Certain pro-a motors corner lamps, turn signals, and headlights sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles listed above. some combination lamps that are not equipped with amber side reflectors fail to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 108, lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.

Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with cruise control and V6 engines, and built at one of two lines at the kentucky plant. the accelerator cable housing could be deformed at the cruise control actuator-to-throttle body connection. the accelerator inner-cable could wear away and eventually break.

Dealers will replace the accelerator cable. owner notification began february 23, 2001. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

@45,679 miles, the (plastic) driver door handle popped of the car when lifted without thumb just enough to begin to open the door. This was during the beginning of a big snowstorm. Luckily I was not idling the engine while cleaning the windshields or I could have been locked out of the car with the engine running. Now I must drive with 2 keys. The original owner of the vehicle, my mother was XXX when she bought it on 10/31/1999 for $23, 470 with 8 miles on the odometer; salespeople never mentioned the door handles were plastic. The failure was complete fracture all at once, not progressive; I suspect the plastic strain hardened from repetitive stress, making this a design defect rather than material quality. The driver's door latch is a safety issue; now I must struggle to enter the car, and you never know where you might be when you need quick entry, like in a rain. Paid cash w/ trade in for car. Door handle not yet repaired, but claim filed with Toyota Customer Experience Center (ref. # XXX). Request Toyota replace or repair door handle at their expense, preferably with aluminum handle on driver door lest problem recur. Also the car needs an OE solar panel to keep the battery charged for low mileage use. I replaced previous battery with new 7 yr warranty one on 1/22/25 and despite idling to recharge for 1 hr at a time, the battery now remains recurrently low. The vehicle was not sold for a given yearly mileage use, and my mom, now deceased, bought it for reliable safety during retirement & old age as my father died; the vehicle now belongs to our family trust, of which I am trustee. I request Toyota pay for a solar panel to be installed above rear window deck, on rubber tubed bolts spaced above the speakers, to keep battery recharged. Battery charge is obviously a safety issue, and idling is a pollutive, unforeseen expense. Both these issues should likely be recall issues because of the vehicle purchase price involved, as design negligence.

2000 toyota camry caught on fire august 7TH, 2018. I was driving on a city street and my radio kept going on and off while driving, I noticed the check engine light came on so I pulled into a parking lot and parked the car. I turned off the car and started to smell smoke. I opened the hood and the engine compartment was on fire on the right side near the battery. I was able to get a fire extinguisher and put the fire out but I have significant damage. I have not seen a recall on this issue but my car should not start on fire. I submitted a claim to toyota (claim# 180808-000043) asking if there IS a technical bulletin. Toyota sent their inspector and he noted the starter failed to disengage from flywheel causing fire. The starter kept running burning it out and also burning the positive cable to the battery. Toyota did not share a copy of the report with me. The damage was severe enough to write off the car with only 95,000 miles on it. This needs to be investigated. Why would my car starter catch on fire like this?

The hood has been "popping" up when driving... This has happened on numerous occasions. Usually I open the hood and slam it down and its ok for a while lately it happened more times. I took it to the service garage and they said it looked fine.. ( but it could be a cable??) although there IS a safety latch when it "pops" its still very scary when you are driving because you don't know when it will happen. Not sure what maybe the cause of this?

While driving the car at about 40 mph on the road, it suddenly accelerated . I applied the brake and the car kept going at the accelerated speed for about 3/4 mile. It finally slowed enough for me to turn off the road into a housing complex. I then was able to put it in park. The car kept idling at the same rate even while in park position. Smoke started coming from under the hood; therefore, I got out and within 1 minute, it went up in flames. The police & fire truck came and put out the flames. The car IS a total loss.

I was going the speed limit 50mph with my significant other following behind me. a deer jumped onto the road and I swerved the vehicle to avoid hitting the deer. I swerved 3 times before hitting a culvert. upon hitting the culvert, my vehicle flipped and also rolled into the ditch. although I walked away with a few scratches and a bruise on my leg, it could have been a lot worse. two days later, I went to the impound to get my personal belongings out of my vehicle. I realized the air bags did not go off even though there IS plenty of damage done to the vehicle. I have attached photos to support my complaint.

If these contaminants settle and remain on a painted vehicle surface, especially the horizonal areas of the hood, roof, and decklid, significant damage can occur. This damage is the result of actual etching of the paint and appears as pitting or water spots. As acid rain droplets on the vehicle surface evaporate, the concentration strength of the acid increases, causing deeper and more rapid damage. This evaporation and corrosive action also occur more rapidly on dark colored cars as direct sun heat increases. It is the dealers responsibility to protect and maintain the quality of the vehicles paint finish after receipt at the dealership prior to the first sale. In areas known for high frequency and/or concentration of acid rain (see Figure 1), frequent vehicle washing during high heat or humidity periods will minimize the potential for paint damage caused by acid rain. It is further recommended that either reverse osmosis or deionized water be used to prevent water spotting.

The purpose of the wheel film is to shield the disc brake rotor from weather elements and initial rust before the vehicle is delivered to the customer. Moderate damage: usually requires neutralizing, color sanding, and buffing. Severe damage: extending beyond 1/2 mil of clearcoat on a pearl, metallic, or solid color, requires neutralization, sanding, and repainting. In cases where acid rain damage is minor, neutralization and buffing with a liquid-type paint finessing product may provide an adequate repair. Only specially formulated products outlined in this bulletin should be used for that purpose. Unfortunately, other than minor damage, there is no simple method of determining the actual extent (depth) of acid penetration other than color sanding a representative affected area until there is no visible etching or depressions, followed by measuring the amount of paint removed with either a magnetic or digital-type film thickness gauge. The procedures in this bulletin are intended for use by qualified body/paint technicians and should not be attempted by inexperienced personnel. It is the dealers responsibility to protect and maintain the quality of the vehicles paint finish after receipt at the dealership prior to the first sale. Perform frequent vehicle washing, as often as daily, during high heat and humidity periods to minimize the potential for paint damage due to acid rain exposure. This is especially important in geographical areas known for high frequency and concentration of acid rain and industrial fallout.
