General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture.
A separated inflator end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape, resulting in the end cap or other components being propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
Dealers will replace the left and right side RRAB modules, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on August 18, 2021. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy is available. Phase I owner notification letters were mailed on May 5, 2022. Phase II owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on May 31, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. This recall supersedes NHTSA recall number 20V-736. GM's number for this recall is N202324251.
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator.
If the end cap separates from the inflator, the compressed gas will escape and the end cap can be propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the RRAB modules on the left and/or right side, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on December 22, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. Note: GM filed a new recall, number 21V-504 that supersedes this recall. All vehicles previously recalled under 20V-736 will now be repaired under the new recall number 21V-504. GM's numbers for this recall are N202309680, N202309681, and N202309682.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and GMC Sierra 3500 trucks equipped with dual fuel tanks. The low fuel level sensor for the front tank may stick causing the rear tank to overfill the front tank.
If the front tank overfills, the excess pressure may cause the front tank to expand and contact the driveshaft, possibly resulting in a hole in the tank. The hole will leak fuel, which in the presence of an ignition source, can increase the risk of a fire.
GM has notified owners, and dealers will replace the rear tank fuel pump or update the fuel-level sensor software, as well as inspect the front tank, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2017. Owners may contact GM customer service for Chevrolet 1-800-222-1020 or for GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17399.

I own a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD Duramax diesel. At approximately 130,000 miles, the high-pressure CP4 fuel pump failed internally, sending metal shavings throughout the fuel system and contaminating major components. The truck suddenly lost power on the freeway and became inoperable without warning. I was barely able to get out of traffic before it had to be towed to a Chevrolet dealership. This created a serious safety hazard, especially considering the risk if it had happened while towing my fifth wheel with my family. A failure like this should not happen at this mileage on a heavy-duty diesel truck. I also cannot afford the extremely high cost of repairing the entire fuel system. From my research, many other owners have experienced the same CP4 fuel pump failure, which often destroys the entire fuel system and leads to very expensive repairs. I believe this is a widespread defect, not normal wear and tear. I ask NHTSA to review these failures and take action to protect vehicle owners from similar dangerous and costly failures. This truck currently sits at the dealership as I cannot afford the repairs and GM will not fix what they know is faulty parts.
Truck was operating on the highway at highway speed. Suddenly the truck went into a drastic engine power reduction mode and severe automatic downshifting occurred; the truck came to a complete stop on the highway. Diagnostics proved to be a CP4 injector pump failure sending metal into the fuel system, needing a complete contamination kit and new CP3 pump conversion. This apparently is a known defect in GM vehicles and should have been recalled.
The 2nd stage of this truck was not completed and the title was done in fraud in 2015 by Jon Hall Chevy in Daytona. I need this inspected as it shouldn't be on the road. Only 1 MCO without water Marks on it. this is a 2 stage truck should have 2. but nope only one we are getting the run around.
Catastrophic failure of the CP4 fuel pump
Exhaust filter plugged due to turbo not working properly. Been at dealership going on 7 weeks This is the 3rd new vehicle we have had this has happened to.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the message "Fuel Filter Needed to be Replaced" followed by the "Engine Power Reduced" were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact then stated that fuel started leaking from the vehicle and the vehicle stalled. The contact was left stranded in the middle of the road; a tow truck was called, and the vehicle was towed to an independent diesel mechanic. The mechanic performed a diagnostic test, and the contact was informed that the fuel pump had disintegrated which caused debris from the fuel pump to leak into the fuel system. The contact was provided an estimate to replace the fuel pump, fuel pump filter, fuel pump housing, and the fuel injectors. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NTHSA Hotline to file a complaint. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 270,000.
A rear defrost system malfunctioned and was smoking in the interior of the vehicle followed by the rear glass shattering. The electrical malfunction could have easily started a fire and glass flying around the cab a highway speeds could definitely be hazard. I called the dealership and they were unconcerned and gave me a quote to replace it. the dealer or the aftermarket glass replacement company have not heard of it happening. I did find a recall in Canada. Strangely enough mine was done in Canada and it happened again.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed that the instrument panel was inoperable. The contact stated that the instrument panel failed to function properly while attempting to activate the windshield wiper. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuse block had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,100.
The brake pedal pivot bolt nut loosened itself and came off of the bolt, allowing the bolt to back out of the pedal mount and the brake pedal fell out of position and became lodged behind the accelerator pedal. Thankfully no accident occurred. After performing research with local dealer and independent repair shop it was found to be an obvious repeat failure of the General Motors safety recall #20760E already performed on the vehicle. I reached out to GM customer support who were rude and I received no help in the matter. Can provide more information upon request.
Cooper Discoverer STT Pro (LT295/55R20/10). Driving south bout on Meadowbrook State Parkway about 1/2 mile north of the Southern State Parkway in New York State (Long Island) when a catstrophic failure of the front right tire occurred without warning or provocation. Tires were about 18 months old and had about 25000 miles on them. All traffic was at extreme risk with the sudden blow out at highway speed. The tire failed in its entirety becoming completely separated! I struggled to maintain control of the vehicle while avoiding contact with other vehicles barely managing to get off the road. This tire was most likely defective and should not have failed. The vehicle was towed with the help of AAA to Mavis Discount tire who replaced the tires with a different brand. The seller and manufacturer customer service was god awful and didn't care. All four tires had to be replaced. NO warning indicators were present at any time. The cause of the catastrophic failure is unknown but like I said the tire appears to have been defective. There was no contact or damage prior to the failure. I have pictures of the failed tire.
Bosch CP4 fuel pump failed 400 miles from home leaving us stranded. We were towed in and spent thousands of dollars and 5 weeks to have the truck repaired. Only warning was that the truck was losing power and barely got off the road.
CP4 fuel pump failed while driving 250 miles from home. It was towed in and diagnosed, resulting in over $12,000.00 Dollars to replace fuel system due to metal pumped into fuel system. The mechanic sent the pump back as a core charge. We were stranded and freezing with our dog and towed in after several hours. The only warning was the vehicle was reducing power and I was able to get off the highway.
2015 chevy 3500 HD has 65,xxx miles on it currently. truck periodically and usually randomly displays a "service trailer brake" message which constantly goes off when nothing IS being towed. now about 1 in 15 times driven will it not display this message. ive had the towing brake module replaced and that did not fix this problem. I'm at my wits end with this truck. Chevrolet / GMC need to step up and make this widely known problem a recall. thanks
As I am driving I am routinely warned about the trailer brake system with or without a trailer hooked up. It is distracting and could cause potential danger while driving. It has been going on for some time and progressively getting worse.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the High-Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact was advised that the HPFP were on national back order. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21E101000 (Fuel System, Diesel). The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
There are several problems I’ve noticed some I fix myself! First of all, I was driving my truck at night on the country road and all of a sudden it starts losing power shut down on me on a little road with no pull over spots in Kentucky and just dies completely. My service charging system light came on. I worked on this forever. I noticed it. All of my grounds were completely nasty and pretty much not making contact. I fix the ones that I can find only two I know there’s more, I’ve changed the generator three times and the battery once, the problem happened again and again and again the only way I can stop my truck from dying is when that light come on if I got out and I took the negative wire off of my battery and then put it back on it would run again for about another three days and then if I didn’t see it, I’m stranded very dangerous. Finally I took it to my mechanic up the road and he basically did the same things. I did something about a door switch also though not another battery another generator and he added new battery cables so far it hasn’t done it again. Now my truck when starting to slow down, it will vibrate and shake you to death. You hit a little vibration in the road say a rumble strip. This thing will shake you through the roof in about make you run into another Vehicle , also, it’s hard to fill up the gas if you have to turn the gas nozzle almost straight up and down if you’re low on gas to make it except it or you’ll be sitting there for 30 minutes putting gas in your truck. I noticed also all of my wheels are having rough spots on them everywhere and they are rusting into . Another thing that happens this truck eats breaks for breakfast. I have put in the past two years at least have the change the brakes, calipers rotors and all twice a year sometimes three times a year. Also, the trailer brake system light comes on nonstop along with a service stability track on when happen. No Wasey no cruise control. I am a masterelect. Maintain truck it ju
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while towing a camper, the brakes locked up. The service trailer brake system message was displayed. There was an abnormal beeping noise detected and the instrument cluster was flashing. While driving approximately 60 MPH, the vehicle was vibrating. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but the mechanic was unable to assist. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
Airbag light on dash came up. I can't find the problem on the recall list
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The power steering. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was unable to steer the vehicle properly, this poses obvious risk while driving. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? It has happened to me several times. It has not been reproduced by a third party. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warnings. No known issues.
My trailer braking system gives off warnings that it's not connected to the trailer when I don't have the trailer connected. But I was towing my trailer and as I stepped on the break it was giving me that warning and the brake system was failing to engage on the trailer I reviewed this on forums and everybody IS having this problem it has been going on from about 2011 on the chevrolet and gmc's for GMC and chevrolet says there IS no problem people have switched out the dashboard switch and it returns it comes and goes as a problem.
TL* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet silverado 3500. The contact stated while parked, the high-pressure fuel pump failed without warning. The contact stated he heard an abnormal noise and turned off and restarted the vehicle however, the vehicle shutoff without warning. The contact had the vehicle towed to woodland chevrolet (530 quality cir, woodland, ca 95776) where the vehicle was diagnosed with a high-pressure fuel pump failure. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 180,000.
Engine loss power while pulling a loaded horse trailer around 10,000 pounds. error message saying power has been reduced. the top speed while on a hill was abiut 15 miles an hour.tractor traillers had to manuver around me due to the low speed on an expressway with 70 mile an hour speed limit. the dealer said cause was fraying of the wiring harness probably around the turbo. after research on the internet, I found this was a frequent problem. truck only has 43,000 miles on it. I have requested the old wiring harness for inspection.
At high way speeds approx. 67 mph to 80 truck starts to vibrate very badly. Taken to tire shop and balance checks fine. Found that this yr and make gm has had vibration issues. around 2017 truck was taken to gm dealer and they had to replace transmission torq converter was bad also.
CP4 fuel pump failure and engine failure- started truck that morning, 5 min later it shut off and hasn't started again. Hub exploded making 4wheel drive impossible when driving down hey. Ac blender stopped working ac vents blow hot air on right side of dash while in motion.
TL* the contact owns a 2015 chevrolet silverado 3500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact coasted to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to pinegar chevrolet buick GMC of branson (163 adair rd, branson, mo 65616, (866) 311-4731) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel system was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact of an ongoing class action lawsuit however, the vin was not included. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.
