In August 2025 I received emails regarding 3 recall alerts specific to my vin and I took screenshots of them that have the date and my vin along with the 4 recalls. They are 20S49, 21S02, and 20C19 and 25S72. I immediately called Ricart Ford to get this issue resolved. They placed me on hold, and the recalls were removed from my vin. These repairs have never been completed nor were they ever fixed. The Transmission on this vehicle is terrible, and they know it, but my guess is it would cost Ford too much many to repair all of these vehicles. I do have proof of these previous recalls and these are unresolved issues and a hazard. If Ford refuses to fix the transmission and rear drive axle I will obtain legal counsel as this is dangerous. I have also had this vehicle in for another repair that was included in these recalls. Charged $2500 told the dealership the car runs the same and they refused to return the calls.
The engine stalled and started smoking and has no lights to warn me of anything wrong. I was in the middle of a busy street. I had to tow it to the dealership I bought it from and they said the coolant was empty but there were no leaks and no warnings it was low. They said it was coolant intrusion. They said a egr valve and cooler were the problem part it was not covered under warranty. I had to pay 1265 to get it fixed. It's a known issue that should he a recall it's a part that causes safety issues as well as a newer car to be undrivable if not careful. No warning lights or anything is bs. I want this addressed as soon as possible. I could have been rear ended easily. Or my car broke down that I just paid 23000 for supposed to be a good working car. Seems like they did it on purpose.
My transmission needs replacing. My car is jerky when it shifts, does not accelerate smoothly, and puts me in danger on the highway/freeway when trying to accelerate as sometimes it won’t and stalls for a moment before getting going. There are currently 100 on back order which clearly means there is an issue with this specific transmission and I’m not the only person with this problem. The car is only six years old and this should not be happening to a vehicle that is otherwise well maintained.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle hesitated and stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the diagnosis determined that the torque converter required replacement. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 107,000.
Vehicle shudders and is sluggish. Dealer says torque converter needs replaced for $4700. This could leave me stranded on a highway or neighborhood. There are no warnings on my vehicle. Seems to be a very common problem in this vehicle. Vehicle has not been repaired yet due to cost. Parts are hard to get.
I own a 2020 Ford Edge ST-Line AWD with approximately 40,000 miles I am reporting a safety concern involving the Rear Drive Unit (RDU). My vehicle has developed a noticeable rumbling/binding sensation from the rear of the vehicle when making left or right turns, particularly at low speeds and during tight turns. I am concerned this may be related to Ford Safety Recall 21S02 (NHTSA Recall 21V-011), which involves the RDU and the possibility of insufficient lubricating oil that can cause the RDU to seize, potentially resulting in loss of mobility and loss of vehicle control. I brought this concern to a Ford dealership and was told that my VIN does not qualify for the recall. However, the symptoms I am experiencing are consistent with the RDU problem described in the recall. I am requesting that NHTSA review this situation and determine whether my vehicle should be included in the recall or whether Ford should be required to address this safety-related RDU failure. The vehicle has only approximately 40,000 miles. I am concerned about continuing to drive it if the RDU could potentially seize or cause a loss of vehicle control. I believe this issue warrants investigation because of the safety implications and the similarity between my symptoms and the defect described in Recall 21S02.
The EGR cooler failed (TSB 20-2234) in my 2020 Ford Edge ST line on 9/26/26. I started my car and drove down my street and the car began smoking white/gray burning odor from exhausts with a sudden loss of power while driving on a public street. Leading up to this incident and during, no warning engine inicator lights or ANY notifications appeared. Temperature gauge remained at it's normal operating temp, dead center. The tow and independent mechanic confirmed there was no triggering of service lights/overheating warning. The mechanic noticed the loss of antifreeze without seeing a leak. He rulled out a cracked cylinder head and began further diagnostics. It threw a P0301 code as well as a mis-fire code on cyclinder #1. Also a code to cylinder#3. The mechanic's diagnosis was that was this was all a direct result due to the faulty Ford EGR Cooler and explained there was an TSB 20-2234 bulletin. Ford has explicitly acknowledged this engineering defect design flaw. I then found that the NHTSA has an active and elevated investigagion into this massive problem that caused my SUV to become non-drivable, needing a complete new engine-DP 26008. (SUV at 100K like other's) I have all service records as proof on the vehicle as well as the mechanics photos/paperwork. He found the coolant was leaking directly into exhaust reccirulation tracks and into the cylinders now needing new engine. This engine failure caused a sudden loss of power, steering/brakes, no sensors and managed to get to a safe area. I could have caused a caatastrophic crash or injury to other's/myself. I contacted Ford, opened a case number but they are denying any knowledge of the TSB or assistance. I have no vehicle, and out an 8k engine that was due to the negligence of this faulty part. I had it towed to independent mechanic and now will be towing it to the Ford dealership for further escalation as this new growing investigation with the NHTSA. There were NO warning signs nor sensors. It was very scary.
The EGR cooler failed on my 2020 Ford Edge ST Line. On 9/26/26, I started my car and it began smoking white/gray from exhausts and burning odor. Leading up to this incident and during, there was no warning indicators or messages regarding the engine that appearerd. The temperature gauge remained at it's normal operating temperature, dead center. \n\nI had the car towed to a local mechanic. They ran diagnostic & codes on the vehicle and threw a P0301code. The mechanic noticed the loss of antifreeze without seeing a leak, smoke was coming from the car and the car had no \"service engine\" lights appear. He ruled out a cracked cylinder head and began further diagnostics on the EGR cooler. He found the coolant was leaking directly into the exhaust recirculation tracks and straight into cylinder #1. He explained due to Ford's faulty EGR cooler that cracked, draining all the antifreeze directly inside cylinder #1 without triggering a service light or overheating warning. I was told my vehicle would not be driveable and need a complete new engine or replacement. The mechanic notified me that there was a TSB (technical service bulliten) labeled \"TSB 20-2234\" where Ford has explicitly acknowledged this engineering defect in the 2019-2020 design flaw. The mechanic's diagnosis states that the engine failure was entirely a consequential result of the EGR defect, with a vehicle with regular service history.\n\nMy safety was at major risk, as well as the safety of other's. This engine failure includes sudden power loss, loss of steering/brakes, loss of sensors and any ability to handle the car. I would have instantly come to a stop, easily leading to a catastrophic crash or injury to myself/other's.\n\nI contacted Ford, opened a case # and was denied any assistance. I have no vehicle and out 7K engine that was due to the negligence of this faulty part. It is being towed, at my expense to the Ford dealership for further escalation as there is a new defect investigation with the
hard shifting of the transmission causes sudden acceleration interruption. the brief delay is concerning while entering traffic.
I have a 2020 Ford Edge Titanium. Only six years old. It has never been wrecked, flooded or had anything else happen to it. I learned today that it needs a completely new transmission due to a torque converter failure and comes at a cost that is higher than the car is now worth. This is unacceptable in a car this age.
Vehicle shutters between 0-40 mph when shifting
Bought car used 4 months ago from Peoria Ford, Glendale. Vehicle overheated on freeway, added coolant- lost all coolant 10 minutes later and white smoke came from exhaust. Ford diagnosed EGR cooler failure, replacement and noted CV joint boot leaking and needed replaced- resulting g on $3200 fix with zero assistance from Dealership or Ford. This issue didn’t happen suddenly after 4 months & we believe it was existing prior to the purchase. Read reports of cooler, coolant/ engine issue on 2020 ford edge. These models should be recalled for fix as my daughter was stranded on the freeway at night - safety issue.”
I just bought this vehicle with a broken powertrain, torque converter, and warped rotors. These cars are mechanics special that should only be $2,000. Since it's a 2020 it is being sold for $18,800. It can be repossessed for a crap shoot car. Before this I bought a 2016 Buick Enclave with also a broken torque converter issues. The engineers in car industry have failed. I would rather buy an older pre 2015 mechanics special for $1,200-$2,400, NOT $12,000-$18,800 for a POS drivetrain and transmission. A recall needs to be mandated for all these cars. Stiffing the consumer is unethical. With how our government and economy has been, we have had enough with being stuck with inadequacies.
Shuttering/Jerking at lower speeds
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving 5 MPH and making a right turn after stopping, the rear differential made an abnormal grinding sound and the vehicle shuddered. The contact stated that the failure occurred while driving at low speeds and turning. The dealer was notified of the failure and scheduled an appointment for a diagnostic test. The contact associated the failure with Technical Service Bulletin: 26-2328 (Chatter/Shudder During Low Speed Turning Events) and NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V011000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle started jerking forward and shuddering. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with torque converter failure. The failure mileage was 104,458.
My 2020 Ford Edge Titanium was shuddering between 10 - 40 mph. I took my car to a Ford dealership to diagnose the problem. They said it's the torque converter and they needed to replace the transmission. It would be a rebuild/repair at a cost of 8,991.00. This car has only 49,500 miles and points to a manufacturing defect NOT standard wear and tear. Ford knew of this issue regarding thus 8-speed transmission.
The vehicle has been shuddering/jerking when accelerating. This problem is present at highway speeds, as well as lower speeds. A Ford Service Center on 8-28-26 has diagnosed it as a failing torque converter. The safety or both me and others is at risk if this part fails while driving. It is also dangerous, because when accelerating in rainy conditions the car does not maintain good traction while it's shuddering/jerking. Yes, this is available for inspection upon request.
I bought my Edge new in 2020. 3 years into owning the car had the transmission replaced on 8/23 due to mechanical/component failures. This was replaced under the original warranty of the car. The new transmission carried a 2 year unlimited warranty. I started having trouble again with the transmission August 1, 2026. 3 years after the new transmission. Took it to the Ford dealer to have them diagnose the problem. They could not pinpoint the exact issue so I was given a choice of replacing the valve body for $2,000. Not guaranteed to fix the problem. Or have them break the transmission down for $2100 and diagnose the problem. But this did not included reassembly. So I opted to get a 2nd opinion. Took my Edge to Cotterman in Louisville, KY and had them run a diagnoses. They confirmed that I had internal component failures and that the transmission needed to be replaced. I was quoted $8,198. The car books for $4,000. This vehicle is available for inspection. The problem has been confirmed by a dealer and another servicer. My vehicle never gave a transmission code. No warnings. It had to be scanned to find those codes. It did however give a no park available code on August 1st when I pulled in my driveway when I tried to put it in park. It shuddered and died when it gave this code. I don't understand why a 2020 vehicle needs a third transmission. Neither transmission have lasted to a 100,000 miles. I have found numerous articles and this is apparently a well known issue with these transmissions. With my experience the transmissions appear to have a 3 year life - no more.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle shuddered, and there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle, and the vehicle failed to exceed 30 MPH while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent at first and then became a consistent failure. No warning lights were illuminated. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the torque converter and the rear differential needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

Transmission failure. No warning lights or messages.
About a month ago, July 2026, i started to notice shaking bumping when car shifted out of first gear. Brought to local garage and they said needs new transmission.
Car stutters, shudders, and hesitates from stopped position. Vehicle does not excelerate smoothly. Safety concern when pulling out into traffic, crossing intersection, or leaving stop. Paducah Ford said it is torque converter and independent mechanic says that as well. Ford issued tech service information concerning shudder for Ford Edge 8F35 transmission and provides a repair procedure for torque converter and output planetary assembly. I am concerned because it may represent a recurring safety related defect affecting other Ford Edge vehicles
Our 2020 Ford Edge SEL has experienced ongoing shuddering and hesitation while driving. The Ford dealership inspected the vehicle and diagnosed the torque converter as the likely cause, recommending approximately $4,500 in repairs. The torque converter has not been replaced and is available for inspection. We obtained a second opinion from an independent repair shop, which replaced the EGR sensors and updated them in an attempt to resolve the issue. The problem has created a safety concern because the vehicle does not always accelerate or operate normally while driving. The exact cause remains UNKNOWN, and the issue has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives.
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
On September 23, 2020, Ford Motor Company (Ford) filed a noncompliance recall report under 49 CFR Part 573 (NHTSA Recall No. 20V-575), recalling 620,246 Model Year (MY) 2020 Ford F-150, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, Explorer, Mustang, Transit, Expedition, Escape, Ranger and Edge, and Lincoln Nautilus and Corsair vehicles for a noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111, Rear Visibility. Ford's recall described the noncompliance as insufficient electrical conductivity within the printed circuit board (PCB) internal to the camera leading to intermittent rearview camera operation. The supplier of the cameras was Magna Electronics.According to Ford's chronology in the Part 573, during the period February-April 2020, Ford identified and monitored warranty claims pertaining to intermittent or inoperative rearview cameras. Ford reviewed supplier product changes, focusing on changes introduced by the supplier in the October-November 2019 time frame. The Part 573 stated that the issue was brought to Ford's Critical Concerns Review Group (CCRG) for review on May 12, 2020.On July 7, 2020, NHTSA's Vehicle Research and Testing Center (VRTC) informed the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) of a trend of MY 2020 Escape vehicles with rearview camera malfunctions. ODI contacted Ford the next day, providing five Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging inoperative rearview cameras. On July 15, 2020, Ford met with NHTSA to discuss the rearview camera issue. In a subsequent August 24, 2020 meeting, ODI and NHTSA's Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance (OVSC) met with Ford to discuss the recall status and additional VOQs. Ford presented rate and scope data for many of its MY 2020 products during the August 2020 meeting indicating high failure rates for certain models. This RQ is being opened to investigate both the timeliness and scope of Ford's rearview camera recall (20V-575), and Ford's compliance with reporting requirements. The subject reports referenced in the opening resume are identified by the following ODI reference numbers which can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov: 11349813, 11344126, 11342696, 11341486, 11340254, 11337274, 11331444, 11330875, 11329235, 11316960, 11343521, 11341884, 11337226, 11344018, and 11339573.
