Since the 68C Recall software update was performed on my Jeep, the vehicle has experienced recurring, unexpected losses of motive power while driving in Electric Mode. During these events, pressing the accelerator yields no response. Moments later, an "Electric Mode Unavailable" warning displays, followed by the gasoline engine starting and causing the vehicle to surge forward. This phenomenon occurs unpredictably—typically when the hybrid battery charge drops below 45–50%—and has occurred twice in the past week alone, nearly causing a rear-end collision each time. I previously submitted the vehicle to the dealership for repair, but no corrective action was taken. The dealership advised that the vehicle operates normally according to post-recall software parameters designed to prevent battery overheating. However, forcing an unprompted loss of motive power in active traffic creates a critical safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2024 Jeep Wrangler. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V710000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue.
My jeep has been in the shop MULTIPLE times for a check engine light. Approximately 7-8 times. I've always been told, it's just giving 2-3 different codes and it's nothing to worry about. About a month ago, I was driving my Jeep and it just stopped running. I was sitting in the middle of a very busy intersection. I could not put it in natural to push it to the side of the road, I couldn't get it started, it was just doing nothing. For approximately 45 mins It sat in the middle of an intersection with people yelling at me, beeping at me, etc... When my wife arrived to help me get my stuff out of the vehicle, I tried it one more time and it started up. I then drove it immediately to the dealership. Every light on the dashboard was lit up and the engine was revving like a lawn mower. Got it to the dealership AGAIN was told the whole EV battery needed to be replaced. It's a 2024 Wrangler 4XE with around 15,000 miles on it. I think it's been in the shop longer than I've actually driven it the past couple of year. I will never buy another Jeep product.
NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) FORMAL VEHICLE SAFETY COMPLAINT Date: [XXX] Complainant: [XXX] Vehicle: 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sahara Manufacturer: Jeep / Stellantis Selling Dealership: Mohawk Honda, New York Purchase Date: [XXX] Mileage at Purchase: 17,092 miles Mileage at [XXX]: 23,144 miles Mileage at [XXX]: 23,328 miles Date of Safety Incidents: [XXX] Stellantis Case Number: [XXX] 1. Nature of Safety Complaint I am reporting two serious incidents of sudden and unexpected loss of propulsion involving my 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sahara. Both incidents occurred on [XXX], shortly after I picked up my vehicle from Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Clifton Park, New York, following recall-related service. During both incidents, my vehicle abruptly decelerated from approximately 50 miles per hour to approximately 20 miles per hour while traveling uphill. During the second incident, another vehicle was following behind me and nearly rear-ended my Jeep. I am extremely concerned that this defect creates a substantial risk of serious injury or death, particularly when traveling on highways or in heavy traffic. 2. Vehicle Purchase and Initial Service History I purchased this vehicle used from Mohawk Honda on [XXX], with 17,092 miles documented on the purchase paperwork. Before purchasing the Jeep, I specifically asked whether there were any outstanding safety recalls. I was informed that there were none. . Requested NHTSA Investigation I respectfully request that NHTSA: 1.Document both sudden loss-of-propulsion incidents involving my 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sahara. 2.Investigate whether these incidents are associated with Safety Recall A7C, recall 78C, or another vehicle defect. 3.Review the circumstances surrounding the vehicle's release following recall service. 4.Examine the relationship, if any, between the loss-of-propulsion incidents and the subsequent requirement for an INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I recently took my Jeep Wrangler in for 3 recalls last week and as soon as I got it back, my vehicle was not driving correctly after the 68c software update was completed. It feels like it is stuck in the wrong gear when driving and comes to a rapid stop even on highway when I let my foot off the gas without braking. I'm afraid this will cause me to get rear ended wreck. It feels like I'm driving with the emergency brake on at all times. It uses so much more gas that before the recall. My father took my vehicle in for the recall because I have been out of state working and he noticed the issue as soon as he tried to drive off. He took it back and told them it was not driving correctly and worried and they said it was fine and ignored the issue. I feel I can not drive my vehicle anymore for safety reasons.
On 8/16/2026 the vehicle seized completely while driving. No power. No steering. No brakes. Obv my safety and the safety of the passengers in the vehicles and trucks that had to avoid me was serious. My vehicle was towed to the closest dealership for repair. I picked the 'repaired' vehicle up on 9/23/26. Within a few miles of leaving the dealership with said repair, the vehicle once again lost all power while driving. No power. No brakes. No steering. This was on a 55mph highway and the safety risk for me and others was severe! As of today (10/25/2026) the vehicle is still in the dealership with multiple but unsuccessful repair attempts.
2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe models. Sudden loss of power while driving up hill in the electric mode. It would not go over 59 miles per hour and then it switched over to hybrid all on its own. This happened a few times and I could not go fast enough on the freeway. The next week the check engine light was on along with, engine warning light: service battery charging system and it would not start. I have a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sahara. All recalls are up to date. My jeep suddenly lost acceleration while I was driving. It happened more than once, including a frightening situation when my vehicle rapidly slowed from approximately 65-59-45. My Jeep was subsequently towed to the dealership.
I am reporting a serious safety concern involving my 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon X 4xe following Recall 68C (NHTSA 25V-741). After the recall software update, my vehicle experienced a significant reduction in electric-mode power and acceleration. Electric mode has become practically unusable and potentially dangerous, especially during highway driving. Before the update, electric mode provided adequate and predictable acceleration. Following the update, the vehicle struggles to deliver sufficient power when merging onto highways, entering fast-moving traffic, passing other vehicles, or accelerating uphill. This creates serious safety risks because drivers need reliable acceleration to safely navigate traffic and avoid collisions. The reduced power makes it difficult to match highway speeds or respond quickly to changing road conditions. I am extremely concerned that a recall intended to address a high-voltage battery safety issue may have introduced another safety hazard by significantly restricting electric propulsion performance. This is not simply a customer dissatisfaction issue. It directly affects vehicle safety and my confidence in operating the vehicle in electric mode. I request that NHTSA investigate whether Recall 68C introduced software restrictions affecting electric-motor power and acceleration, determine whether other Jeep Wrangler 4xe owners face similar risks, and require Stellantis to provide an effective remedy. A safety recall should not create additional hazards or compromise the vehicle's ability to accelerate safely and predictably.
My most serious complaint concerns the vehicle’s behavior following completion of the 68C / NHTSA 25V-741 high-voltage battery recall software update. Since that update, I have experienced reductions in electric-drive power, hesitation, and unexpected engagement of the gasoline engine while driving. The resulting delay in power delivery is particularly concerning when merging into traffic or passing another vehicle, when predictable acceleration is essential. While turning right at an intersection, I have personally experienced reduction of power followed by engagement of the ICE resulting in an unexpected delay in vehicle speed control. I have experienced this scenario multiple times and also when merging onto the hwy. There were no warning lamps or messages. When discussed with the dealership, I was told that this is now the normal operation of the vehicle, but would not explain what changes were made or how it works. This is unacceptable and can put myself or other Jeep 4xe owners at risk.
Since getting the recalls done on my vehicle, I have experienced loss of power, acceleration & automatic dry engine start while in “electric mode”. This seems to happen when vehicle reaches a certain temp. I live in [XXX] so it is always hot! Example: I’ll be driving at highway speed or going up an incline and all of a sudden I will lose propulsion and eventually the engine will cold start even when I have plenty of battery % left! This is scary as this never happened before I had the recalls done! I have several concerns. First, there is a safety risk with loss of propulsion, also I have concern on future engine wear from cold starts at speed. Wife took Jeep to dealership for recalls. Dropped it off, got a rental car. A short while later, dealership called to say Jeep had an electrical fire while on the charger at the dealership. Fire Dept called and Jeep was sent to salvage yard to "burn out." Total loss of vehicle. 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe High Altitude. Leased the vehicle new on 9/23/24. Just over 35K miles. Using a level 2 charger at home and no issues prior to this. Jeep Customer Care promised an investigation within 3-4 business days. Today is the 6th business day and still no contact from them. Multiple attempts to call them for update and no one will return our call. Ally financial says they can't do anything until investigation is complete. Personal insurance will cover, but should not have to, as this is a known issue and was at the Jeep dealership on their charger.
I was driving around 64 miles per hour when all of a sudden the jeep automatically dropped to 45mph. I also received a message that said service engine, see dealership. I had the car only 5 days when this happened
My jeep after the 68c recall work was performed to lessen the chances of a fire caused by the hybrid battery now under performs compared to before the recall. I get much less that the advertised EV / Battery only miles. Also, the vehicle hesitates while trying to transition between battery only and hybrid modes. My only recorse is to not use the battery only mode because it is a safety concern.
I own a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe High Altitude. I request that NHTSA investigate reports of dangerous changes in propulsion and acceleration following Jeep/Stellantis Recall 68C software updates. I have experienced, as well as other owners, diminished electric-motor power, weak or delayed acceleration, unexpected reductions in propulsion, and a lag before the gasoline engine provides power. These conditions can create a collision risk when merging, crossing intersections, passing, or maintaining speed uphill. Some report abrupt power delivery after the delay. Owners also report being told this degraded behavior is “normal operation.” Please investigate whether the recall remedy introduces an unreasonable propulsion safety risk, whether the changes and risks were adequately disclosed, and whether a further corrective remedy is needed. For context, see this video and others on the same YouTube channel, including extensive owner comments discussing changes after Recall 68C: [XXX] These are reported owner experiences; I am not claiming every symptom occurred in my vehicle but many of these have been experienced by me personally. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I own a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Sport S that has experienced a significant and potentially dangerous reduction in propulsion power following the completion of Recall 68C (NHTSA Campaign 25V741000) by an authorized Jeep dealership. These problems began after the recall software update and were not present beforehand. Since the recall repair, the vehicle has substantially reduced electric-motor acceleration. While operating in Electric mode, pressing the accelerator can result in an increase of only approximately 1 MPH every 1–2 seconds, even with substantial accelerator input. The internal combustion engine (ICE) then engages prematurely at unusually high RPMs to compensate for the lack of electric propulsion. This results in delayed and inconsistent acceleration. Additionally, the vehicle struggles to accelerate beyond approximately 55 MPH while operating in Electric mode. When attempting to accelerate further, the vehicle eventually displays "Electric Mode Not Available" and disables Electric mode for the remainder of the drive. Before Recall 68C, the vehicle operated at highway speeds in Electric mode without these limitations. Despite these repeatable symptoms, the vehicle does not illuminate a check-engine light or produce observable diagnostic trouble codes. The electric propulsion and powertrain systems remain installed and available for inspection. The cause has not been independently confirmed. These conditions create a serious safety concern when merging onto highways, crossing intersections, or accelerating with surrounding traffic. The vehicle responds very slowly to accelerator input before abruptly engaging the gasoline engine at high RPMs. This unpredictable behavior creates a potential collision hazard. I request that NHTSA investigate whether the Recall 68C software update is contributing to reduced propulsion power, delayed acceleration, and unexpected Electric-mode deactivation in affected Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles.
For about three days now, off and on, more on than off, the screen will pixelate, which is extremely distracting and dangerous. A few times it’s completely shut off to where I’ve had to pull over and power cycle the vehicle to get it to turn back on
This has happened on multiple occasions. While driving in Hybrid mode and the battery power reaches 0% there is a very sudden and dramatic drop in speed/power. Especially jarring at highway speeds. Yesterday was on the highway at 60+mph and it was like the engine died for 2 seconds or so while the car was switching power modes or draw. This is becoming more frequent with this vehicle and the modes it occurs in seem to be increasing as well. All Battery mode was when first noticed - but I don’t know the trigger. This time was Hybrid mode where the trigger seemed to be the battery running out of juice and activating the ICE. Unsafe. Scary.
BACK OVER PREVENTION/BACK UP CAMERA SENSING SYSTEM Rearview image does not always power on, has delay powering, and/or sticks while displaying in the wrong direction misleading surrounding area. Because of this issue I had backed up into a smaller car in my blind spot, telling me It wasn't in my backup zone. This complaint prior to the accident, was told to me that it was an electrical systems update that was in the works. This still being an issue after almost 2 years. I have video footage of the malfunctioning backup camera, in all states. Delayed, stuck in wrong direction, and showing back up camera while driving forward.
Violent, uncontrollable front-end steering oscillation (commonly known as 'Death Wobble') occurred while driving on the highway at approximately [Insert Speed, e.g., 55–65 mph] after hitting a [pothole / expansion joint / bump]. The steering wheel shook violently back and forth, causing a severe loss of steering control. The forceful vibration did not subside until slowing down significantly to a speed of [Insert Speed, e.g., 20 mph] on the shoulder of the road. The vehicle is completely stock, has 44,000 miles, and the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty has expired. This rapid shaking creates a severe and sudden highway safety hazard.
Purchased a brand new 2024 Jeep Wrangler from dealer in 2024. Car had brand new Nexen Roadian HTX2 tires on it. 2 years and 14k miles. One of the tires blew recently and I brought them in to be inspected and was told they are unsafe due to significant dry rot and wear. They are exhibiting premature weather cracking, but the car has been garaged and driven normally and tires rotated/cared for under normal expectations. Nexen is refusing to replace or repair, however this is a manufacturing defect and not environmental. The problem was confirmed by 2 dealerships and multiple claims with the BBB online. This does not fall under their mileage warranty and shouldn't - it's a defect and warrants a recall. I have Roadian HTX2's DOT code is 18EA AHAH 2424 size is 245 / 75R / 17 All 4 tires are exhibiting the same issue!
This is my 5th Jeep over many years. I have the Wrangler Jeep 4 Xe 2024 model that is pristine kept. There have been over 5 recalls of different matters and there is still a recall outstanding from OCTOBER of 2025. Although this car is marketed for rough terrain (which I do not do), it has been in the shop for many times- some with Safety Recalls to include Risk of Fire, Loss of Power and explosion. Some advising me NOT to charge the vehicle near a structure. The brand has not stood behind their brand and advised me to rent a car (at my expense until they reimburse me). The lease/purchase is for a SAFE, RELIABLE source of transportation yet the manufacture does not stand behind their product and is leaving it to the inconvenience of me to rectify their shortfalls. I have not been offered any compensation for a higher level vehicle that I leased (hybrid) to exit my lease and settle to lease a vehicle that is of better quality. I have maintained all paperwork for documentation to a class action suit that I joined, but it would be better for all parties to settle amicably in a private forum.
My 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4xe had the 68C recall completed. Since completion of the recall, I have experienced intermittent and significant loss of acceleration/power, particularly when driving on an incline. During a recent incident, while traveling on an inclined section of the interstate highway, the vehicle was operating in hybrid mode. The vehicle did not provide the expected acceleration and appeared to lose power despite the accelerator being fully depressed. After several seconds, the vehicle switched to the gasoline engine and then suddenly accelerated with a noticeable jerk. This behavior creates a significant safety concern. A sudden loss of acceleration followed by unexpected acceleration can make it difficult for the driver to maintain control and can create a dangerous situation, particularly in highway traffic. I have also experienced this type of loss of acceleration during highway merging. When merging onto a highway, the driver relies on the vehicle responding predictably to accelerator input in order to reach an appropriate speed and maintain a safe distance from approaching traffic. If acceleration is unexpectedly lost after entering or while merging into traffic, vehicles approaching from behind can close the distance much faster than anticipated, substantially increasing the risk of a collision. The problem appears to have started after completion of the 68C recall. I believe the loss of propulsion/acceleration and the subsequent sudden acceleration warrant investigation because of the potential safety risk. I have reported these concerns to Jeep dealerships and Jeep/Stellantis customer support, but the issue has not been satisfactorily resolved. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this loss-of-power/acceleration behavior, particularly its occurrence while the vehicle is operating in hybrid mode and during highway acceleration or merging.
One two occasions on the freeway the display will state "Service Engine See Dealer" and then the car goes into a limp mode and essentially shuts down. Both times we've had to quickly get to the emergency lane, wait for several minutes then turn the vehicle back on. We've taken the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that they diagnosed it and tried to recreate the issue but cannot reproduce it so they say there is nothing to fix.
I have a failed 68C Federal Recall Safety Remedy Recall. The jeep suffered a catastrophic high-voltage battery and powertrain failure while operating at highway speeds. The vehicle is unsafe to drive, charge, or park near structures due to Fire Risk. In December of 2025 at the Jeep's authorized dealership the battery passed corporate software diagnostics, and Stellantis assured me the vehicle was safe to operate. The recall remedy completely failed. On September 18, 2026 while driving at highway speeds in active traffic, the vehicle suffered a total loss of powertrain power and shut down completely, creating an imminent safety hazard for myself and others. The vehicle has been sitting at the dealership since then. There are also other active recalls on the vehicle that put myself and others in danger. Parking in a garage or near a structure are not permitted. It is also not safet to charge.
The contact's sister owns a 2024 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at 2 MPH and turning, the vehicle crashed into a light pole and the air bag violently deployed. The contact sustained whiplash, a bruise on the left hand, arm, and head. The air bag struck the contact on the nose. There was smoke from the air bag. The SOS message was displayed, and the Police were alerted. The Police Officer stated that the air bag should not have deployed and was caused by a sensor failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was scheduled for repair.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has identified 68 Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) reports for model years (MY) 2021 through 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles alleging a loss of motive power. Recall 22V-865 was issued by the manufacturer to address an engine shutdown condition in certain MY 2021-2023 Wrangler 4xe vehicles. The complaints noted here contain both post recall remedy failures and failures in vehicles not included within the scope of 22V-865. An analysis comparing complaints received before the issuance of recall 22V-865 and complaints outside the scope of the recall has been conducted. The results show the current complaint rate is higher in the out of scope vehicles than it was for vehicles that were later covered by the recall. ODI is opening this Recall Query (RQ) to assess the severity of the alleged defect in vehicles not included in recall 22V-865.ODI will also assess the scope and remedy effectiveness of the recall. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
