteners, if the fasteners are loose, the strut (and integral bolts) will be replaced. if the bolt shows evidence of torque, the bolt will be removed, larger washers will replace the existing washer and the bolt will be reinstalled and hand tightened to the target torqued.
The steering wheel armature stamping can crack and separate from the center hub attachment to the steering column.
If the steering wheel separates from the center hub attachment to the steering column, loss of control can occur increasing the risk of an accident.
Dealers will inspect the steering wheel for armature cracks in the center hub attachment area. any steering wheels showing cracks will be replaced. all other vehicles will have a reinforcement plate installed to prevent steering wheel separation in the event cracking occurs.
The ABS hydraulic control unit can experience excessive brake actuator piston seal wear causing pump-motor deterioration.
If this condition occurs, the ABS function could be lost and reduced power assist would be experienced during vehicle braking increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Dealers will test the vehicle's anti-lock brake system and repair the vehicles if necessary. Also the warranty on all ABS components will be extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles (except for the brake actuator piston assembly and the pump-motor assembly which will have a lifetime coverage). Owners will also be reimbursed for previous ABS component repair costs.

If the liftgate latch opens, occupants can be ejected resulting in significantly increased risk of injury or death.
Chrysler dealers will replace the liftgate latch with a new stronger latch assembly without charge. chrysler began notifying owners of these vehicles in october 1995.

TL* the contact owns a 1992 plymouth grand voyager. While driving various speeds, excessive force had to be applied to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The failure occurred without warning. Lodi chrysler jeep dodge RAM (1255 beckman rd, lodi, ca) diagnosed that the ABS pump module assembly and brake actuator assembly failed. The parts were included in a lifetime chrysler customer satisfaction campaign number: 682; however, the parts were unavailable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and refused to honor the campaign because they no longer manufactured the parts for the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.
This van IS affected by the 96v099000 nhtsa recall, however when inquiring about getting the ABS motor replaced at a local dealership I was told that the parts are no longer made to fix this issue. I believe that chrysler has a duty to fix the brakes on this vehicle as directed by the nhtsa, parts obsolescence does not absolve them from responsibility or the nhtsa. if the parts are no longer available I request that chrysler purchase the van back from me and have it destroyed, fix the brakes according to the recall or convert the brakes to the non-abs type. I do not understand how chrysler and the nhtsa could allow bendix (the manufacturer of this rather problematic brake system) to stop making a lifetime replacement part. this issue causes the power assist to stop working, creates a hard pedal which makes it impossible to drive the vehicle safely. this creates a condition worse than a vehicle with all manual brakes that have no power / vacuum assist to begin with, when test driving the vehicle it takes both feet planted firmly on the pedal to stop it. as I have not gotten a satisfactory solution that was mandated and enforced by the nhtsa, I look forward to your prompt reply in this matter. *tr
While driving at approximately 40 mph, the spare tire fell from under the van. *tr
Experienced hard brake pedal (lose of braking) and brake / ABS lights illuminated on the dash board. this was the second failure in the last two years after approximately 14,000 miles of operation since the last repair and for at least the fourth time since we have owned this vehicle (bought new). previous repair involved replacement of brake accumulator, dual pressure switch, brake actuator piston assembly, and the pump motor assembly, the last two of which are subject to a lifetime recall. dealer refuses to repair/replace warranted parts without agreement that other parts are replaced at a cost of approximately $900. given that it IS likely that warranted part failures are leading to the failure of the other components and that the last repair only lasted for 14,000 mile we requested that chrysler cover the entire repair. chrysler refused. in addition, it has been our experience that each time we have had the brake system fail, it has included the need to replace other brake system components beyond the parts subject to the lifetime recall. thus it would appear that the lifetime recall should have been expanded to cover all of the components impacted by the failure of the warranted components. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1992 plymouth grand voyager. The contact stated that while driving approximately 15 mph, there was a loud noise coming from the vehicle. After pulling over she noticed that the fuel rail was fractured and partially hanging from the vehicle. In addition, the sliding passenger side door would sporadically come off track and could not be closed properly. The door was closed using a cord. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they advised her that they would have to take the door apart for realignment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance, stating that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 1992 plymouth grand voyager. While driving at 35 mph, the contact attempted to use the brakes but the vehicle did not slow down. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealership but no repairs were performed at the time of the complaint because the parts were no longer available. The contact referenced recall 96v099000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock) as she felt it was related to the failure. The current and failure mileages were 196,555.
Two weeks ago the ABS and brake lights came on in my 1992 plymouth grand voyager mini-van. At that moment there was no hydraulic brake pressure and it was very difficult to control the van. The van was towed to my regular, independent repair shop and they checked the condition and their diagnostic computer issued a coded error. I discovered that this ABS brake was covered under an extended warranty by chrysler. I took the van to a nearby chrysler dealer and they checked. The ABS light and brake light were out at this time and the dealer charged for one hour, gave me list of parts they considered may need to be replaced and verbally said it may cost about $400 or more to fix. They did not assure me that a warranty would apply. *tr
My ABS light came on and a few days later my master cylinder failed resulting in no breaks. I was able to get to the side of the road for a tow. I have paid to get repairs completed. Chrysler tells me my car IS not covered by recall. I dispute this. Recall # 96v099000. *tr
Transmission IS leaking from front pump seal and from what I have been told all of the caravan, voyager and town & country's do this because they were not designed correctly. *Jb
1992 dodge plymouth grand voyager LE the steering wheel broke up under the van while I was driving, causing me to crash into some one else vehicle.*jb
I have a plymouth grand voyager in which was involved in an earlier re call for the ABS brakes now they failed again*ak
The brakes have been defective since the consumer owned the vehicle. the brakes have been serviced every year. Consumer has to press on the brakes with both feet to stop the vehicle. the brakes remain defective.*ak
Tread separation in tire. the tire was a p205/17r15 with dot U9M0 lbx2701 F01L. the tire name was response rst touring 2000. the tire had 16000 miles and was on the vehicle 16 mar 2002 to 19 sep 2004. the tire was sold and installed by ntb, national tire & battery, stafford, tx. owner deduced the separation after the defective tire was rotated to the rear of the vehicle and later noticed the bump from the tread separation. ntb stated that the remaining 3 tires would also fail by tread separation. all four tires were replaced. none of the tires was replaced free of charge.
The brake pedal had became hard and wouldn't go down when depressed. the consumer coasted the vehicle into the driveway and engaged the parking brake to stop. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and the mechanic performed a diagnostic test that indicated that the hydraulic brake pump motor assembly malfunctioned. also, there was recall 96v099000 concerning anti skid brake system. however, the dealership indicated that this recall had already been performed. the remedy failed, and the manufacturer was not honoring the warranty as stated in the recall, and were not sending the recall part to the dealership because the dealership was unable to get a diagnostic test code indicating that the recall part failed, although the dealership duplicated the problem , and indicated that the recall part was causing the problem. *ak (the second consumer: tara beth) *sc *jb
I had this vehicle for a very short time when I started to have problems with the sliding door not staying closed. After it IS shut it pops open immediately. I have had the bolt adjusted several times and it would keep it closed, but not for long. After it had been opened and shut 2-5 times it would again pop open. This IS an on going problem. I have parked the vehicle and will not drive it and fear to sell it due to this malfunction of the sliding door. Someone should replace this for free, but who? I am a single mother with 4 children and used to rely on a mini-van.*ak
While applying the brake the pedal went to the floor which caused a loss of braking power. the driver was able to control the vehicle and drove it to the dealer for inspection. the mechanic informed the driver that the dual function pressure system, pertaining to hydraulic assembly needed to be replaced. *la *nm
They repainted the hood for me if I was willing to pay half and now it IS doing the same thing all over again but worst. the wood paneling on the sides IS just peeling away and the car looks like crap on the outside but IS still running good due to all the money we put into it. the brakes have been fixed twice for a faulty switch and relay switch due to the ABS brake system. I was out driving just this past week and without warning I lost my brakes and I am suffering from ms so I had a great deal of diffulty stopping the vehcile with one foot I had to use two feet and prayed a lot just to get back home.
I would like to know more about the recalls for the above vehicle and what exactly they cover and don't cover and I go about getting them fixed. my car IS now in the shop for failure of brakes. while I was out driving the brakes suddenly went on me
ABS failed while I was driving. When I pushed on the brakes it felt like I was hititng a rock . Took forever to stop. Van IS currently at mechanics. They said egular brakes fine will notify me monday what problem IS with abs.*ak
While the vehicle was idling consumer smelled a strong gasoline odor. Consumer opened the engine compartment, and observed gas dripping from the fuel rail. vehicle was immediately parked, and the manufacturer was informed.*ak *nm
The front seat recliner bracket has cracked causing a safety hazard. The front driver's side seat will not stay upright . *jb
ABS pump failed while driving. Pump ran on and off. Dealer was sorry, nothing could be done about it. *Ak
Air bag failure. *jb
My 1992 plymouth grand voyager minivan has experienced recurring failure of the anti-lock braking system. The brake system warning light and ABS warning light both illuminated. On occasion the system resumed operation if the vehicle was turned off or not driven for 2 or more hours. in march of 2003 a local garage diagnosed the ABS relay was not providing power to the ABS pump. The relay was replaced - cost $100. Days later the system failed again. The pump would only operate if connected to direct battery voltage to start it running. in late april the ABS pump was replaced by another local garage cost over $500. The system operated another 3 weeks, and then failed again, completely failing during in mid-june. The van was towed to the same garage. The technician identified that the ABS relay coil had failed. The van IS un-drivable because the ABS pump also supplies power brake pressure. the van was towed to chris leith dodge in wake forest, nc on july 3, 2003 and inspected. On july 11, 2003 the service department let me know that they needed the district manager to make determination of recall warranty repair of the system. July 15, 2003, the service manager and district manager determined that the part the technician identified as malfunctioning (hydraulic assembly r-4683398) was not a part of recall 96v-099 # 685. The ABS pump IS part of the recall and was to be warranted for life. The recall also states that repairs done earlier to this part were to be reimbursed as a part of this recall. I await information on how long it will take to obtain and install repair parts. The repair estimate IS $999.84. The van was purchased used for $1800. Repairs are nearing that value. According to complaints and the engineering evaluation this IS a recurring problem. I know the van IS not new, but at least it can be safe, or the public should be warned not to keep these vehicles in operation if chrysler will not honor the terms and spirit of the recall.
While driving the transmission shifted itself into neutral until the speed decreased and then automatically defaulted into 2ND gear. *nlm

After an extensive investigation and analysis, chrysler has identified the defect as a fatigue failure, origination in the heat affected region of the projection welds of the steering wheel hub to steering wheel armature attachment.the hub IS the portion of the steering wheel assembly that connects it to the steering column shaft and IS attached to the underside of the steering wheel assembly by 4 welds.if cracks develop in the heat affected region of the welds and propagate through the steering wheel armature to each of the welds, the steering wheel can separate from the hub.this IS a slow progressive failure which normally occurs at high mileage.in some cases complainants have reported a looseness or wobbling of the steering wheel prior to separation.to remedy this defect, chrysler will inspect the steering wheels of the affected vehicles for cracks in the hub area.if any cracks are found, the steering wheel will be replaced.all other vehicles will have reinforcing plates installed which would prevent a steering wheel separation should cracking occur.

Liftgate latches in the subject vehicles have failed in low and moderate speed impacts resulting in occupant ejections, injuries, and fatalities.there are two failure modes associated with latch failure: fork bolt-detent lever bypass, and inertial unlatching.nhtsa analyses of chrysler and peer minivans took the form of static and dynamic crash testing, engineering evaluations, complaint and field analyses, and real world data analyses.a technical report discussing these analyses can be found in the engineering analysis technical report in the public viewing file.chrysler has advised nhtsa that it will conduct a campaign to replace the latches on all the subject vehicles.the chrysler campaign will consist of notification letters to all owners; free replacement of all latches with stronger, safer latches regardless of the age of the minivans; national advertising to promote customer awareness of the campaign; quarterly reports regarding campaign completion rates; as well as additional measures to ensure a high completion rate, above and beyond the actions that normally would be taken in a formal safety recall.these include follow up written and telephonic notifications to owners who do not bring their vehicles in for corrective action.nhtsa firmly believes that the crash performance of the latches on these minivans raises serious safety concerns, and that the campaign addresses these concerns.the chrysler corrective action will increase the strength of the liftgate latches and decrease the potential for inertial unlatching, thereby reducing the risk of crash-related openings of the liftgate and possible occupant ejection through the liftgate opening.owners of chrysler minivans will get a stronger, safer latch free of charge at the earliest possible time, without the need for further technical investigation and complex and time-consuming litigation with an uncertain outcome.based on the above, odi IS closing this investigation.
