The Center Display Audio / Infotainment Touchscreen unit continuously fails. The component is available for inspection upon request, as it remains installed in the vehicle in its malfunctioning state. Safety severely compromised due to extreme driver distraction caused by the unit erratically flashing, cycling through menus, and emitting continuous, loud audible beeps while operating the vehicle in active traffic. Additionally, the malfunction regularly causes the screen to freeze, completely disabling the rearview backup camera display and preventing the visual display of critical advanced driver-assist safety alerts. Yes. The failure was officially reproduced and confirmed by an authorized Honda dealership during a dedicated diagnostic appointment. The technician confirmed the erratic screen input behavior but noted it is a known manufacturer defect. Yes, it was inspected by the manufacturer's authorized dealership network. Furthermore, the manufacturer has inspected and documented this specific component failure at a corporate engineering level, tracking the defect under Honda Tech Line Summary Article AATS31549. There were no vehicle warning lamps or diagnostic trouble messages on the instrument cluster. The primary symptoms were rapid, unprompted audio beeping sounds and sudden menu changes occurring without anyone touching the screen. These symptoms began intermittently during periods of warmer weather and have since escalated into a permanent, continuous failure.
Vehicle: 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport (VIN: [XXX]) Dealer: Rauli Auto Import LLC (Paterson, NJ, License [XXX]) Odometer at Sale: 141,836 miles Description of Severe Safety Defect and Resulting Accident: On October 16, 2026, this 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid was purchased from a used car dealership. The vehicle was delivered to the consumer with severe, pre-existing, and undisclosed braking system defects that made the vehicle an immediate safety hazard on public roads. On [XXX], just days after taking delivery, the vehicle was brought to an independent, licensed mechanic (Mega Auto Diagnostic Inc., Invoice [XXX]) due to severe handling and braking concerns. Following a certified inspection, the licensed technician officially documented catastrophic pre-existing safety failures on the vehicle. The mechanic certified that the vehicle had an active engine leak, completely failed front brakes, and completely worn-down rear brakes and rotors. The dealership sold the vehicle in a hazardous condition without performing mandatory safety inspections. Days after the mechanic's diagnosis, while attempting to park the vehicle, the pre-existing braking system failure caused a complete braking malfunction. The brakes did not respond as intended to slow down the vehicle, causing the driver to lose stopping control and collide with another parked vehicle. Furthermore, the dealership provided completely incorrect, mismatched insurance policy paperwork at the time of sale. When the consumer contacted the insurance provider to process the accident, the insurer flagged a profile error due to the mismatched data entered by the dealer, leaving the driver completely exposed at the moment of the mechanical failure and collision. The dealership has reacted with hostility, verbally insulted the consumer, and refused to accept the surrender of this dangerously defective vehicle or unwind the sales contract INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I am filing a complaint regarding a 2002 Honda Accord 2.0T purchased as a certified used vehicle in April 2026. The infotainment system is flawed and frequently malfunctions. I experience frequent, quick, sporadic display changes I am not commanding. The system will even turn itself back on after being turned off. These episodes continue for days and prove to be very distracting while operating the vehicle. I have contacted two different dealers in my area, both responded this is a "known issue" and Honda is no longer accepting warranty claims. I have contacted Honda corporate, received a response from an engineering contact which confirmed Honda is aware of the issues and does not have a solution. The vehicle is four years old this month, October 2026. It does not appear Honda is either actively pursuing a solution or willing to provide any type of financial compensation. Additionally, this vehicle is still covered by the certified warranty and extended warranty which cover electronics. Neither warranty is being honored for this issue. Judging from various online message board and social media accounts, this has been a widespread problem for owners of this and other Honda models manufactured during the same time. I determine this issue not only to be a safety hazard, but a breach of contract in reference to not honoring its two warranties. I have short video files of at least three instances I am able to share. Your site does not accept video files.
The vehicle infotainment system has known issues to Honda and is glitchy to the point that it’s distracting to drive the vehicle. The system locks frequently, glitches between applications, engages Car Play applications like Apple’s Siri, and constantly takes my attention away from the road to deal with these issues. This constant distraction puts myself, my passengers, and other drivers at risk. This problem first started to appear ~ 2 years ago and has gotten significantly worse over time. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a Honda dealership and no resolution has been offered.
The touchscreen infotainment display in my 2022 Honda Accord is malfunctioning and is available for inspection on request. For many months it has registered touches I never made ("phantom touch"). It changes screens on its own, cancels active GPS navigation, closes or switches other features, and presses buttons, including the voice command button, while I'm using other functions. Safety risk: Because the screen acts on its own while the car is moving, navigation drops out mid-route and the voice assistant activates unexpectedly. I have to look at the screen and fix it instead of watching the road, which is a serious distraction, or I am forced to look at my phone for continuing the GPS navigation because it is no longer registering on the display screen. Dealer confirmation: I have not yet taken it to a dealer, as the dealership that I purchased the car at said it would cost $228.00 just for the diagnostic. Other inspections: Not yet inspected by police or insurance. Warning signs: No warning lamps or messages appear. The only symptom is the erratic touch behavior, which first appeared around 2023 and has become more frequent. I have photos/video of the behavior available. This matches many other owner complaints about 2021-2022 Accords, and I believe it should be investigated as a defect and the repair should be covered for free as a recall.
The infotainment touchscreen in my 2022 Honda Accord Sport experiences phantom or ghost touches. The screen changes menus on its own without driver input. It switches audio sources, changes settings, interrupts Apple CarPlay, and becomes unresponsive to touch commands. The problem occurs while driving and causes significant driver distraction because I must look away from the road to determine what the system is doing. The issue affects navigation, phone functions, and audio controls. This is a known problem affecting many 2018-2022 Honda Accords. Honda has acknowledged similar ghost-touch symptoms in technical communications, but no recall has been issued. The defect creates a safety risk by diverting driver attention from the roadway.
The infotainment system and center touchscreen display unit on my 2022 Honda Accord suffer a severe component failure commonly referred to as "Ghost Touch". The screen touches by itself so the radio, map, everything in the menu change by itself. Sometime, the radio turns on/off by itself too. When this happen, the touchscreen becomes unresponsive or freeze. This defect severely puts my safety and the safety of others at risk by creating extreme, unpredictable driver distractions. The sound of this "Ghost Touch" is pretty loud. I have brought it to the dealer, Vandergriff Honda, many times and they told me to wait for recall. They said if I would like to try by replacing the auto head unit and display, it will cost $6,511.31 as my car is over 3 years warranty. I contacted Honda Corporate, and they said replacing the auto head unit and display may still bring the same problems; therefore, they told me to wait. This is a severe manufacturing defect on my 2022 Honda Accord. It started on February 2026, often during summer when it is very hot. So far, I have not get into any accident but driving this car makes me worry and all I can do is wait for recall.
The infotainment system glitches and will not respond to touch or will have phantom “touches” where the system will make inputs on its own. This is worse when it’s really hot and was told by dealership that this is due to components overheating and malfunctioning, and it requires the full system to be replaced. This can be a major safety issue when driving the vehicle.
Oct.6 2026 Driving down Burbank Bl the car braked on its own with a huge jolt. I felt my neck whip. There was no danger of hitting a car in front and the weather was clear. The car behind me almost hit me. Oct.7, 2026 Driving up Magnolia bl with a passenger the car again braked unexpectedly jolting us whipping our necks. There was no danger of collision and there was no reason for the car to brake. Both times the orange brake light lit up on the dash. I will be taking the car in to the dealer. I became aware there's a federal investigation for this happening with multiple cars. I will also be going to the urgent care with my passenger tonight as the neck pain has increased.
While driving my Honda on a highway at approximately 65 mph after rainfall, I experienced a serious and potentially life-threatening safety failure. Without warning, the steering wheel suddenly became locked/restricted, making it extremely difficult to control the vehicle. At the same time, numerous warning lights and safety-system warnings appeared, including: - Brake system warning - Electric Power Steering (EPS) warning - Vehicle Stability Assist warning - Hill Start Assist warning - Adaptive Cruise Control warning - Lane Keeping Assist warning - Collision Mitigation Braking System warning - Road Departure Mitigation warning This incident occurred while I was traveling approximately 65 mph on the highway and nearly caused me to lose control and crash. The sudden loss/restriction of steering control combined with the simultaneous failure or disabling of multiple driver-assistance and safety systems created an extremely dangerous situation. The fact that this occurred after driving in rainy/wet conditions is also concerning. I have researched this issue online and found numerous reports from other Honda owners describing similar warning lights, steering/electric power steering problems, and multiple safety-system failures, particularly involving Honda Accord vehicles. I am extremely concerned that this may represent a recurring safety-related defect rather than an isolated incident. A steering system that can suddenly become locked or severely restricted while a vehicle is traveling at highway speed presents a serious risk of a crash, injury, or loss of life. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this issue, review complaints involving similar Honda vehicles, and determine whether there is a common defect involving the electric power steering system, electrical system, water intrusion, or communication between the vehicle's safety-control modules. This problem needs to be investigated before someone is seriously injured or killed.Best regards.
Infotainment Center is completely unusable and a safety hazard. It constantly glitches and clicks random buttons on its own.
I wasn’t driving in my batteries started to smoke and smell burning bad!!
The center display / infotainment touchscreen on my 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid Sport experiences repeated “phantom” or “ghost” touches. The screen registers inputs that are not being made by the driver or any passenger. This causes the system to randomly change audio sources (e.g., Bluetooth to AM/FM), open or close menus and apps, start or stop navigation, adjust volume, make unintended phone calls, and emit repeated beeping sounds. At the same time, the screen frequently becomes unresponsive or only partially responsive to actual intentional touches. This occurs most often (and most severely) when outside temperatures are hot. The display is mounted in the center of the dashboard and has a thin black plastic backing that absorbs heat, which appears to contribute to the malfunction. The problem was identified, demonstrated, and witnessed by the Honda dealership while the vehicle was still under the original factory warranty and had fewer than 20,000 miles. No parts have been replaced. The vehicle is now out of warranty. Dealership personnel indicated it is a known issue that has been escalated to regional Honda representatives and Honda engineering, that replacing the unit will not permanently fix the problem, and that no known permanent solution currently exists. This is a significant safety concern. The unexpected and continuous changes on the screen force the driver to look away from the road to try to correct the system or regain control of audio/navigation functions. There is no physical button or easy way to completely disable the touchscreen while driving. The distraction has created multiple near-miss situations. I have video documentation of the behavior occurring. Similar complaints from other 2018–2022 Honda Accord (including Hybrid) owners appear online and in public complaint databases. The design of the capacitive touchscreen / digitizer appears susceptible to heat-related failure or false inputs, and Honda has not issued a recall or effective techn
My 2022 Honda Accord has an ongoing issue with the infotainment touchscreen making selections on its own without being touched, commonly referred to as “ghost touch.” The screen randomly presses buttons, changes menus, changes audio/settings, and interferes with Apple CarPlay and normal touchscreen operation. The issue occurs repeatedly and can be very distracting while driving because the screen operates on its own and requires attention to correct or stop it. Restarting the system does not permanently resolve the problem. I am reporting this because it creates a driver-distraction/safety concern and I would like the issue documented and investigated.
The infotainment center screen flickers and beeps and turns the radio on and off while I’m driving, creating a distraction that makes driving difficult and unsafe. I have reported this issue since I bought the car new in January 2022 to the dealer and they say the manufacturer is aware of it but has come up with no solution. The issue would temporarily stop for a few months at a time but has become consistent now. The navigation and GPS are nonfunctional. The issue has become so extreme that I am afraid of driving the car. The dealer has examined the car several times in The past theee years, always saying that that Honda is working in a solution.
The infotainment touchscreen/display system in my 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid is malfunctioning and experiences repeated false or “ghost/phantom” touches even though nobody is touching the screen. The system makes selections and changes functions on its own. The problem has gotten progressively worse over time, with a significant increase during the summer of 2026, particularly during hot weather. This creates a safety concern and significant driving distraction. When the phantom touches occur, I cannot reliably use the vehicle's hands-free phone system or map/navigation display. Because the map becomes unreliable, I sometimes have to look down at my phone rather than using the vehicle's display. The system has also initiated phone calls on its own. During phone calls, it will randomly activate the mute function without me touching the screen, causing me to look at the display and attempt to correct the problem while driving. These malfunctions interfere with hands-free features intended to reduce driver distraction. I showed a video of the malfunction to personnel at a Honda dealership. A service representative/manager told me that the dealership has seen this problem on multiple vehicles and has replaced screens and/or infotainment units without necessarily correcting the problem. He also indicated that the problem appears to occur more frequently or become worse with heat. My vehicle has not yet received a formal diagnostic inspection for this issue. There were no warning lamps or warning messages before the malfunction. The main symptom is the touchscreen registering inputs without being touched. The issue has become progressively worse, with a substantial increase during hot weather in the summer of 2026. During cooler conditions, it occurs less frequently. My vehicle and infotainment system are available for inspection upon request.
The touchscreen in my 2022 Honda Accord has a "ghost touch" defect. It registers touches I never made. While I'm driving, it changes settings, opens menus, makes phone calls, and changes the volume or audio source on its own. This has happened about over 10 times since last year This is a safety issue. The sudden changes distract me while I'm driving, and I can't reliably control the screen, which also shows the backup camera. I request that NHTSA investigate this defect.
Touch screen on console has lots of ghost-touches .The audio screen keeps switching radio on when it was in off position. It goes into settings or prompts for factory reset while driving, and without touching it. Also, Android AutoPlay navigation keeps jumping around on the map, and giving excessive warnings for next turn, without touching it. This is an EXTREME driver distraction, esp. while trying to use navigation.
Driver safety issue. The touchscreen is nonrepsonsive and constantly glitches creating issues with navigation and also distraction. I have mad wrong turns, missed exits, and been completely distracted when dealing with this since I bought the vehicle. This is a common issue across this model with widespread complaints on the internet and dedicated discussion forums. The dealerships do patch jobs (sw updates) which does not directly resolve the issue. There are no actual diagnostics available that can identify a touchscreen issue to discern between an actual touch and a "ghost" touch. This is a driver safety issue and there are many videos online that show this type of glitching while driving. The technicians at the dealerships do not take the time to ever fully resolve this issue. I am taking my car back in for the 4th time tomorrow to get it reviewed. I imagine I am wasting more of my time and money to do this but it is not safe to drive like this. You have to experience it before you can say "it's just a touchscreen" issue. I've had passengers not understand how I can drive like this. And as mentioned above, it is not just me. Check the web. Honda should do a full recall on the infotainment system before someone, if it hasn't happened already, gets killed or injured. Thanks for reading. Very passionate on this issue. Can provide video of the issue if needed but there are plenty online if you should choose to search. It's bigger than my "touchscreen doesn't work."
Infotainment system
The contact owns a 2022 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the infotainment screen unexpectedly started scrolling randomly. Additionally, there was a beeping sound during the failure. The failure was a recurring failure. The dealer was contacted and diagnosed the vehicle with an electrical failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer had not authorized the dealer to do the repair, even though the vehicle was under warranty. The manufacturer was contacted by phone and was made aware of the failure and stated there was no remedy available. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
2022 Accord Sport 2.0T. Wireless Apple CarPlay repeatedly fails with “Unable to connect to iPhone14.” Bluetooth HandsFreeLink remains connected and the vehicle sees the phone. I have completely deleted and re-paired both Bluetooth and CarPlay; it works initially and then fails again after one or two ignition cycles. Re-pairing the phone is only a temporary fix. I'm also getting what I consider a safety hazard, where the Infotainment system cuts out phone calls, switches to the radio or changes radio stations without anybody touching it, sometimes several times in a 10-15 second period.
My Honda Accord has a recurring infotainment/touchscreen malfunction commonly described as “phantom touch” or “ghost touch.” The touchscreen was replaced approximately one year ago under warranty for the same issue. The problem has now returned and is significantly worse. The infotainment system activates and changes functions without any input from the driver. The vehicle has experienced the following: Stereo turns on unexpectedly at an alarmingly high volume. Volume increases and decreases on its own. Radio stations change without driver input. The system automatically places phone calls without driver input. Phone connectivity turns off and back on by itself. Touchscreen selections and menus activate or change on their own. The backup camera does not always display when the vehicle is placed in reverse. These failures occur unpredictably, including while the vehicle is being operated, and create a significant driver distraction. The sudden high-volume audio and unexpected activation of phone, radio, and touchscreen functions can divert the driver’s attention from the road. I am particularly concerned that the backup camera intermittently fails to display when the vehicle is placed in reverse. Honda previously replaced the touchscreen under warranty because of the same malfunction. I recently returned the vehicle to Pensacola Honda in Pensacola, Florida, after the problem recurred. I was advised by the Service Manager that Honda considers the issue a programming problem and that no further repair or replacement would be performed. The problem remains unresolved and continues to occur. The prior touchscreen replacement did not provide a lasting correction. Because the system continues to activate functions without driver input and the backup camera does not consistently display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, I am reporting this recurring malfunction to NHTSA as a vehicle safety concern.
I am writing to formally report a serious, recurring safety hazard involving the infotainment unit in my Honda Accord Sport. While driving, the infotainment screen unexpectedly resets, shuts down, switches audio channels/radio stations, and drops live navigation/maps. These spontaneous failures cause sudden, unpredictable driver distraction and eliminate essential turn-by-turn navigation during active trips. Because this defect compromises my ability to keep my full attention on the road, it poses a direct safety hazard. I have recorded video evidence documenting these sudden reboots and malfunctions while the vehicle is in operation. Video like is below. [XXX] This has been happening for a few years but I have never been able to get it on video until now. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
What is considered the “infotainment center” is what Honda is calling “ghosting”. It randomly selects things or doesn’t work. It makes it impossible to use maps via this device taking out the safe option to use directions. It is also highly distracting while driving as it could be randomly calling someone and you’re desperately trying to make it hang up while it’s also not responding so you have to dig out your phone which is not something that you should be grabbing while driving. It falsely reports crashes and cops etc to Google Maps. It randomly chooses what it does or doesn’t want to do and when. It’s chaotic and concerning on top of removing the ability to safely map places. Other times it doesn’t respond at all. Video available as needed. Too large to upload
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On February 21, 2022, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation (PE22003) to assess reports of inadvertent activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), an automatic emergency braking (AEB) system, in model year 2017-2019 Honda CR-V and 2018-2019 Honda Accord vehicles. The reports allege that activation of the AEB system occurs while driving with no apparent obstruction in the vehicle's forward path, resulting in sudden vehicle deceleration. Honda indicated that they were aware of a total of X,XXX reports that may relate to the alleged defect. Honda provided analysis of the alleged defect and alleges that some customers possibly had an inadequate understanding of the CMBS and its limitations. However, many consumer complaints allege that Honda dealerships were unable to reproduce the condition or state that they were informed that this is considered normal CMBS operation. To date, ODI has received a total of 1,294 consumer complaints of inadvertent activation of CMBS in 2017-2022 Honda CR-V and 2018-2022 Honda Accord vehicles. A total of 31 complaints alleged a crash and 50 alleged an injury. The Total column in the Failure Report Summary removes duplicate reports and shows the total number of reports with unique VINs from all Manufacturer, ODI, and EWR data sources. In some cases, there were multiple reports associated with a particular vehicle in which recurring failures were alleged. In total, there were X,XXX reports, 93 injury incidents and 47 crashes involving vehicles with unique VINs that may relate to the alleged defect. PE22-003 has been upgraded to an Engineering Analysis to further assess the scope, frequency, and potential safety related consequences of the inadvertent AEB activations. The scope has been expanded to include assessment of model year 2020-2022 Honda CR-V and Accord vehicles. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
