TL* the contact owns a 2000 ford F-250 super duty. While driving 40 mph, the contact heard an abnormal thumping noise and noticed that the fuel tank had detached and was dragging on the road. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The fire and police departments were on the scene. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 165,000. *Bf the rear strap securing the gas tank failed. *Tr
Ford and "takata recall" the safety belts in the back outside as well as the middle seat belt does not lock at all, the muffler on the bottom back underneath the car IS hanging enouph to strap it to car. The front bumper IS cracked and held together by plastic tywraps. The light in the dash light IS out and doesn't light up at all besides a person with the airbag diploid showing. Back seat door lock switch doesn't work and the back door right side window doesn't go up and down. The back seat little window IS broken out. The back brake light doesn't work. The heating and cooling system doesn't come on at all including defrosters. The wind shield IS held on from what looks like foam glue. The underside of the vehicle IS rusted and the front side wheel and brake are rusted, as well as the front side back weal baring and break, drivers side back rear wheel barring and break are rusted. The horn does not work at all and the air bag light IS on. The fan doesn't blow at all, the car just starts making loud noises, and the theft light seams to be on in the middle of the front dash bord. The reason IS due to previouse owner as the car was like this before I baught the vehicle so the reason for the condition IS due to unknown reason of previouse owner not taking care of it. I perchased the vehicle at britney vanstratens home 122 northgate eastates new london, wi, 54961 on 6/5/2018.
The tow hooks on the front bumper of a 2000 ford F250 super duty pierced the door panel of a passenger sedan during a t-bone impact at a stoplight, causing massive puncture wounds to the driver of the sedan, which resulted in her death.
I just recently bought this car last month. It was advertised with 97,000 miles. I was shown a carfax that showed 97,000 miles. just found out the cluster was swapped out before I purchased the vehicle. the actual mileage with the dmv IS about 382,000 miles. I need to take legal action.
Vehicle caught fire while we were away at a meeting. vehicle was started, moved out of the way of another car and then shut off and locked. also burned down family weekend cabin. after research, found open recall that can cause this exact issue. ford recall for texas instruments speed/cruise control deactivation switch. the incident took place in colmesneil, tx on 2/18/2017 between 1:50 pm and 3:00 pm. fire completely destroyed the cabin and the truck. well pump house was destroyed, as well as an aluminum boat that was parked close by. very rural area. volunteer fire dept responded. No investigation of any kind at this point.
TL* the contact owns a 2000 ford F-250 sd. While driving approximately 55 mph, a loud noise was heard under the hood. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the spark plug thread in the engine head failed and caused the spark plug to separate from the engine. The contact indicated that the failure occurred on three separate occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.
The driver side front tire spontaneously blew while driving in normal conditions on the highway, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times. The tire had been regularly maintained and had more than adequate tread.
Spark plug blew out of motor I am the original owner of my truck. I have always had the ford dealership perform the tune-ups because I am aware of the ongoing problems with the ford 5.4 engine and spark plugs. I had my daughter in the truck with me at the time of the spark plug coming out and catching on fire. This IS completely un-acceptable, ford motor company obviously knows about the problem. But nothing has been done to correct the problem. I am extremely upset about the dangerous situation this put me and my family in. There IS nothing ford could ever do to help "make things right" if something were to happen to my family. I sure hope that ford can be responsible enough to correct this problem before someone gets hurt. *tr
Pulling out of a parking lot and the strap that holds the gas tank broke (rusted through) and the gas tank fell onto the road surface. The tank was almost full at the time of the incident. *tr
I recently purchased a used F-250. While trying to park it in a parking lot, I was traveling at about 1 mph. While stopped or barely moving, the steering wheel IS impossible to turn. It makes parking extremely difficult while in close proximity to other vehicles, and/or people. This IS a potential safety issue, making an accident extremely likely. The truck has the 7.3L power stroke diesel. *tr
I was just seconds away from getting on the highway when the steering went completely out!! It happened in the following way. After making a left turn, fortunately I looked down and noticed the steering wheel was about 90 degrees off from center. With my mechanical background I knew that this was serious and pulled off the road. I checked the tie rods, suspension, tires looking for anything obvious and didn't find anything. Got back in the truck to test the steering wheel and as I turned the wheel there was a slight resistance then pop and the wheel spun freely. Opened the hood and the shaft was connected to the box spinning freely. I was seconds away from getting on the highway!
Bought the truck 2000 ford F250 used in 2006 and the seat belt retractor would not retract the belt when not in use. The belt would get caught in the door when it was closed. I would have to open the door to get the seat belt loose so it could be used. This problem makes using the seat belt a major problem each time I get into the truck. I bought a new belt and retractor from ford for about $120 and it worked for about a month and it became the same as the old seat belt. This IS a problem on all 2000 model trucks and ford will not correct the problem. This problem causes you not to want to use the seat belt because of how much trouble it IS to be used. *tr
Date: september 18, 2011 driving south on the 605 freeway rear left tire blew out the tread belt portion of the tire tore of and caused body and paint damage to the rear fender. I can provide pictures of the tire and body damage it caused. I received a recall notice and I mailed the documents requested. bf goodrich notified me that my tires are out of warranty due to age and my tires are not part of the recall notice. I told the person on the phone the incident IS the same as noted "tire tread separation" as on the recall notice. I only had approximately 10,000 miles on the tires when it happened. *tr
I observe the voluntary recall issues by goodyear (nhtsa 12t0030000) and since I own a 4 wheel set of those tires on my ford F-250 super duty, I noticed that my size wasn't listed. I have had trouble with my set of silent armor tires in that they can not be balanced as they should be and very pronounced cracks have appeared on the side walls close to the tread line. I limit my speed to no more than 50mph. My tires were purchased in september, 2009 and if I could crawl under my truck in search of the production dates, I'm sure they would be in or close to the listed production dates. the problem appears to be with the silent armor production technology and should not be recalled in such a narrow date range or size range. please expand the recall to all sizes and a broader production date range. *tr
Tire separated like a retread and cause over $3500 damage to the bed of the pickup on the driver's side. *tr
Approximately 1 hour after being parked in parking stall at my residence, neighbors noticed fire coming from the hood and underneath the vehicle (the fire originated on the driver's side).they attempted to put out the fire and called 911. san jose fire department responded to the call and finished putting out the fire. the vehicle had visible burnt wiring, right side fender damage from heat (inside and outside) and the right driver's side tire sustained damage due to melting debris falling on tire. the fire department took a report of the incident. as I have relayed this event to others, they have mentioned that this IS probably a "recall fire" and that I should report this incident. *tr
The rear brake line failed due to corrosion. the failed brake line allowed the brake fluid to totally drain the reservoir on the master cylinder. the reservoir for the rear brakes IS shared with the front brakes so that the front brakes were no longer able to function as well. the operator then has no brakes at all on the vehicle with the exception of the parking brake. in the case of the first failure, I was able to use the manual transmission to slow the vehicle and then shift into reverse (it has synchros in reverse as well) to stop the vehicle. in the case of the second failure, the vehicle was in my driveway when the failure occurred. even though the brake pedal was only pushed once, the reservoir still completely drained leaving absolutely no brakes. I feel that this brake failure mode does not comply with the intent of what I understand the law to be, that requires a split brake system that enables the operator to stop the vehicle when either front or rear brakes fail. the current brake system does have a split master cylinder but the common reservoir feature prevents the split master cylinder from operating as intended/required.
I was traveling on I-90 in erie,pa and a spark plug blew out of the motor. I lost all power and was nearly hit from behind. the truck IS a ford F-250 with a tritan 5.4 l motor. *tr
I have a 2000 ford F250 3/4 ton 5.4 gas 2 wheel drive long bed extended cab pickup. the truck shakes and cups tires badly at highway speed if weight IS put onto the right front wheel. I have heard of several incidents of the death wobble on the F250 but most were 4X4 trucks. I think that this IS dangerous. my truck only has 60K miles on it. *kb
Was pulling my boat out of the water and when stopping heard a loud bang. Stopped truck and saw fluid leaking on to the ground from just forward of the drivers side rear tire. Found fluid to be brake fluid. Brake steel line that runs down the left frame rail had burst near fuel tank. This area hard to see unless using a mirror and light. the brake line was very corroded and had rusted thru in the area that IS hardest to see. Replaced the steel brake line to repair. I am the original owner of this truck. I have pictures and have the old brake line. *tr
TL* the contact owns a 2000 ford F-250 sd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the brakes unintentionally locked without warning. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road, and remained parked overnight. The following day, the contact started the vehicle and resumed driving with the brakes functioning normally for 15 miles before the failure recurred. One week prior to the failure, all of the rotors and both rear calipers were replaced. In addition to the repair, the front and rear brakes were replaced. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired for the most recent failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the contact was informed that there were no recalls related to the brakes. The approximate failure mileage was 178,000.
Wiring in the steering column has been coming apart and pieces falling out of the column. the cruise control, airbag and horn are all not working as a result of this failure. it IS a flat (ribbon wire) wire that appears to run from the steering wheel through the center of the column. *tr
Noisy front right wheel grinding noise. unsafe to drive, the bearing had approx 3 inches of play and grinding on the rotor. Replaced front hub assembly and bearing and brakes. the vehicle had the identical failure july 2010 on the left front wheel. mechanical failure that could result in death.
Our unattended ford F-250 pickup caught fire in our construction yard. The subsequent fire completely destroyed it and an adjacent vehicle. The vehicle had been parked and not moved for days. I was the last person to drive it and I am not aware of any defects the last time it was driven. Video surveillance did not capture the fire of the first vehicle, however it does provide a time line for the event and subsequent fire of the adjacent vehicle. *Tr
My year 2000 ford F-250 truck burst into flames in my driveway today an hour and a half after I parked it. It's a total loss. *tr
NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened these reviews into vehicles including this one.
In a december 3, 2007 letter, ford advised nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall to replace the cam position sensor (cps) in approximately 1.2 million subject vehicles to address reports of engine stalling.a new design cps with improved performance and durability will be installed as a remedy.owner notifications will begin in december 2007. The subject vehicles are durable, full-sized, medium duty trucks commonly used for commercial purposes, rescue/emergency response, and commercial or recreational towing.cps failure IS comparable to unexpectedly turning the key off since the signal it produces IS vital to the electronic engine control system.cps signal loss terminates fuel injection resulting in an engine stall.once stalled, the engine may restart right away, or may restart after a delay (typically 5 to 10 minutes), or may not restart at all.in addition to exposing the driver and other motorists to crash risk due to loss of motive power or vehicle disablement, engine stalling also effects the power assisted steering and braking. Through consumer interviews, odi determined that cps failures occurred without any form of warning, at any vehicle speed (50% at highway speeds), and under any driving condition, such as accelerating.consumers reported that about a third of the vehicles failed to restart, with another third reporting delayed restarting.half the vehicles that did restart experienced another stall on the same or a subsequent drive cycle (before cps replacement) re-exposing those consumers to the risks associated with a stalling event.in their voq reports, half of the odi complainants described difficulty controlling the vehicle due to lose of power assist systems, especially those who were towing at the time of the incident. The one alleged injury incident occurred in an intersection when a subject vehicle stalled while turning across oncoming lanes of traffic.although unsubstantiated, the complainant alleged an injury to a child occupant during odi's interview.the other crash allegations mostly involved low speed, loss of control incidents often caused by lack of power assist; no injuries are reported in these incidents, and property damage, if any, was minimal.consumers also reported other incidents with significant safety risks, such as disablement in a lane or on a shoulder of a high-speed roadway or interstate, or extended disablement in remote areas during severe weather conditions. The population above IS ford's estimate of the 1.4 million subject vehicles produced that are currently registered.the ford complaint and warranty counts noted above are current as of ford's last submission dated june 21, 2007; they do not include F-450, F-550, or econoline counts as these products were not formally within scope of the investigation when failure information was requested.warranty data analysis indicates that about half the claims involved a stall while driving event ( ford's assessment) and that poor cps durability was a longstanding concern.ford reported that the new cps design should meet or exceed their 10 year, 150K mile life expectancy design requirement.
The cam position sensor (cps) provides a critical signal to the subject vehicle (sv) engine management system, the loss of which results in an engine stall.during pe06-011, ford stated in their response to odi that it IS continuing to investigate allegations of cps related engine stall and further advised that an update will be provided upon completion of the investigation.ford data shows that 20% of the 716,000 svs are equipped with manual transmissions which are capable of back-driving the engine when a stall occurs; power assisted steering and braking are not lost during engine back-drive.ford data also indicates that back-drive occurs in automatic transmission vehicles above certain road speeds.the manufacturer reports noted reference 755 unique vehicles; 2 are duplicative of odi reports.in its review of customer and field reports, ford identified some 800 reports alleging one or more engine stalls potentially related to a cps failure in these 755 vehicles (ford?s ?a? Category reports).odi has not completed its review of these or other ford reports, nor has it confirmed this count.all but one of the 9 crash allegations appear to be minor in nature although odi IS still investigating these crash/injury allegations and whether or not they involve a cps failure.based on early assessment of the approximately 166,000 subject vehicle warranty claims ford paid, there appears to be variability in claim rates between certain sv production periods; an explanation for this has not been identified.ford reviewed a sample of the warranty claims and indicated that about half may involve a stall due to cps failure; odi has yet to confirm this assessment.the investigation IS therefore upgraded to engineering analysis ea06-012 so that odi can continue to investigate the scope, frequency and consequences of cps related engine stalling.
On september 6, 2005, odi received a petition requesting that the agency investigate allegations of engine spark plug ejection in certain model year 1997 through 2004 ford vehicles with triton V-8 and V-10 engines.odi received a total of 474 non-duplicative complaints on the subject vehicles where the complainant, or the dealer repairing the vehicle, reported that a spark plug detached from the cylinder and/or ejected from the engine.as of december 8, 2005, odi IS not aware of any allegations where the alleged defect resulted in a loss of vehicle control, a crash, an injury, or a fatality in any of the 10,319,810 subject vehicles.in addition, odi IS aware of only two incidents where the vehicle stalled without restart.information contained in the odi consumer complaints and obtained from 72 telephone interviews with complainants showed the following:(1) 99% of the complaints were on my 1997 to 2002 subject vehicles.(2) most the complainants reported hearing a loud pop while driving or upon starting up the vehicle followed by a loud, repetitive clicking or popping sound.(3) many of the complainants reported that the popping sound was accompanied by some loss of vehicle power; however, in 99% of the incidents reported, the vehicle did not stall.in the very few incidents where the vehicle did stall, most vehicles could be restarted.(4) only a small percentage of the complainants cited that they smelled gas or a slight burning smell when the incident occurred.(5) in all but a very few incidents, vehicle damage was limited to the engine.in one incident, the complaint reported that the fuel rail was damaged and replaced after one of the spark plugs ejected from the engine; however, the complainant reported that the damage did not result in any type of fuel leak or fire.in another incident, the only incident where a fire was alleged, the complainant reported that no fluid leak was observed, but that a fire resulted after the spark plug had ejected from the engine and he had restarted the vehicle and driven to another location.none of the complainants reported any damage to the vehicle hood.(6) only two complainants reported that they observed what appeared to be some drops of fuel coming from the cylinder where the spark plug had failed or on the spark plug itself; however, each of these complainants reported that there was no smoke or flames as a result of his incident.as the petitioner noted, and odi?s analysis showed, it IS possible for a spark plug to detach from the engine cylinder threads in the subject vehicles.however, odi?s analysis of 474 complaints describing such incidents found only a very few alleged any safety-related consequences.none of these showed any evidence of a serious safety consequence.given the large population and relatively long exposure time of the subject vehicles, the complaint analysis indicates that the risk to motor vehicle safety from the alleged defect IS very low.in view of the foregoing, it IS unlikely that nhtsa would issue an order for the notification and remedy of the alleged defect at the conclusion of the investigation requested in the petition.therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa?s limited resources to best accomplish the agency?s safety mission, the petition IS denied.
Ea05-005 IS closed with ford?s actions in recalls 05v-017, 05v-388, and 06v-286, recalling approximately 6.7 million vehicles equipped with texas instruments speed control deactivation switches (scds).the brake systems in these recalled vehicles generate a vacuum that can potentially cause the scds to fail and, in certain switch installation orientations, catch fire.ford IS also including the entire population of 1998 explorers.ford has informed odi that testing to determine the cause of failures in the 1998 explorers will continue after this investigation IS closed.odi believes that the vehicles exhibiting the factors causing scds failure described in this report correlate well with the observed failure rates on these vehicles by model and model year.the closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist in the non-recalled vehicles manufactured with scds that are not included in ford?s recalls.odi will continue to monitor the non-recalled population for incidence of engine compartment fires.the agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.see attached closing report for details.
This ea was opened based on a response received from ford motor company to an information request (ir) submitted during sq00-018.ford stated in an internal service message that it had changed the steering gear sector shafts and pitman arms installed 1999 model year f-series super duty vehicles on march 22, 1999.ford stated that these design changes were implemented to make improvements in vehicle steering and handling, and that virtually all of the reported fractured sector shafts were the result of extraordinary, possibly multiple, impacts.an engineering analysis closing report IS attached.
