  Icon Vehicle Dynamics, LLC (Icon) is recalling all 05-UP FSD 2.5 Centerline Stabilizer Kits with part number 65050. The kits were sold as an accessory for certain 2005-2021 Ford F-250 4X4 and F-350 4X4 pickup trucks. The foam ring inside the stabilizer "through shaft" may block the piston ports, possibly causing the steering to lock up.

  If the steering locks, it can increase the risk of a crash.

  Remedy

  Icon will notify owners, and dealers will install a new shock assembly with a revised foam ring and steel support disc, free of charge. The recall began December 21, 2020. Owners may contact Icon customer service at 1-951-689-4266.

  The 2008, as well as other years of the ford F-350 are known to have a problem with a front-end shimmy or "death wobble". I have had several thousand dollars of work done to my F-350 in order to resolve the death wobble problem. The repairs work for a time and then, without warning, the death wobble returns. The fact that this can occur without warning, at high speeds, by driving over a very small bump in the road, makes this an extraordinarily dangerous problem. I don't think I can adequately describe the extreme nature of the death wobble. The front-end of the truck IS bouncing left and right, the entire vehicle IS twisting and rolling, the steering wheel IS barely controllable, anything loose in the passenger compartment goes flying and keeping the vehicle in its lane IS not always possible. Reducing speed as quickly as possible IS the only recourse and this poses a danger particularly when on a heavily trafficked highway. this problem has been known about for a long time and ford will not take any responsibility. Even after spending thousands of dollars on complete front-end rebuilds, and impeccable maintenance, the problem will suddenly reoccur. The design of this front-end IS faulty and vehicle owners should not continue to be responsible for the costs of maintaining this faulty design and being exposed to great risk.

I called my local ford dealership and they could not get it in for 36 hours. I drove it .4 miles home and parked it. at the appointed time I drove to north country ford. it took them another day to find the diesel mechanic who could work on the vehicle. 24 hours later I am told the engine IS blown; fluid got into the manifold and was sucked into the # 3 cylinder. depending on the amount of parts that could be salvaged the cost of replacement could exceed $ 12,000. this vehicle has 95,000 miles on it. it has had tow other incidents with the engine and drive train: in december of last year, in preparation for a trip to arizona I had the transmission serviced. about 1400 miles later the transmission began to slip when we encountered any hills or mountains. I parked the trailer and took the tuck to cassa ford. they had the truck for 4 days and $ 1600.00 worth of repairs. I asked if anything done at the time it was service or the driving from the first sign of trouble had caused or exacerbated the problem. they said no, it was a pump problem. in 2011, it began to blow black smoke out the tailpipe; the dash screen indicated it was cleaning the exhaust. within 5 minutes the engine sputtered and died. I called ford I was told to wait an hour and try to restart the vehicle; give the engine an opportunity to 're-set' itself. that didn't work! a tow was sent and the vehicle towed to nelson ford dealer in fergus falls, minnesota. it was a failed egr valve. the repair was covered under warranty.

  Exhaust gas temp sensor issue: driving at highway speed, thank god I wasn't towing my 5TH wheel. got the message on the dash "stop safely now" and 10 seconds later the truck shut itself off. this IS a serious safety hazard. if I had been towing the trailer on a hill I dread to think what would have happened. towed the vehicle to one ford dealer, they couldn't diagnose even though I found the problem online ( many F350 owners have had the exact same experience) and they told me to pick it up the next day. I did that, and about a half hour down the road it happened again. towed to a different dealership, they replaced one of the 4 exhaust gas temp sensors and after an absurd $500 repair bill for an $89 part I was on my way. ford has obviously known this IS a problem as they have changed their part number on these sensors - they did some sort of a redesign requiring a new part number. I now carry a spare sensor with me at all times as well as the correct size wrench to replace it. this should absolutely be a recall issue since it IS both a serious safety issue as well as something that many of us have had. a simple online search finds many people with the same story. I did call ford customer service, absolutely no action on their part. the old adage of ford = found on roadside dead or fix or repair daily was definitely true for me. I do have the ford customer care case number somewhere if you need that... *tr

  I have submitted my request for a recall to be issued on all 2008 ford f350sd for the exhaust temperature sensor failure causing the vehicle to shutdown. Looks as though a recall was issued for 2012 ford 6.7L ambulance packages: F-350 engine recall number: 13v535000 recall date: 10/30/2013 problem summary: ford motor company (ford) IS recalling certain model year 2011-2012 f-350/450/550 ambulance package vehicles manufactured february 22, 2010, through october 19, 2012 and equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine. Due to an exhaust sensor problem, the vehicles may experience loss of power followed by an engine stall. consequence: an unexpected engine stall increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, if this were to occur when the ambulance IS transporting a patient, there IS an increased risk of injury to the patient. corrective action: ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the exhaust gas temperature sensor, free of charge. The recall IS expected to begin by the end of november 2013. Owners may contact ford motor company customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall campaign number IS 13s10. sure if a crash can result in the vehicle shutting down on a 6.7L, it could also occur on a 6.4L 2008 ford F350 super duty that IS not an ambulance package. A crash IS what almost happen when my wife's vehicle shutdown on her due to the sensor going out heading down hill with no power steering. investigate this and have ford held accountable.   Exhaust temperature sensor will cause a crash that may end up killing someone. This IS what failed on my wife who was pulling a 28' horse trailer with her show horse inside worth over $30,000 dollars. She merged to a one lane road on interstate 68 in maryland heading down hill when the check engine light came one soon to follow with a message of pull over safely. 20 seconds later, the engine shutoff. this caused her to lose power steering on a one lane road going over a bridge down hill pulling a horse trailer with a gross weight of over 10,000 pounds. She had no where to pull over safely when the truck shutdown on her. She had to get out of the truck in order to move the barrels blocking the right lane in order to try and get the truck and trailer out of the open lane. She had to block an exit in order to make room for the other vehicles. the truck went to the ford dealership in cumberland, md where it was diagnosed that it was the exhaust temperature sensor. This IS a safety issue on this vehicle. At no time should a vehicle shutdown on someone driving it. Believe it a vehicle going into a limp mode but at least you can still drive it so you can get to a safe place. there needs to be an investigation into why this occurs and enforce ford to issue a recall to fix this problem before someone IS injured or killed. *tr

  On september 30, 2014, my wife was on her way to columbus, ohio in her 2008 ford F350 super duty turbo diesel truck with 44,000 miles. She's pulling her 2014 26 lakota two horse trailer with living quarters with her show horse ($30,000) in the back. The unexpected happen while she was on md-51n near cumberland, maryland heading across a bridge with heavy traffic at 1230pm. the check engine light came on followed by a pull over safely' message. Twenty seconds (20 seconds) later, the truck completely shut down. wife was traveling at 70 miles an hour when the truck shut down, which turned the power steering off. this IS what I call unsafe for anyone, especially when pulling a 26 horse trailer with an extra 1000lbs in the back with a horse. She was not able to get completely off the road because IS shutdown on the bridge blocking the right lane which almost caused a major accident due to the vehicle shutting down on her. While waiting on the bridge, her trainer had to turn around his eighteen wheeler so my wife could unload her horse and load it in his trailer. This completely shutdown the traffic on md-51n which IS not safe unloading and loading a horse.after sitting on the side of the road waiting for aaa to come tow the vehicle for over 1 hours, the vehicle started back up and she drove it to ford cumberland, 10335 mt savage road nw, cumberland, md with the check engine light still on with a police escort since the sheriff of cumberland sat with my wife on md-51n waiting on aaa. This IS after she was almost hit by a fedex eighteen wheeler due to not being able to get to a safe location for a truck and horse trailer due to the vehicle shutting down on her.   I was driving a f-f350 sd crew cab pickup truck with a truck shell top approximately 65 mph when the left rear tire tread began to separate from the tire cord, resulting in the tread thrashing (approximately 6 revolutions) the interior and exterior of the left rear quarter panel causing extreme body damage to the wheel well, bumper, upper truck shell sliding window. This was a very violent explosion when the tread finally separated and flew off the tire cord. I then stopped the vehicle, assessed the problem, retrieved the tire tread which remained intact, also in one piece...! Amazingly, the tire cord remained intact, still pressurized and holding air... And I was able to limp home at approximately 30 mph. Went to the ford dealership,who were not initially helpful pointing the finger to b.f. Goodrich, who I did called and I received a return phone call the next day. I then went to the dealership again, who removed the tire, and preserved the tread and tire, and I was instructed by the b.f. Goodrich representative to ship the tire for inspection to their offices. The initial inspection at the ford dealership was found to be inconclusive... As to whether or not the separation was caused by a road hazard, which it was not, and then I was told I would have to ship the tire to them for further investigation, and whether or not they would provide reimbursement for the $3-$4K in body damage to my truck. Preparing the tire for shipping to b.f.goodrich and waiting on the status of the remainder of my body damage claim. *tr

  On the evening of 6/13/2014, I was driving my 2008 ford F-350 through the drive through line of white castle in commack, new york, 11725. As I went to make a right turn to follow the drive through lane, a heard a metal breaking sound followed by complete loss of steering. Within less than 1 second from this happening, my vehicle collided with a cinder block wall causing significant front end damage to the bumper, fender and headlight. There were no injuries to myself or any passengers as well as the wall had minimal damage. I had a police report filed with the suffolk county police department. The report corroborates my statement of complete steering loss as the direct result of the accident. The vehicle was towed to my mechanic, north shore firestone in commack. Upon investigation they determined the gears inside of the steering box completely failed. They could be of further assistance detailing what the internals of the steering box looked like if needed. They also informed me there IS a 2 month back log on the replacement for this part. Being that there IS a replacement backlog, ford must know there IS a design flaw. This part needs to be redesigned to stand up to the difficult task of getting white castle! This failure not only caused damage to my truck costing over $5,000, but this will cause my insurance to go up as well. If this causes me to be dropped from my insurance, I will have major problems being that all of my jobs require me to have transportation. Please have ford fix this problem so no one else IS involved in an accident. I was lucky I was going at a low speed, but the next person may not be as lucky as I was. *tr

  The Office of DefectsInvestigation (ODI) opened PE13-014 after identifying five complaints alleging steering gear failure in model year (MY) 2008 Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pick-up trucks and to evaluate the relationship between the design history of the steering gear assembly and the alleged defect.As background, ODI investigated steering gear sector shaft fractures in approximately 1.3 million MY 1999 - 2001 Ford Super Duty pick-up trucks and MY 2000 - 2001 Ford Excursion sport utility vehicles in Engineering Analysis EA01-009.The investigation determined that the sector shaft failures were the result of extraordinary, possibly multiple, impacts and not the result of fatigue.No defect in design, manufacturing or materials was identified in the sector shaft.EA01-009 was closed August 19, 2003 with 169 complaints, resulting in a rate of 12.9 incidents per 100,000 vehicles after approximately one year of service.Ford increased the diameter of the sector shaft from 1.375 inches to 1.625 inches at the start of MY 2005 production, increasing the resistance of the steering gear assembly to torsional overload by approximately 48% and changing the failure mode from sector shaft fracture to cracked or broken sector shaft gear teeth.The redesigned steering gear assembly was used in approximately 1.1 million MY 2005 through 2009 Ford Super Duty pick-up trucks, including the subject vehicles.Figure 1 shows the basic steering system design used in Ford Super Duty trucks investigated in EA01-009 and PE13-014. Figure 2 shows the locations of failures resulting from impact related torsional overloading of the sector shaft for the subject vehicles and the prior generation Ford Super Duty trucks investigated in EA01-009.Figure 3 shows an example of a failed sector shaft investigated in EA01-009 and comparisons of fracture surfaces of sector shafts failing from fatigue loading and from torsional overload.Ford provided field return part analysis of failed steering gears from MY 2005 through 2009 Super Duty trucks found evidence of broken sector shaft gear teeth and piston damage consistent with incidents of single event overload (Figure 4).Laboratory analysis found no evidence of fatigue or material property defects in any of the fractures.Analysis of complaint rates by vehicle build month showed no patterns indicating potential manufacturing quality issues and no difference before and after Ford introduced design changes to the input shaft and sector shaft seals in July 2007 to address potential leak concerns (Figure 5).Analysis of failures by time in service indicates a random failure pattern/distribution, consistent with incidents of impact induced overload (Figure 6). The complaint rate for the subject vehicles after approximately 5 to 6 years, 7.1 incidents per 100,000 vehicles, is lower than the rate observed in EA01-009. Furthermore, similar to the condition investigated in EA01-009, a number of incident records include evidence of impact loads (e.g., curb strikes) and several alleged crashes include incidents in which information suggests that the steering gear failure was most likely a result of crash forces, rather than the cause of the crash.A safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist.The agency will monitor this issue and reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at ww
