Risk
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the vehicle has been remedied. BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver side air bag module, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 15, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

Risk
In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the vehicle has been remedied. BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front driver air bag module, free of charge. The recall began Aug 2016. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Note: This recall supersedes recall 14V-348 in its entirety. Additionally, vehicles that have had their driver side frontal air bag replaced previously as part of a recall remedy need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well. Note: On December 17, 2015 BMW removed the model year 2004 X5 3.0i and 4.4i Sports Activity vehicle from this recall. Those vehicles were mistakenly identified as including the air bags that are subject to this recall.
On certain passenger vehicles, it IS possible that the distance between the brake line and the steering shaft joint IS not sufficient. if this occurs, the brake line could come into contact with the joint and eventually suffer damage and corrosion.

A loss of brake fluid, indicated by a warning light in the instrument panel, could occur. this will be accompanied by a reduction in front brake performance. this could lead to a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the distance between the brake line and the steering shaft joint, and if necessary, increase the distance. owner notification began june 23, 2003. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact BMW at 1-800-831-1117.

Which ever you choose to call it. when it gets this way it causes the window to pop the crack or break. This has happened twice. my BMW is still in good shape all but the 2 front windows. This needs to be addressed.

The car started losing power while on the road. It got slower and slower, till it finally came to a complete stop. It had to be towed the rest of the way to the house. The engine would start up, but it would not engage any of the gears.

The regulators were all replaced 4 years ago with BMW parts and they are broken again and being replaced again. Reasearching if there IS after market to fix problem with that dowest have the defect bmw's regulators have. The fix IS almost $2000.00 each time. I tried restarting the car and as soon as you put it in gear, you heard the grinding noise. I had it towed to my local mechanic, upon his inspection, the front drive shaft was broken and then discovered that the inside of the transfer case was also stripped. so now I'm stuck with no vehicle, thousands of dollars in repairs, and this IS the second time this has happened to me, the first was in january 2017.

When turning it goes back to normal then right back to problem, also these two error codes have appeared p0600 serial communication link and p1747 can-bus monitoring

The customer of an affected vehicle may fail to pass an I/M test due to a non-compliant 17digit vehicle identification number (VIN) stored in the DME (Digital Motor Electronic). The VIN read out and displayed on the state test printout does not match the actual VIN of the vehicle. If the DME was reprogrammed using the previously available BMW service equipment (e.g., Progman, GT1), it is possible that only the last 7 digits of the VIN were entered into the DME, and positions 4 through10 may only contain default characters. For example: The state I/M tester or OBD scan tool may read out WBAAA00000A123456 instead of the correct full 17-digit VIN, WBAZZ03492A123456.
