4 recalls name the 1996 GMC Yukon. Newest first.
Certain replacement fuel filters, fram brand name p/n g3727, with date codes x52911 through x60801 sequentially or x600141 and a mexico country or origin marking on the fuel filter housing manufactured from october 18, 2005, through march 21, 2006, sold for use on the vehicles listed above and on certain school buses. (to see the school bus engine sizes…
This condition may cause an inadequate seal at the connection, potentially leading to a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.
Honeywell will notify owners and replace the fuel filters free of charge. the recall began on october 18, 2006. owners may contact fram customer service at 1-800-890-2075 (option 1).
On certain minivans, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles with certain model-engine combinations, the windshield wiper motor may fail due to cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board. the windshield wipers could work intermittently or not at all.
If this were to occur during bad weather, driver visibility would be reduced, which could result in a crash.
Dealers will replace the wiper motor circuit board and cover. owner notification began on june 19, 2003. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, GMC at 1-800-462-8782, or oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537.
Vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, 2 and 4-wheel drive. solder joints near the wiring harness connector can crack causing the windshield wipers to work intermittently.
This condition can result in inoperative wipers, reducing a driver's visibility, and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Dealers will replace the wiper motor circuit board and cover.
These vehicles were assembled with the throttle cable contacting the dash mat which could bind the throttle. This does not meet with the maximum return times required by federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 124, "accelerator control systems."
Consequence of non-compliance: the engine speed may not return to idle increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
Dealers will inspect for adequate throttle cable to dash mat clearance, and if there IS insufficient clearance, cut out a portion of the dash mat to provide proper clearance.
The cable release for the rear seats freeze up and the cables break. This could trap someone in the back if riding in rear, or 3RD row seats. If the car catches on fire and a person who can't climb forward over the seats, it would be devastating on what could happen. I feel as this should be a recall on general motors. Mine broke and I am unable to fold my seats forward. This IS a bad design and the cables rust and snap when bottom of seat IS folded forward, which IS supposed to release this way.

Inside the rear axle assembly, the carrier part # 12471391 completly sheared from the pumpkin. the only thing holding the axle and wheel in place was a c-clamp. I did not notice anything wrong with the suspension other than a pulling to the right which I had taken it to the dealer for previously only to be told that there IS nothing wrong with it. It finally took out the front bearing and started to make a howling noise upon acceleration. I quit driving the vehicle at this point. if I had not quit driving the vehicle the tire and axle would of completely walked away from the vehicle and could of caused great harm to me and my family. the manufactor was not willing to pay to replace this defective part at first. according to the dealer the carrier was a defective part from the manufactor due to a bad casting. the vehicle was just 85 days outside an extended warrenty purchased with the truck. the dealer did buy a new carrier and had it installed at a 50/50 cost on the labor. I had to buy the new bearings, have the axles checked for tru-ness, have the vehicle towed to the dealer, and find alternative transportation for a month at my expense. I work for the manufactor gm in janesville wisconsin where the truck was built and they did back in this model year have a shipment of defective rear axles come into the plant some were fixed because of a howling noise before they left the manufactor, I believe some were not. the rear carrier shows signs of fractures in the metal that have been there a long time and also shows new fractures that are rough and where the part finally let loose and sheared completely. I believe that GMC should of covered this defective part 100%. please call me if you need additional info. I still do have the defective part in my possesion. thank you, [xxx] parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(B)(6).

On 12-27-00 we were driving down the freeway when I noticed flames coming from the readin light/dome light behind the front seat. I blew out the flames, them my husband pushed the light fixture up and blew out the flames still burning inside. The fire damaged the light fixute, the headliner, and my 7-month-old son's carseat (which he was in at the time). on 12-29-00, my husband took the yukon to tri-valley GMC. he spoke with the service directore, patrick madrazo, and showed him the damages. mr. Madrazo said he had to speak with his area service manager, wendell weigel. on 1-8-01, mr madrazo called to say that mr. Weigel determined that the fire was caused by the light being left on too long. my husband had told mr. Madrazo on 12-29-00 and again on 1-8-01 that the light was not on, but he said that GMC was not responsible for the damages. we are sure the light was not on because that light was not even working. on 2-2-98, we took the yukon to herrera GMC (same dealership, different name and location) because that reading light would stop working when moved in the socket. they looked at the yukon and "found the white wire feeding power to the reading light was not making contact at all times." they "removed the light contact and stripped the wire back and reinstalled." the light worked for about a year, then stopped working altogether. we did not take it back for repair because the yukon was out of warranty. on 1-8-01, my husband contacted gm. he explained the situation. on 1-11-01, maja pruden (customer relationship manager) called. I explained the entire situation. she asked if the light was on, and I said no. she wanted me to take the yukon to another dealership to be looked at. I asked if all the dealerships in the area would have the same area service manager, because if so, that would not help. on 1-16-01, ms. Pruden called to say that since there was no one else who could look at it, that gm would have to go with mr. Weigel's determination

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
As a result of this, and the precedinginvestigation, rq99-003, gm has expanded the population of safety recall 98v-150 (replacement of the windshield wiper control module) to include an additional 1.77 million vehicles.included are various 1994-1997 my M/L vans, s/t trucks and suvs, & c/k trucks and suvs.see attached technical report for details.
Odi has received one (1) complaint alleging that the 2ND row passenger-side seat belt release buckle anchor detached from seat frame during a side impact crash.during the crash, the occupant was thrown from his seat, partially ejected through the rear quarter window of the vehicle.occupant sustained injury.gm has subsequently changed seat belt anchoring design in my 2000. Odi has completed a preliminary investigation and has determined that further information IS needed to determine whether a safety defect exists.
There is no summary currently available
Based on the reports received by odi from consumers, failure of the headlight electrical circuit may occur in the subject vehicles, and may result from repeated adjustment ofthe tilt steering wheel in the subject vehicles.repeated adjustment of the steering wheel position may strain the wiring in the headlight circuit to the point of failure where they are attached to the multi-function switch, resulting in the unanticipated loss of headlights while the vehicle IS in motion.odi has concerns regarding the high rate of warranty repairs for problems potentially associated with the alleged defect in the subject vehicles, with the recognition the each incident of headlight failure represents a condition of vehicle disablement.in addition, the manufacturer's evaluation of the alleged defect has not been received, and this office has interest in the details of the methodologies and results of that assessment.
Odi has received 21 complaints where owners allege that the standard gm factory supplied ac delco battery case failed, resulting in the leakage of sulfuric acid.of the 21 complaint vehicles, six suburban, three tahoes, and one yukon owner(s) complained about a loss of brake fluid from deterioration of the right frontbrake line as a result of sulfuric acid contamination.the remaining 11 complaints pertain primarily to sulfuric acid leakage from the battery case.at least one complainant stated that the replacement battery also failed.several of the complainants note that the leaking acid had come in contact with a wire harness at the frame in the vicinity of the steel brake line.a field inspection by odi indicates that the described harness IS the ABS connection to the right front wheel speed sensor.prior to the battery case failure, there IS usually no warning (short of an underhood inspection), and the ensuring damage (sulfuric acid contamination) IS progressive.of the known battery failures, there may be a temperature correlation, as 60% of the owner complaints came from four states; california, florida, georgia and texas.there IS also a product improvement program and engineering change notice to add 1% silver to the battery's positive side terminall, with the earliest implementation date for this being feb 2, 1998.the effect of this design change IS as yet unknown; further review IS warranted.an ea IS being opened to gather further appropriate information, clarify any defect trends, and to assess the safety implications and risks concerning these failures.
