Extreme operating conditions could cause premature deterioration of the engine compartment heater hoses or engine bypass hoses.
Engine coolant could discharge onto the engine and itsexhaust manifold creating the potential for a fire due to the high engineexhaust manifold temperatures.
Replace hoses and radiator caps; install high heat resistance aluminized stainless steel mufflers.
Vehicles are subject to excessive underhood temperatures and fuel system pressures in severe duty applications.
This creates potential for fuel expulsion from the fuelfiller pipe which in the presence of an ignition source, could result in afire.
Install modification kits to minimize possibility of fuel expulsion and to shield underbody components from exhaust system heat.
Rubber that encases ball stud and socket joint (connects steering drag link and pitman arm) may deteriorate and cause metal to metal contact. consequence of defect: complete separation of the drag…
Install new drag link assemblies with steel ball and socket joints at the pitman arm connections.
When frontally impacted into a fixed barrier at 30 mph, as specified in federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) no. 301, the left frame rails of such vehicles may displace inboard, pinching the fuel/water separator canister between the frame rail and engine sufficiently to displace the fuel/water separator drain rod, allowing the contents…
Install a canister shield, a revised design drain rod shield, and modify fuel/water separator mounting bracket.
Vehicle fire due to possible ignition switch failure.

Synopsis: under certain operating conditions, fuel IS expelled from thefuel filler pipe, when the filler cap IS removed. It has been reportedthat vehicle fires and personal injuries have resulted. The problemappears to be one of excessive heat collecting under the vehicles, usuallywhile stationary with the engines idling or being operated under extremeservice conditions. This heat causes the fuel to vaporize in the fueltank and develop pressures in excess of what the fuel tank vent systemcan handle.status: by letter dated 9/9/87, ford notified nhtsa of recall of 188,000e-250 & E-350 vehicles to install partial version of M-53A ambulance recallkit(87v-144)===
Summary of information from manufacturer:instances were found wherespring lock couplings failed causing gasoline to be released throughoutthe engine compartment causing fires.leaks from fuel lines may also be acontributing cause to the engine compartment fires.---------------------------------------------------------------------------analysis:data indicates that the alleged problem may be caused by thespring lock quick connect couplings which connect the fuel supply andreturn lines to the engine as well as fuel leakage from the fuel lines.---------------------------------------------------------------------------proposed action: upgrade this pe to an ea.(ea87-020)===
