While towing a 24-foot Spartan enclosed racing trailer carrying a Bandolero race car and related equipment on [XXX], I began to feel a slight vibration from the vehicle or trailer. At first, I believed the vibration may have been caused by the road surface, but it steadily intensified. I slowed the truck to approximately 50 mph and activated my hazard lights. I could not initially determine whether the vibration was coming from the truck or trailer. Because I was concerned it could be tire-related, I monitored the truck’s tire-pressure display while my boyfriend monitored the trailer tire pressures. Neither system showed an abnormal pressure reading at that time. Shortly afterward, I heard a loud bang and safely moved onto the highway shoulder. After stopping, I observed that one of the truck tires had lost air pressure. The truck’s tire-pressure monitoring system then displayed zero pressure for that tire. I walked along the shoulder and found the tire tread completely separated from the tire casing several hundred feet behind the vehicle. I recovered and retained the separated tread. The tire remaining on the wheel/rim was missing the tread section that I recovered, indicating a complete tread delamination. The tires were installed on the vehicle when I purchased it on XXX. The vehicle had slightly more than 47,000 miles at the time of the incident, and the tires were original equipment tires. I took the vehicle to an OEM body shop for damage estimates. The body shop measured the remaining tire tread and determined that the tire wear was within reasonable specifications. The estimated total damage to the vehicle is $9,920.60. My [XXX] son and my boyfriend were traveling with me at the time of the incident. Although we were able to move safely to the shoulder, this tire failure created a serious safety concern while towing a loaded enclosed trailer on the highway. Tire size: LT275/65R20. LT235/80R17 I had the inside dual tire separate and blow out causing damage to my vehicle I was pulling a trailer on interstate and took a bit to find a place to safely get off highway I contacted kenda per my tire shop instructions they wanted me to send them the tire which I sent what was left of it and they came back denying the claim said I drove with low air pressure I have tpms sensors so I would have known if I had a low tire pressure in the meantime I bout two new tires and placed them on front of truck since then I have had two of the same tires separate and loose all tread I fortunately caught them before they blew out contacted kenda warranty and now they are telling me the tread was too low I have the last tires of that batch and still have tread these tires were rotated every 5000 miles at oil changes by the company I purchased tires from
The Engine Cooler has a know defect that GM has put out service bulletins for. The engine cooler is cracking, mixing oil and antifreeze that is creating a sludge that runs thru the entire system. GM wants techs to attempt to clean/flush the engine before they approve a new engine to be ordered under warranty. GM is aware of the problem and there should be a recall out on the problem according to the service manager I spoke with at the dealership my truck is at currently. I was told the expected time frame is up to 3 months for the work to be completed, with no loaner available that is equivalent to the vehicle that went to the shop. The recall is necessary because if the engine has a major failure while driving it could cause an accident, if the vehicle is hauling a heavy trailer that could be detrimental because the truck can haul up to 40,000 GCWR.
The infotainment/control module in my 2024 Silverado 3500HD failed unexpectedly while I was traveling cross-country. The module is available for inspection upon request. Prior to the failure, I did not receive any warning lamps or messages. When the system failed, I lost access to multiple camera systems integrated into the vehicle, including backup and visibility-assistance cameras used to aid lane changes, parking, maneuvering, and identifying obstacles around the truck. Due to the size and height of this vehicle, these cameras provide important visibility of areas that are difficult to observe directly, including pedestrians, cyclists, and children who may be below the driver's line of sight. The loss of these camera systems reduced situational awareness and increased the risk of a collision while backing, changing lanes, or operating the vehicle in crowded areas. The failure also disabled navigation, hands-free functions, audio, WiFi connectivity, and access to vehicle settings controlled through the infotainment system. The vehicle was inspected by a Chevrolet dealer in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The dealer attempted a software reflash to correct the issue; however, the procedure rendered the unit completely inoperable. The dealer confirmed that the module required replacement and quoted an estimated repair cost of approximately $1,500. The required replacement part was unavailable, and despite contacting numerous Chevrolet dealerships, I was unable to obtain a repair during my trip. As a result, I was required to continue operating the vehicle while towing a large trailer for an extended period without the camera systems and related functionality. I have also become aware of GM Service Bulletin PIC6630B, which indicates that GM has identified this failure mode and that it is not an isolated occurrence. Given that a single module failure can disable multiple safety features, I request that it be evaluated by an independent authority accordingly.
moved the truck on to the lawn and put it in park turned truck off. got out of the truck and went into the garage and 5 min later came out and saw the truck started to roll and went 50 ft and hit a tree.
Transmission has shifting issues (hard shifts) . Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety could be an issue if the transmission fails while driving that could cause harm to the vehicle driver and put others at risk. Vehicle is scheduled for inspection however the dealer is very backlogged.
I was driving down the XXX Expressway Sunday, XXX, with my children in my vehicle. This is a very heavily traveled highway in [XXX] with heavy traffic. My 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 Diesel HD Truck with 25,500 miles suddenly started throwing multiple codes, lost power, and steering. Fortunately I was able to "roll into" the emergency lane while muscling the steering in that direction and engaged the emergency brake. My other son was following shortly behind me in his vehicle and pulled over to assist us about 30 mins after my truck was sitting stalled in the HWY. He parked his truck behind mine, put on his hazards, and we were transferring gear from my truck to his truck. At this point my 2024 Chevy HD Silverado Diesel started rolling back on it's own and nearly crushed my son's friend. The parking break was on and it suddenly released on it's own. It took 3 grown men to stop it from crushing my son's friend. The force was so strong that when he lifted his hand to try to stop the truck from rolling, it broke the right rear tail light. He could have been crushed between our two trucks from this situation. I have never been notified by GM of any recalls, however, the truck had to be towed to Ferman Cheverlotte service on Adamo Dr, Tampa Fl and is currently sitting on their lot. I was told by the service tech Michael Stevens that the vehicle had several open recalls that they would address but did not offer any information about what could be wrong. After searching online, I found that GM IS aware of this issue and sent several service bulletins about this exact problem. I had contacted the Ferman service center the week before to bring the truck in because the AC was out and made an appointment for service on Tuesday. The day after I made the appointment my batteries died and had to be replaced by AAA.It is disturbing to know GM and FERMAN Service centers are aware of this safety issue on these HD trucks and never informed me, the consumer. Leaking break fluid on my feet with sponge breaks dealer absolutely no help
Trailer brakes and lights come and go. I start with having everything then loose brakes and lights when I’m driving. This is apparently a known issue that they have a fix for but I have never received anything about a recall.
REAR WHEEL LOCKUP: While driving down the highway pulling a loaded trailer the rear wheels locked up, GM has an open recall on 2020-2022 models but denies its an issue with the 2024 model, my dealership pushed a “software update” but that does not fix the faulty transmission valve body issue, it just overrides the safety features that were designed to protect the transmission. I have a video of it occurring while slowing down for a stop sign when it did it the second time to me.
The engine oil cooler failed causing engine oil to leak into the coolant system on my 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500HD. This requires a full replacement of the coolant system. In addition, excessive sludge buildup inside the motor is caused. This is a known issue with GM for 2024 Diesel vehicles. GM has released a service bulletin but is fighting my local dealership on the required repairs.
No Owners Manual came with my Truck. I was made aware of Safety Recall 25V815 (Manufacturer Recall N252532020) which addressed 2025-2026 cars and trucks. Currently my 2024 is not included. I can confirm my dealer did not receive any owners manuals for most cars and trucks in 2024. I notified Chevrolet Customer Service and they did not assist. They Dealer was unable to assist and would not reimburse me for the Owners Manual I purchased. I am requesting reimbursement for the purchase of an Owners Manual.
Vehicle was making a very loud humming noise at 73 mph. After returning to the dealership they found that the bearings in the rear end house had destroyed themselves causing internal damage to the housing and the entire rear end now needs to be replaced.
NHTSA Vehicle Safety Complaint I am reporting a serious transmission defect in my 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD LT that creates a high risk of sudden power loss, erratic shifting, or loss of control while driving. Vehicle Details: - Make/Model/Year: Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD LT, 2024 - VIN: 2GC4YTEYXR1263768 - Engine: 6.6L Duramax diesel - Transmission: 10-speed Allison (10L1000) - Mileage at diagnosis: ~46,000 miles - Title: Rebuilt (warranty denied due to branding) Defect Description: The transmission shifts normally when cold (fluid below ~138°F). Once warm (during normal driving), it fails to upshift properly in gears 5-8: holds lower gears, causes high RPMs (3,000+), delays shifts excessively, or refuses to shift. When shifts occur, they are hard and jerky. Automatic (Drive) mode is affected; manual/L mode works normally as a workaround. No warning lights appeared initially, but the issue has worsened and is now frequent at operating temperature. Diagnosis: On January 28, 2026, Seminole GM (1405 N Milt Phillips, Seminole, OK 74868; 405-382-6130) diagnosed a defective valve body requiring replacement. Quote: - Valve Body Control Module (Part #24065357): $687.48 - Transmission Fluid (12 qt @ $10.92): $131.04 - Labor (diagnosis + pan/filter/relearn): $805.50 - Supplies/taxes: ~$140 - Total: $1,763.94 Dealer confirmed this is a common issue; photos of quote available for upload. Safety Risks: At highway speeds, delayed/no upshifts can cause: - Sudden inability to accelerate (merging, passing, hills) - Harsh engagement leading to wheel slip or loss of control - Potential limp mode entry, stranding in low gears This intermittent warm-only failure is unpredictable and dangerous. Context: This matches widespread complaints on 2023-2025 GM HD trucks with the 10L1000 (forums: DuramaxForum, Reddit r/Duramax/r/Silverado, GM-Trucks.com), involving valve body wear/pressure loss. Earlier years had related recalls (e.g., NHTSA 24V-797 for valve issues),
This vehicle was purchased with 10,000 miles from a Chevrolet dealer. At 13,000 miles the transmission started making an awful noise. Up a service check it was found that the transmission pump was failing.
Email Subject I am reporting a serious safety-related defect involving sudden and complete vehicle shutdown while driving in a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST. Component/System Involved: The failure appears related to the 12-volt electrical system and associated vehicle control electronics. When the vehicle detects the 12V battery as dead or critically low, it immediately disables propulsion and control systems. The exact failed component is UNKNOWN. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Incident Description: This failure has occurred twice under similar conditions (ambient temperature approximately 25°F). On November 28, 2024 and again on January 2, 2026, after driving approximately two blocks at low residential speeds, the vehicle abruptly and completely shut down while in motion. In both incidents, the shutdown was immediate, without warning, and accompanied by a loud thud and an extremely abrupt stop. Safety Risk: In both incidents, the vehicle became completely immobilized in the roadway. I was unable to steer to the side of the road, restart the vehicle, or shift it into gear to move it out of traffic. This created a significant risk of collision. A similar failure at highway speeds could result in a severe or fatal crash. Warnings or Prior Symptoms: No warning lamps, messages, alerts, or other symptoms appeared prior to either shutdown. Problem Confirmation or Reproduction: The issue has occurred twice under cold-weather conditions. Inspections: After the first incident, the 12V battery was inspected and no issues were found. Following the second incident, the vehicle is currently being inspected at a Chevrolet dealership. No police or insurance inspections were performed. This behavior suggests the vehicle lacks a fail-safe or degraded-operation mode for 12V system failure and instead performs an immediate shutdown while in motion, which may represent a serious safety defect warranting investigation.
At approximately 35,126 miles the oil cooler cracked and flooded my engine cooling system with over 2.5 gallons of oil causing catastrophic engine failure.
When pulling my trailer with my 2024 chevy 3500, I get the following alert displayed on my screen periodically: Trailer Brakes Disabled Service Required. The trailer brakes stop working on my 16000lb trailer and I need to pull off the road and shut off the truck, and then restart it to get my brakes working again. The dealer replaced the brake controller in the truck, but I still get the message. I towed this trailer across country 2 times in my 2020 chevy without a problem. I have hydrastar brakes on my 2022 keystone Montana. GM said it's a problem with the trailer. Hydrastar said they have had numerous reports from 2024 GM truck owners. I am bringing it back to the GM dealer Monday for an oil change but I was informed they have no further information to guide them Please assist.
I was driving on the interstate at around 65mph. Towing my fifth wheel. Transmission started shifting hard with a loud bang that sounded like we hit a huge pothole. A message popped up in the screen indicating “Reduced acceleration, drive with caution”. The transmission seems to be stuck in gear as we exited the highway. Check engine light was on. Came to a stop at a stop sign and barely had enough power to pull into a parking lot. We had the truck towed to a nearby dealership. Fault codes P0700 and P0747 were present. Service advisor said valve body would have to be rebuilt. It’s been 2 weeks and the valve body cover plate is still “backordered” with no estimated in stock date.
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated, and the transmission failed to properly shift. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who discovered metal shavings inside the fuel filter and diagnosed that the High-Pressure Fuel Pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The high-pressure fuel pump was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. Later, while hauling a trailer on the highway, the vehicle unexpectedly stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel pump control module had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 19,000.
The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the message “Trailer Brakes Disabled” was displayed. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed the contact the vehicle was operating as designed, and that neither the vehicle nor the trailer would be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000.
I keep getting a chunking noise coming from the rear of vehicle. Twice I have taking in to the dealer and I was told this condition may be caused by movement between the anchor plate and axle assembly. They have re-torqueing the joints of the leaf springs assembly. it coming loose. It has happened after 4,000 miles. This tells me that it can come loose while I am driving! GM has a service document ID: 5501065. It has been happening since 2020!
10-speed automatic transmission valve body failure at 41k Parts are unavailable nor are replacement transmissions. Dealership says 3 months
When driving my truck and towing a trailer which has elec. over hyd. brakes and trying to stop. My truck will disable my brakes on my trailer, which may weigh 3+ times the weight of my truck. GM had a recall on the truck brake module which fixed my problem. Then l took my truck back for an oil change a few months later and they said that there is a open recall on the brake module (NEWER UPDATE) which once again caused my brake issues again with the newer recall. l have opened up a complaint with GM and they say take it to a GM dealer. The dealer checks the truck out and says there is no problem with the truck. They tell me that l need to install a module on my trailer ,which l did early on with the problem. l did own a 2017 chevy and pulled that trailer with NO issues. The trailer dealer hooked the trailer to a 2018 GMC and a 2016 Dodge pick-up. And had NO problem with the trailer brakes and put a NYS inspection sticker on my trailer LAST MONTH. We !! the trailer dealer and myself have spoken to the company ( brake module) that GM says that l need. This trailer brake module which the trailer dealer installed in Feb 2024 still did not fix my problem. The brake module company told me GM has His words a HORNETS NEST problem with this issue. Someone is going to loose there brakes and KILL somebody or a family Thank You for any HELP [XXX] Please contact with any feedback or info INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The brakes on this vehicle are very spongy, they have to be pushed all the way to the floor to get the vehicle to stop. When pulling a trailer you are on pins and needles wondering if you can get the truck to stop. The trailer brakes are doing most of the stopping. I have owned many trucks and the brakes on this 2024 Chevy Silverado 3500 are the worst that I have ever experienced. This is a Safety hazard with serious implications. I have talked to many other people with the same truck and they also claim that the brake system is faulty and/or sub standard. I have taken my truck back to the dealer and they claim that the brakes are working normal (test driving around their service lot). This is a serious problem that needs to be investigated by your orginazation. Thank you in advance for any insight on this serious brake issue.
