The replacement/reimbursement program for this campaign expired on august 29, 2001. however, customers should contact firestone customer service at 1-800-465-1904 for possible assistance.
The wire harness for the power lumbar feature on the seat IS underneath the front seat cushion support wires. the support wires on the driver seat can contact and damage the insulation harness resulting in a high resistance electrical short through the support wires.
Risk and remedy
Risk
Consequence of defect: over heating of the support wires could result, and melting, smoke, or possible igntion of the surrounding materials could occur.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect the seats on the affected vehicles. If no damage IS found, the driver seat wire harness will be covered with a protective convolute tubing, wrapped with electrical tape and the harness will be rerouted. If damage IS found, the wire harness will be replaced.
The seat recliner to seat frame attaching bolts on these vehicles could loosen, fatigue and fracture, allowing the seat back to suddenly recline.
Risk and remedy
Risk
If this were to occur to the driver's seat, this could result in a sudden loss of vehicle control increasing the risk of a vehicle accident.
Remedy
Dealers will remove all foam and/or fabric sandwiched between the recliner assembly and the seat frame, install washers between the seat recliner and the seat frame at each attachment point, and install new attaching bolts torqued to a higher specification. These corrections will be made to both the driver's and passenger's seats.
The parking brake control self-adjust pawl does not line up properly with the self-adjust rachet causing the pawl to slip over one or more teeth in the rachet.
Risk and remedy
Risk
When the above occurs, it can result in parking brake system ineffectiveness. The parking brake will not hold the vehicle, causing the vehicle to roll freely, if the transmission IS not left in gear.
Remedy
A wedge will be installed which will serve to lock the parking brake self-adjust mechanism pawl into engagement with the rachet. Also, owners will be advised to release and reapply the parking brake whenever tooth skip occurs and will be reminded to always turn off the engine and leave the vehicle in gear when the vehicle IS parked.
The u-clip style nuts that retain the front bumpers to the front bumper inner arms can fracture.
Risk and remedy
Risk
If one of the u-clip nuts fractures, the bumper will loosen and rattle causing fracture of the remaining u-clip nuts, resulting in separation of the bumper from the vehicle. If the bumper were to detach from the vehicle while it IS being driven, a vehicle collision could result.
Remedy
Inspection and replacement of the four u-clip nuts and the associated bolts.
These vehicles were built with nonfunctional air bag diagnostic modules intended for certain vehicles over 8,500 bls. Gvwr.
Risk and remedy
Risk
The air bag supplemental restraint and the air bagwarning light will not function. This could result in reduced occupantprotection in the event of a collision that should activate the air bagsupplemental restraint system.
Remedy
Dealers will inspect these vehicles and, if necessary, install the correct air bag diagnostic module.
The design of the air bag diagnostic monitor causes the driver's side air bag to deploy when the passenger door IS slammed while the ignition key IS turned to the start position.
Risk and remedy

This IS an a serious ongoing problem. this ford F-150 has dual gas tanks, front and rear. In this truck the front tank IS somehow getting over filled as you drive along and spews fuel. Remove the cap and gas gushes out. A little googling showed that this has happened to a lot of f-150s. having happened to a number of these trucks there must be a recall or at least a technical service bulletin that said what needed to be done to fix it. This must be covered by a safety recall. most recalls seem to be for relatively minor issues. This IS a serious issue. Most recalls don't fix problems that approach the hazard to life and property that would be endangered if the vehicle burst into flame. On monday I noticed a strong gasoline smell coming from the rear tank (dual tank system) of my truck. tuesday after switching gas use from the front to rear when I stopped at a local store, gas was dribbling at a high rate of speed out of the gas cap area from my rear tank. By the time I got home pressure caused the gas to practically explode out of the gas cap by the gallons. The fire department had to be called to ensure that moving the truck did not start a fire and to clean the spill. after researching the issue, it appears that there was a recall through ford for earlier dual tank models for the same issue (nhtsa campaign ID number :93v125000). many other 1994 F-150 owners are having this same issue but a recall has not yet been issued (example: nhtsa complaint # 10533605). I assure you that this was indeed a huge fire hazard! According to your files, in 1993, ford IS well aware of this issue through recall 93v-125. Why haven't other owners with dual tanks been notified? In addition, why hasn't there been another recall for later ford models? *tr

While driving my seat recliner bolts broke from the seat frame causing the seat to recline all the way to the back seat in my extended cab. I was able to not lose control of my truck thankfully however I have it temporarily fixed with a bolt stuck through it to keep it from reclining. upon calling ford they told me that even though I found a recall for this issue; it however did not affect my vin #. I believe this IS a safety issue and should be addressed. upon speaking with ford directly for replacement parts to fix it, I was told the parts/bolts only come in a big quantity pack and would be almost $200 but I would only need one or two bolts to fix it. this IS ridiculous and should be handled by the dealer free of charge and included as a recall due to the safety hazard this could have posed to myself and other citizens driving! *tr

Ea05-005 IS closed with ford?s actions in recalls 05v-017, 05v-388, and 06v-286, recalling approximately 6.7 million vehicles equipped with texas instruments speed control deactivation switches (scds).the brake systems in these recalled vehicles generate a vacuum that can potentially cause the scds to fail and, in certain switch installation orientations, catch fire.ford IS also including the entire population of 1998 explorers.ford has informed odi that testing to determine the cause of failures in the 1998 explorers will continue after this investigation IS closed.odi believes that the vehicles exhibiting the factors causing scds failure described in this report correlate well with the observed failure rates on these vehicles by model and model year.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist in the non-recalled vehicles manufactured with scds that are not included in ford?s recalls.odi will continue to monitor the non-recalled population for incidence of engine compartment fires.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.see attached closing report for details.
