Vehicle description: multipurpose passenger vehicles equipped with plastic fuel tanks. the fuel tank sending unit gasket can crack causing fuel and fuel vapor leaks.
Fuel and fuel vapor leaked from the fuel tank can result in fire when exposed to a source of ignition.
Replace the fuel tank sending unit gasket.
Salt corrosion products between the starter solenoid wire and the adjacent battery feed in the bulkhead connector may short these connections, causing the circuit to bypass the ignition key control of the starter motor solenoid. The car can start without the starter sequence being initiated by the ignition key in the ignition lock.
The unintended start of a vehicle with a manualtransmission left in a drive gear can result in a runaway vehicle.
The starter solenoid wiring will be separated from the battery feed wire by relocating it within the bulkhead connector on affected vehicles.
On 1987 through early 1990 models, both front brake hoses can wear due to direct contact with the wheel opening splash shields. On the late 1990 through 1992 models, periodic rubbing contact of the left front brake hose can occur due to movement of the splash shield in certain vehicle operating conditions.
Either condition can cause loss of front brake systemfunctions, resulting in increased stopping distances and an increased risk ofvehicle accident.
The 1987 to 1990 model vehicles will have both splash shields replaced and both front brake hoses replaced as necessary. All affected late 1990 through 1992 model year vehicles will have additional fasteners installed to further secure the left side splash shield. Also, the left front brake hose will be inspected and replaced as necessary.

I am on military orders and am planning on shipping my jeep wrangler to my next duty station located in lima peru. I was wondering if you could help with this situation. regards, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *tr

I have previously written to you under reference #10429043, for a leaking gas tank. chrysler has since blown me off and not addressed this recall or safety issue. I now carry two fire extinguishers in the car awaiting the impending explosion and/or fire. in addition, chrysler took my car to their bayside jeep dealership and charged me $217.75 to install clamps on (i believe) the gas line. that lasted about 6 months before the leak started again. [xxx] (no last names are given) from chrysler advised me that they would refund my $217.75, which was never done. today, I read an article in the ny daily news that chrysler IS dodging the recall by the nhtsa on gas tank problems with many years of jeeps, which proves my point more that they are distancing themselves from their responsibilities. I would like my forever leaking gas tank finally fixed and I would like my $217.75 refunded; or they can offer me a brand new jeep as a replacement, as long as the gas tank doesn't leak. Otherwise, I would like to be fully involved in any class action law suits against chrysler. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6). *Tr

Gas tank overflows every single time it IS filled up, if it wasn't for me having to hold in the nozzle the entire time and noticing it IS overflowing, it would just keep overflowing gas onto the ground. *tr

Took jeep to dealer to fix the emergency brake. (Recall) the same day of service while driving @55mph, in 5TH gear, rear brakes locked up. It's no longer has a complete transmission,(it's stuck in one of the gears, no 1ST or rear, and no neutral unless clutch IS pushed in. Took it to dealer that did the recall. They said it was our problem. The brakes shouldn't have locked, and wouldn't cause transmission to fail. The brakes were no longer locked when dealership/mechanic looked at it 2 days after the incident. (There were two dark skid mark on pavement where it happened. dt

While taking vehicle through a routine emission. When mechanic states gas tank IS not pressuring through the fuel line. mechanic stated there IS no heat shield to protect gas tank, allowing gas tank to melt. consumer feels vehicle may blow up. mr the consumer was notified that the fuel line was worn, so the line was replaced, and the vehicle failed the emissions exam again due to pressurization in the fuel line. the vehicle was taken to the dealer again and was informed that where the gas tank was dropped, it had no heat shield, and had melted spots with two holes in the tank. the mechanic stated that this was a fire hazard, should not be driven until repaired, and a manufacturing issue. scc

Odi has received 6 reports on fuel leakage and 3 reports on alleged remedy failure reports
This investigation was opened to examine the failure mode and the risk to motor vehicle safety posed by allegations of rear axle separations.the rear axle shaft and housing design IS typical of those in which the weight of the vehicle IS carried on the axle housing.the left and right axle shafts, supported by roller bearings, are situated inside the axle housing.the inboard splined end of the axle shaft receives power transmitted from the differential assembly, providing torque to the rear wheels.the allegations are that the axle shaft fails, resulting in the separation of a wheel and axle hub assembly or the entire axle shaft and wheel assembly, depending on the location of the axle shaft failure.as identified by chrysler, the subject rear axles are dana 35C and 35CM models, which have been used on the subject vehicles since the 1990 model year.a safety defect trend with respect to the subject axle shafts has not been identified.see hard copy resume for full text of summary.
