Casual driver. Noticed acceleration and coasting/rolling were sluggish. mechanic noted brake area temp on front driver's side was over 400 degrees. the brakes on that wheel would not release completely and caused continuous friction producing overheating. (I noticed I am not the only one to submit this brake problem to this board. ) the mechanic replaced the total front brakes and master cylinder system. cost over $1100 to do this back in 2013. it IS now jan 2021 and I still have less than 50,000 miles on my baby mustang.
Never know when car IS fully gas up always put gas in at 1/4 to 1/2 tank, will overfill if not very carefully so really just put no more than 10 to 15 dallas never shows full. Do not want to overflow on me for one two it's bad for my baby #1 mustang
Back on march 1, 2016 I believe I was coming to a stop light I applied my foot on the break and the car seem to wanna keep inching forward inching forward I had at this time continued to press down on the break as soon as I knew it I was in the middle of the street practically during a red light and was sideswiped. After looking under to see what was causing that it seems to be my gas pedal was hung up on a piece of carpeting on the floor of the car causing my gas pedal to become stuck to that carpet I had to cut the piece of carpeting away from that to stop that from doing that later to find out there had been a recall when I took my car for the recall they told me that it was only on specific mustangs I don't know why if my car was having the same issue the police officer said he was not giving me a ticket because he didn't feel that I was at fault but yet my insurance went up and paid the other driver for damages. because it's been three years I will do my best to get the paperwork together
Gas pedal got caught on a piece of carpet which caused my car to enter into an intersection on a red light and caused me to have an accident. Which then made my insurance jump. I remember this day very well it was the day before my birthday I came up to the red light and stopped the car seem to want to keep moving forward as I put my foot on the break it was still a red light my car was moving forward cars were beeping at me as I kept inching into the middle of the street my car was hit in the rear passenger side by another mustang. I explain to the police officer that what seem to happen was my carpet seem to have gotten caught on the gas pedal. After later learning that there was a recall for that particular problem it wasn't re calling under my vin. To this day I have an accident mark on my insurance which made my bill go up I don't think that this IS fair considering that it was not my fault I tried showing the insurance company that there was a recall but it wasn't recalling under my vin number
ABS brake light IS on this IS unsafe in wet or snowy conditions
TL* the contact owns a 2004 ford mustang. While driving 25 mph, the accelerator pedal became caught in the floormat and caused the vehicle to accelerate. The contact had to shift into neutral to stop the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 169,865.
Back in 2016 I was involved in an accident in which my gas pedal seemed to have got hung up on the carpet which caused my gas pedal to accelerate a little when I was at a red light causing me to have an accident.. I was coming to a stop at a red light when the pedal seemed to have got stuck. I had my foot on the brake but the car seemed to want to continue to move I just thought my accelerator was set a little high until saw that the pedal was getting caught on the carpet.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 ford mustang. While attempting to drive off from a parking space, the vehicle accelerated from 0 to approximately 40 mph. As a result, the vehicle crashed into the front driver's side of another vehicle the air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was damaged, but was not towed. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 171,000.
The spark plugs have a tendency to blow out. an explosion makes the plug strip the threads and do damage to the head. there IS also potential for fire as fuel vapor IS then release directly into the engine compartment.
TL* the contact owned a 2004 ford mustang. While driving approximately 15 mph, a vehicle ran a red light and crashed head on into the contact's vehicle. The contact's vehicle was turned sideways and crashed into a pole. The frontal air bags failed to deploy. The contact was pinned inside the vehicle. The fire department pried the door open to rescue the contact. The contact was transported in an ambulance to the hospital, but no injuries were reported. A police report was filed. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 14v802000 (air bags) in december of 2015. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
We were in an accident on 2-28-2016 and was hit from the side and pushed into a ditch while passing a ford 250 he turned into us while driving 50 mph. The airbags did not go off.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 ford mustang. The contact stated that headlamps failed to respond intermittently. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000. The vin was not provided.
For at least 5 years the convertible top leaks water into the back of the car when the top folds down into the back of the car, then this water leaks onto the back floor boards. afraid it IS going to rot out the floor boards. this needs to be taken care of. I know of many ford mustangs that do this.
Passenger side front seat belt retracts only and will not extend, so therefore IS non-functional. this IS not a case of twisted belt, as we have accessed the part and ensured "flat" wind. my son just bought car. prior owner says it never worked for several years. driver's side seat belt IS also barely functional. both present major safety hazards to occupants. looking on-line this seems to be a well known problem with the manufacturer's design which should be corrected. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2004 ford mustang. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be replicated however, the dealer made repairs to the vehicle. the contact was unsure of what repairs were performed. The failure recurred several times after the repairs were completed. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure and the current mileages were unavailable.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 ford mustang. The contact stated that while driving, a loud noise was heard coming from under the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a repair shop where they advised that the air compressor condensation dripped onto the exhaust pipe and the exhaust piped needed to be re-welded. The vehicle was repaired. The contact notified the manufacturer and was advised that there were no recalls for the vehicle or the failure. The failure mileage was 75,000.
TL* the contact owns a 2004 ford mustang. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and engaging the accelerator pedal, the pedal would become stuck. As a result, there was an increase in engine rpms.the contact mentioned that she would have to kick at the pedal or engage the brakes in order to release the accelerator from being stuck. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 70,000. updated 8/31/12 *cn updated 09/10/12. *Jb

While driving 70 mph the drivers side front tire tread separated causing damage to the wheel well, the front bumper and loosened the rocker panel. The vehicle merged onto the emergency lane in order for him to install the spare tire. The dealer nor manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.
Every time it rains, underneath the passenger seat into the back passenger side floorboard IS flooded with water. *tr
September 18, 2011: while exiting an interstate, I began to go around the cloverleaf of my exit, less than 15 mph, and the back end of my mustang very quickly fishtailed spinning me all the way around. I ended up facing the people behind me, who fortunately were going as slowly as I was. fortunately I was able to stop just short of hitting a concrete barrier wall. there was a very light rain, and the roads were wet. I have all new tires. I've had this problem since we purchased the vehicle, and have fish-tailed before, but never spun completely around. completely terrifying. *kb
TL* the contact owns a 2004 ford mustang. The contact stated the headlights were very dim and the high beams had to be used in order to see at night. The contact replaced the lens and added high intensity light bulbs, but the failure was not corrected. In 2004 my mom bought a new 2004 ford mustang with the 3.9 V-6 motor and within a couple of months it started ticking real loud when you first start it up. Come to find out it was a passenger side exhaust leak that just got worse, and at the same time her engine started making loud chirping and crazy noises to find out it was the cam positioning sensor that went out. Well she paid about $550.00 to get the sensor fixed but she couldn't afford the exhaust to.so still to this day she drives her nice looking mustang carefully around town that sounds like its ready to die, and I wouldn't trust driving that thing 10 miles out of town. It might not be an eye sore but it sure IS an ear sore, and IS stressing years off my old broke mothers life. We've always been a ford family and my dad retired from ford proving grounds. But that IS the sorriest ford we've ever seen.oh yeah, plus the automatic transmission never shifted right from day 1, and she has had to replace the alternator, battery ,a pulley, the serpentine belt etc.and it has a lot of rattles and road noise, and it just barely made 60,000 miles. *Tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On september 6, 2005, odi received a petition requesting that the agency investigate allegations of engine spark plug ejection in certain model year 1997 through 2004 ford vehicles with triton V-8 and V-10 engines.odi received a total of 474 non-duplicative complaints on the subject vehicles where the complainant, or the dealer repairing the vehicle, reported that a spark plug detached from the cylinder and/or ejected from the engine.as of december 8, 2005, odi IS not aware of any allegations where the alleged defect resulted in a loss of vehicle control, a crash, an injury, or a fatality in any of the 10,319,810 subject vehicles.in addition, odi IS aware of only two incidents where the vehicle stalled without restart.information contained in the odi consumer complaints and obtained from 72 telephone interviews with complainants showed the following:(1) 99% of the complaints were on my 1997 to 2002 subject vehicles.(2) most the complainants reported hearing a loud pop while driving or upon starting up the vehicle followed by a loud, repetitive clicking or popping sound.(3) many of the complainants reported that the popping sound was accompanied by some loss of vehicle power; however, in 99% of the incidents reported, the vehicle did not stall.in the very few incidents where the vehicle did stall, most vehicles could be restarted.(4) only a small percentage of the complainants cited that they smelled gas or a slight burning smell when the incident occurred.(5) in all but a very few incidents, vehicle damage was limited to the engine.in one incident, the complaint reported that the fuel rail was damaged and replaced after one of the spark plugs ejected from the engine; however, the complainant reported that the damage did not result in any type of fuel leak or fire.in another incident, the only incident where a fire was alleged, the complainant reported that no fluid leak was observed, but that a fire resulted after the spark plug had ejected from the engine and he had restarted the vehicle and driven to another location.none of the complainants reported any damage to the vehicle hood.(6) only two complainants reported that they observed what appeared to be some drops of fuel coming from the cylinder where the spark plug had failed or on the spark plug itself; however, each of these complainants reported that there was no smoke or flames as a result of his incident.as the petitioner noted, and odi?s analysis showed, it IS possible for a spark plug to detach from the engine cylinder threads in the subject vehicles.however, odi?s analysis of 474 complaints describing such incidents found only a very few alleged any safety-related consequences.none of these showed any evidence of a serious safety consequence.given the large population and relatively long exposure time of the subject vehicles, the complaint analysis indicates that the risk to motor vehicle safety from the alleged defect IS very low.in view of the foregoing, it IS unlikely that nhtsa would issue an order for the notification and remedy of the alleged defect at the conclusion of the investigation requested in the petition.therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa?s limited resources to best accomplish the agency?s safety mission, the petition IS denied.
On april 3, 2006, ford motor company submitted a defect information report to nhtsa concerning a defect condition that could result in interference between the accelerator pedal and floor carpeting in approximately 19,140 model year 2003 and 2004 mustang cobra vehicles (ford recall no. 06S43/nhtsa recall 06v-108, copy attached).ford will recall the vehicles to install a shield beneath the accelerator pedal to prevent the pivot pin on the rear surface of the pedal from coming into contact with the floor carpeting during heavy throttle application.in those vehicles where the floor carpeting does not fit flush with the sheet metal, the unique rear surface profile of the mustang cobra pedal may allow the pivot pin of the pedal to catch in the cutout on the floor carpeting behind the pedal, interfering with the pedal's ability to return; the result of which could be unexpected, continued throttle application.during the engineering analysis stage of the investigation, odi also examined the possiblity of the same phenomena occuring in non-cobra mustangs.however, the different design of the accelerator pedals on the non-cobra mustangs results in significant differences in the potential contact between the accelerator pedal and the carpeting, with the base of the pedal pad acting to force the carpet away from the pivot pin.this engineering analysis has been closed.
Pe05-038 was opened on july 7, 2005, with 11 consumer complaints to odi alleging incidents of throttle sticking due to accelerator pedal interference with the carpet.odi has received an additional 24 complaints since the pe was opened.during pe05-038, ford supplied complaint and warranty information regarding 86 additional incidents of accelerator pedal interference in model year 2003 to 2004 mustang cobra vehicles.eighty-five of these had concerns of accelerator pedal sticking, 70 of which were analyzed as being related to carpet interference.odi IS continuing its analysis of the causal factors in the remaining 15 incidents.this preliminary evaluation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis.
