These records cover every 1993 Plymouth Grand Voyager. To see whether one car still needs a recall repair, decode its VIN or check it with NHTSA.
9 recalls name the 1993 Plymouth Grand Voyager. Newest first.
Vehicle description: MINI vans equipped with 2-spoke luxury wheels manufactured july 1992 through june 1993; or equipped with 4-spoke sport wheels manufactured from july 1992 through september 1993. the steering wheel armature stamping can crack and separate from the center hub attachment to the steering column.
If the steering wheel separates from the center hub attachment to the steering column, loss of control can occur increasing the risk of an accident.
Dealers will inspect the steering wheel for cracks and any wheels with cracks will be replaced. all other vehicles will have a reinforcement plate installed to prevent steering wheel separation in the event cracking occurs.
Vehicle description: MINI vans. the bolts used to attach the strut to the body and the rear liftgate can accumulate fatigue damage if three factors combine. if the bolt IS loose, the gas strut IS over-pressurized, and the frequency of opening and closing cycles IS higher than for the average customer, the bolt can fail.
Personal injury could occur if the bolts break allowing the liftgate to fall suddenly.
Dealers will inspect for loose fasteners, if the fasteners are loose, the strut (and integral bolts) will be replaced. if the bolt shows evidence of torque, the bolt will be removed, larger washers will replace the existing washer and the bolt will be reinstalled and hand tightened to the target torqued.
Vehicle description: minivans. the left hand windshield wiper pivot drive arm was not mechanically staked to the pivot shaft.
This could allow the drive arm to disengage from the shaft leading to a loss of wiper function. the driver's visibility would be impaired, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the left hand side windshield wiper pivot assembly.
Vehicle description: MINI vans. the wiring that initiates the driver and/or passenger air bag could electrically short circuit to ground. a short circuit to ground that exists immediately after turning the ignition key to the "on" or "start" position can cause the air bag(s) to inadvertently deploy.
Inadvertent air bag deployment can injure a front seat occupant.
Dealers will perform an electronic diagnostic check. any short circuits identified in either the driver's or passenger side air bag initiator wire circuit will be repaired.
Vehicle description: passenger mini-vans. covers on the solid stalk mounted seat belt buckles can become dislodged causing the release button to stick inside the cover. the buckle would then be only partially latched.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained increasing the risk of personal injury.
Dealers will install a cover retaining clip to the stalk mounted buckle cover to prevent dislocation of the buckle cover.
Vehicle description: passenger mini-vans. The center rear seat, right outboard side, safety belt anchor hook can become unattached from the body anchor position.
In the event of a vehicle crash, the occupant may not be properly restrained increasing the risk of personal injury.
Dealers will replace the anchor hook retaining clip with a revised profile clip and a cover plate.
The ABS hydraulic control unit can experience excessive brake actuator piston seal wear causing pump-motor deterioration.
If this condition occurs, the ABS function could be lost and reduced power assist would be experienced during vehicle braking increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Dealers will test the vehicle's anti-lock brake system and repair the vehicles if necessary. Also the warranty on all ABS components will be extended to 10 years or 100,000 miles (except for the brake actuator piston assembly and the pump-motor assembly which will have a lifetime coverage). Owners will also be reimbursed for previous ABS component repair costs.
Vehicle description: light duty passenger minivans without remote release. this IS not a safety recall. there has been no determination that a safety defect exists with the minivan latches. chrysler IS conducting a service campaign to replace the liftgate latch assembly of the affected minivans. in a collision, the rear liftgate latch assembly could…
If the liftgate latch opens, occupants can be ejected resulting in significantly increased risk of injury or death.
Chrysler dealers will replace the liftgate latch with a new stronger latch assembly without charge. chrysler began notifying owners of these vehicles beginning september 1995.

Fuel rail leak at the crossover pipe, getting fuel on valve covers, and close to exhaust manifold. fuel leak will not stop. contacted chrysler dealership, no known fix available. fuel rail discontinued, no parts available. no known recall available. potential fire hazard!!
ABS brake system has sprung a leak at the piston assembly input shaft seal. The life time warrantee should apply to this problem. The dealer I am working with informs me the repair parts are no longer available and are requesting diagnostic fees up front. I have confirmed 3 part numbers that are available for a dozen other chrysler vehicles to be the same physical part in those 3 and the same part for my plymouth. all reference for the plymouth part number show no longer available. They are using multiple part numbers for the same part in deceptive ways to avoid repairs. The following part number IS for the list of cars below and IS the same physical part for my plymouth mopar part # r4683555 - list below chrysler town & country 3.3L V6 ohv, 4-speed automatic 1991, 1992, 1993 dodge grand caravan 2.5L I4 efi, 3-speed automatic 1991, 1992, 1993 dodge grand caravan 2.5L I4 efi, 5-speed manual 1991, 1992, 1993 dodge grand caravan 2.5L I4 efi, continuously variable transaxle 1993 dodge grand caravan 3.0L V6 smpi, 3-SPD. ABS hydraulic accuator pump failed again. Was repaired for free in 1999. I paid for the accumalotor, which fails due to the leaky brake pump. Chrysler IS delaying or denying repair on lifetime warranty due to recall.
Brakes have no power assist due to ABS pump failure, as diagnosed by putnam chrysler on 3/29/13. Dealer contacted chrysler regarding recall 685. Part was said to be on back order. Owner has contacted chrysler and dealer numerous times to no avail. Latest report (11/7/13) from chrysler IS that the part was sent to dealer and message left for owner at some unrecognized phone number. Latest report from dealer, also 11/7/13, IS that repair has already been done, which IS not correct. Dealer rep was to research and call owner back. No call back. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 1993 plymouth grand voyager. The contact stated that as he was braking to a stop, the brake pedal abnormally traveled to the floorboard causing an increase in stopping distance. The contact was able to stop the vehicle as he continued to apply the brakes. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign ID number: 96v099000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock), stating that the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall but the failure still existed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who performed the recall repairs. The contact left the vehicle with the dealer and stated that the vehicle was not repaired correctly. The manufacturer was notified who advised that they would give him a return call. The failure mileage was 243,067.
Tl*the contact owns a 1993 plymouth grand voyager. the contact stated that the liftgate hinge was not operating correctly. the liftgate closed without assistance. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and repaired. also, the ABS warning light illuminated intermittently on the instrument panel. the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and experienced difficulty slowing down. there was also a malfunction with the seat belt assembly buckle. recently, while driving approximately 65 mph in the rain, the windshield wipers stopped working without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic on three separate occasions. the technician advised that the vehicle be taken to an authorized dealer. at this time, the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 142,000 and current mileage was 155,000. Update 10/01/08 *cw the set belt would not retract. Updated 10/03/08. *Jb
Tl*the contact owns a 1993 plymouth grand voyager. the contact stated that it IS very difficult to depress the brake pedal in his vehicle. he has to use all of his strength to get them to work. in addition, the ABS pump IS running and will not shut off. the ABS lights and brake lights are currently illuminated. the rear wiper on the rear hatch has been replaced four times at the cost of $350. the wiper currently needs to be replaced again. within six months of having the vehicle repaired, the failure recurred. the driver's side door IS falling off the hinges and the door was repaired once before with a used door. the door currently needs to be repaired or replaced again. at 81,000 miles, the transmission had to be replaced due to shift bump behavior; however, the failure still persists. the air conditioner has not worked since the vehicle was purchased. the current mileage was 151,000 and failure mileage was 100,000.
The ABS system failed three times on 4/15/08. the vehicle IS a plymouth grand voyager, 1993. I almost hit a car that was turning in front of me. then the ABS and parking brake lights lit up on the dash board. I barely made it home without hitting anything and parked my car in the garage. when I went out a few minutes later to take it to a mechanic nearby, the brake pedal dropped when I turned the key to start the car. the brakes were mushy until I got it to the mechanic. he confirmed the problem IS with the ABS system and that it was covered under the recall. the byers chrysler dealership now has the car and IS claiming they cannot reproduce the problem and will not replace the ABS until they can. I do not want to kill myself or anyone else with a braking system that may fail at any time. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1993 plymouth grand voyager. approximately ten years ago, the contact received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign ID number 96v099000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock)and daimler chrysler recall number 685. he took his vehicle to the dealer for service, but they could not honor the recall notice. they informed the contact that recalls could only be serviced within a reasonable amount of time. according to the contact, the recall stated that the consumer could get a free remedy any time after receiving the notice for the life of the vehicle. the service manager at the dealer agreed with the contact. the contact stated that general motors should honor what IS mentioned in the recall notice. it was noticed that nhtsa's recall notice slightly differed from the manufacturer's notice concerning the services that would be provided for the life of the vehicle. the contact stated that he can provide a copy of the recall notice from daimler chrysler. there had been no failure to date. the current mileage was 92,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 1993 plymouth grand voyager. while driving in reverse at 5 mph, the brake pedal would not depress, despite using extreme force. the contact stated that the failure was intermittent, however, the ABS light remained illuminated. the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle as having antilock brake failure. the dealer stated that her vin was not included in nhtsa recall number 96v099000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). the powertrain was unknown. the current mileage was 155,000 and failure mileage was 120,000.
Dt*: the contact stated while depressing the brake pedal at various speeds, there was an increased stopping distance. the vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined the dual function pressure switch needed to be replaced. the consumer was told the dual pressure switch was apart of the ABS and was not covered under any recall. The consumer was told that the pressure switch failed because the abs/pump motor had failed so many times. Updated 12/01/06. *Jb the stated the ABS module had been replaced 5 times
4TH 1993 plymouth grand voyager SE transmission. No warning before complete transmission failure. Has 1ST gear to about 15 mph and then slips out of gear. No reverse no nothing. Van IS sitting in my garage while I decide what to do with this giant boat anchor. *jb
I own a 1993 plymouth grand voyager LE 3.3L V6 that has a problem with stalling. It IS very dangerous and has occurred several times while driving on the freeway. It seems to happen only after the engine has reached operating temperature and while of either apply the brakes or sitting at a dead stop. Several mechanic shops have not been able to diagnose the problem or simply do not know what the cause IS. After doing research into this matter, I have found that several plymouth grand voyager owners have had these same exact problems. The fuel pump and filter have been changed and various sensors as well. This IS a hazard not only to myself and my family, but to all other drivers that may be on the road and around my vehicle when this occurs. With the number of reports that I have seen, I think that daimler/chrysler should check into this problem, issue a recall, and fix this problem before someone gets hurt or possible killed. *jb
While driving the vehicle at any speed and applying the brakes, the brake pedal went to the floor with no brake at all resulting in an extended stopping distance. as a result, consumer was involved in a front end collision. Dealership has been notified. Please provide further information notified. *la
My ABS light came on when driving, within seconds, I had absolutely no brakes. The dealer fixed at no charge, although I had to pay for towing. Today has been 2 weeks since I've had the vehicle repaired. As I was traveling down the freeway with my 4 children, the ABS light came on again, and the brakes were gone again. When I purchased this vehicle in 1999, the ABS system was replaced on 3 seperate occasions for the exact same reason. Each time with the guarantee that it was fixed. What will it take to have this issue resolved? The death of my children and i? I purchased this MINI van for the reason of safety due to the fact that I drive with my children quite a bit. I am very unhappy with this issue. To add to the dilemma, I am currently raising my children alone due to the fact that my husband IS overseas at war. With the added stress of my husband being away, I really feel the burden with my MINI van IS extemely uncalled for. I can no longer do the simple tasks of going to the store without feeling fear that my vehicle will all of a sudden not stop. I am just trying to get by in a safe manner while my husband IS away. And this expensive vehicle made by chrysler/plymouth has failed to do this for me. Your immediate response IS expected!
Bought van used august 1999 with 91,000 miles. van now has 134,000 miles. transmission has been rebuilt/replaced 3 times [2 rebuilds - october 2000 (cost: ~$1600) and april 2001 (cost:~$550); replaced with used transmission after last failure april 2003 (cost:$901)]. computer controls (single board engine controller - sbec) went bad while traveling at night on interstate on a trip - caused cam sensor and crank sensor to go bad as well (cost: ~$550). as you can see we have spent ~$3600 on a van that was purchased for $3700!!????? I am considering legal action against chrysler now.
Air conditioner quit working, problem IS evaporator under dash. repair to be $1200 estimated. fuel pump failed. paint began peeling at 40,000 miles. just finished repainting whole vehicle at own expense. both front seatbelts would not unroll and were replaced. transmission failed at 68,000 miles, dealer repaired at no charge. ABS no longer works. wheels lock up when hard braking.
Total ABS failure twice within three week period. Dealer replaced pump motor under recall warranty for first failure, diagnosed dual function pressure switch for second failure. Dealer and manufacturer refuses to warrant pressure switch as part of ABS. pressure switch has been replaced at 40,400 miles on 3/25/97, replaced again at 68,327 miles on 5/29/01. current instance IS third failure of switch. on going ABS failures over life of car.
The drivers side seat belt buckle became unfastened while driving. there was a recall for this problem ( recall no.#97v148000 seat belt system ) but the vehicle identification number was not apart of the recall. the manufacturer was aware of the problem. *jb *nm
Consumer received recall 96v099000 concerning brakes:hydraulic:anti-skid system failure. dealer wanted to charge $85.00 to look at the vehicle before doing recall repairs.*ak
I have a 1993 plymouth grand voyager. The ABS pump and motor were replaced (under warranty) with a re-manufactured unit on 11/05/01 when the vehicle mileage was 104,691. the pump just failed again, and was replaced with another re-manufactured unit. the vehicle mileage IS now 115,381. I am concerned that chrysler IS install poor quality repair parts under the warranty. *la
Air bag warning light comes on and stays on. *ak
Driver had difficulty pressing the brake pedal. dealer found that the vehicle was within the remedy scope for recal 96v099000, and made the appropriate repairs. after the repairs, brake lights illuminated, and the brake pedal was still hard to push. *ak
Two complete ABS brake failures within 3 weeks. Continuous ABS brake problems over the life of the vehicle. Recall completed. Problems persist.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Mr. Larry a. Sackey submitted a petition to the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) by letter dated april 18, 2003, requesting that nhtsafurther investigate the defective collapsible steering shaft system on 1987-1995 vehicles manufactured by the daimlerchrysler corporation.in part because of 49 cfr ? 30120(G), nhtsa has decided to limit the scope of the petition vehicles to 1993-1995 models, excluding the 1993 jeep grand cherokee and 1994-1995 dodge RAM series trucks that were recalled (93v210 & 96v230) for steering column failure.if the analysis of these vehicles had identified a potential problem, the scope could have been expanded in an investigation.a review of odi's data base shows no recent complaints and a lack of a complaint trend concerning the subject issue on the subject vehicles as a whole or by individual models.therefore, the petition IS denied.for details, see federal register notice volume 68, no. 130, july 8, 2003.

Liftgate latches in the subject vehicles have failed in low and moderate speed impacts resulting in occupant ejections, injuries, and fatalities.there are two failure modes associated with latch failure: fork bolt-detent lever bypass, and inertial unlatching.nhtsa analyses of chrysler and peer minivans took the form of static and dynamic crash testing, engineering evaluations, complaint and field analyses, and real world data analyses.a technical report discussing these analyses can be found in the engineering analysis technical report in the public viewing file.chrysler has advised nhtsa that it will conduct a campaign to replace the latches on all the subject vehicles.the chrysler campaign will consist of notification letters to all owners; free replacement of all latches with stronger, safer latches regardless of the age of the minivans; national advertising to promote customer awareness of the campaign; quarterly reports regarding campaign completion rates; as well as additional measures to ensure a high completion rate, above and beyond the actions that normally would be taken in a formal safety recall.these include follow up written and telephonic notifications to owners who do not bring their vehicles in for corrective action.nhtsa firmly believes that the crash performance of the latches on these minivans raises serious safety concerns, and that the campaign addresses these concerns.the chrysler corrective action will increase the strength of the liftgate latches and decrease the potential for inertial unlatching, thereby reducing the risk of crash-related openings of the liftgate and possible occupant ejection through the liftgate opening.owners of chrysler minivans will get a stronger, safer latch free of charge at the earliest possible time, without the need for further technical investigation and complex and time-consuming litigation with an uncertain outcome.based on the above, odi IS closing this investigation.
