Dealers will replace the seat track for the second row right hand side captain's chair, which includes the easy entry and exit latch mechanism.
TL* the contact owns a 1999 nissan quest. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, the headlights failed. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
The door latch to the back side of the drivers side sliding door came off and now the door will not latch. This happened while car was stopped. *tr
Nissan quest 1999. Cruise control malfunction causing the vehicle to gain speed and get out of control. Stopping the vehicle becomes very difficult. *tr
Nissan quest 1999. Gas pedal IS blocking and requires revere strength to be pushed. This happens several times during the day. Once the pedal IS pushed hard the vehicle suddenly thrusts, causing possible damage to the engine and transmission. This also causes the vehicle to suddenly gain much speed and requires extra control by the driver. I am seeing many complaints on this website regarding the same issue (referd to as 'gas pedal sticking'). *tr
Nissan quest 1999 started having severe engine problems as 50,000 miles and just 5 years of use. The vehicle IS similar to ford windstar and mercury villages and was manufactured in one of their plants. Ford has issued many recalls to address these issues. Nissan IS has denied any problems with the vehicles. *tr
1999 nissan quest started rusting severely after only 30,000 miles and 4 years of use. *tr

Passenger in 1999 nissan quest van. At 40mph, a car cut us off resulting in head on collision. Airbags on both driver and passenger side did not deploy. *tr
My wife was driving our 1999 nissan quest on the interstate the first time the driver front brake locked up. She drove the vehicle to stones river nissan of murfreesboro, tn where they replaced the brake calipers, hoses, rotors, and pads. The brake pads wore out after only 8K miles. Took the vehicle to a different shop to have a tire repaired and the pads replaced and the driver's front locked up again on the technician while road testing his repair. This shop insisted on replacing the driver front brake hose despite knowing it was relatively new. This did not work & they replaced the brake caliper (again) and gave up after it locked up yet again. They towed it to sr nissan, who diagnosed a bad master cylinder & replaced it. Driver front brake still locked up at the shop, now diagnosing bad ABS actuator they say was caused by the seals inside the mc deteriorating. My opinion IS that this IS a design defect, if particulates from a mc can float and clog an ABS actuator to the point that lockup of an individual brake occurs. ABS IS supposed to prevent lockup, not cause it. The brakes are actually ford design and implementation. I know someone who also had a ford explorer and the passenger front brake locked up on her intermittently like my wife's has. The ABS actuator IS not available new anymore, my only recourse IS to install a junk part which IS most likely defective. I think both companies need to be investigated and I think nissan should have to find a new part and pay for installation costs. *Tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 nissan quest. while driving 70 mph, the front driver's side brakes locked up. the contact had a difficult time controlling the vehicle, but managed to drive to the dealer. the dealer stated that the brake hose was the cause of the failure and the braking components overheated. the dealer suggested that the rotors, pads, caliper, and hose on both sides of the vehicle be replaced. the repairs were made, but the failure recurred 8,000 miles later. he took the vehicle to a repair shop and they replaced the pads and turned the rotors. the mechanic test drove the vehicle and the driver's side brakes locked up again. the dealer replaced all the components again and recharged the contact over $300. the dealer currently states that the ABS actuator needs to be replaced. the failure mileage was 108,000.
Reasonably new tires blew out on interstate 75 causing accident, nearly fatal. luckily no other vehicles involved although vehicle transverse three lanes of traffic to get to the median and ended up facing oncoming traffic.. extensive damage to the vehicle but no injuries. Obviously defective tires. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 nissan quest. While driving approximately 15 mph, the engine shut off. The contact was able to restart the vehicle; however, it shut off again and was towed to a mechanic. Twenty minutes after the engine shut off the check engine light illuminated. Four mechanics have diagnosed the failure and stated that the distributor cap was blown and caused by the ignition. The vehicle was purchased with a black box on the right side under the steering wheel. The black box allowed the dealer to shut the engine off if the payments were not made. A mechanic also stated that the black box should be checked and could also have caused the failure. The dealers mechanic quoted her $1,000 to replace the distributor cap and ordered the part for a higher price than quoted without her approval. The failure and current mileages were 155,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 1999 nissan quest. the vehicle has cooper trendsetter SE, size p205/75r15 tires. the contact stated that she saw a defective trend in several cooper tires that she purchased. she bought four tires initially in august of 2006. in november of 2006, the contact returned one tire because it was defective. on december 23, 2007, the tires experienced tread separation while driving 55 mph. both passenger side tires separated. the contact purchased new tires. the dealer and manufacturer have not been notified. the vin was invalid. the purchase date, engine size, and powertrain were unknown. the current mileage was 174,500 and failure mileage was 159,328.
In may 1999, nissan corp sold me defective nissan quest. every 2-3 years this vehicle develops excessive carbonous deposits in the part of the engine called the throttle-body assembly. These deposits cause the accelerator pedal to require increased effort to push the pedal accelerator down (sticky pedal). Being the only owner of this vehicle, I already had to clean the throttle-body 3 times. This defect was recognized and settled by nissan corp in class action in 2003, please see the copy of the first page of settlement letter enclosed. My dealership, rothrock, in allentown pa cleaned the throttle for the last, 3RD time in december 2003 at no charge, please see the copy of invoice enclosed. The throttle needs to be cleaned again. My latest discussion with nissan rep, erica, 1-800-647-7261 ext 57741, file n 5812745 was on 8/10/07. Nissan refuses to clean at nissan's expense explaining that a diagnosis must be performed first for $70.00 per hour. I consider this nissan?s offer as a deceptive way to avoid the responsibility to fix the nissan's defect at no charge to me. *tr
Parked my quest at work, after work tried to start my van. Alarm activated without even being set in the first place. Can not turn the alarm off and it will not let me start my van. Now I am walking around. *tr
The gas pedal on my 1999 nissan quest sticks quite often, such that you must jam your foot onto the pedal to depress it. This IS a dangerous situation as when you do jam the pedal the car must accelerate quickly into traffic. My mechanic looked at the pedal and could not find any problem with it, since it wouldn't stick when he was testing it. However, it does get stuck very often. I've seen postings on the web from others who also state the same problem with this vehicle. I would like to join the growing list of people complaining about this trouble in case there IS a major issue (i.e., deaths on the roadway) resulting which causes the vehicle to be recalled.* jb
Gas pedal sticks.. approximately 3 years ago we had this problem fixed at the dealership. Not long after that we received a notice in the mail telling us if we had problems with the gas pedal sticking and had paid to have this repaired that we would be due a refund.. We filled out the required paperwork and have never heard back from nissan.. I had forgotten about this until now.... We are having the same problem again, with the gas pedal sticking...........please advise as to what can be done to correct this oversight....and continued problem. *jb
Driver side sliding door handle broke off when attempting to open this door. the door could no longer be opened from exterior. operated intermittently from inside afterwards. clearly a safety hazard during emergencies as passengers could not exit vehicle via this door any longer. *Jb
Gas pedal sticks. *jb
First time was done and corrected on 3/25/03 $176.00 vehicle speed control, increased accelerator pedal resistance due to an accumulation of throttle-chamber deposit. Second time was done 2/11/06 $139.99 but not corrected. Suggested to change the throttle with cost of $860.00. *Jb
Dt*: the contact stated the accelerator pedal sticks. excessive pressure must be applied to make the vehicle accelerate. the dealership cleaned the throttle a year and a half ago, but the problem returned.
Dt*: the contact stated the throttle body sticks. the vehicle was taken to the local dealership twice prior for cleaning; however the throttle body IS sticking again. according to contact accelerator pedal continued to stick while in traffic . She was scared because her grand children were in vehicle. *ak
Consumer child seat does not always lock into place. *Ts the consumer stated a recall had been issued regarding this issue, however she was told by customer service her vehicle identification number was not included, but when she did her own research, her vehicle identification number was apart of the recall. *Jb
Dt: the contact owns a 1999 nissan quest. The contact states that on saturday 10, 2005 while driving his vehicle caught on fire. It looked as if it started from the coolant fan. The damage $500-1000. The contact's wife smelled smoke and drove to the nearest parking lot and it caught on fire. The vehicle was not driving unusual before this happened. The cooling system did not have a leak, but the fan melted because that was where the fire started. He was unsure of why the fan caught on fire, but the contact believed it was an electrical fire. He contacted the police and the fire departments. The dealership was not contacted because the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic. He contacted the insurance company, and because he only had liability nothing was covered. *Ak *nm

NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
Nissan and ford found that the original equipment headlight stainless steel bulb terminals may over time cause elevated contact resistance and overheat the electrical connector housing.this can result in a headlight flickering, bulb outage and heat deformation to the headlight connector.in april 1999, the supplier of the headlight for nissan and ford changed to a bulb using the stainless steel terminals that did not meet original specifications.on july 17, 2000, the supplier began using a bulb meeting the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.this problem can affect independently either headlight but does not cause simultaneous failure of both headlights. The problem also does not affect front parking lamps.as a result, the complaints typical report single failure of one headlight.there are no crashes or loss of vehicle control reported.a safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.
